Objective:To explore the application effects of the goal-oriented teaching method based on mind mapping in the teaching of stomatology practical courses. Methods:From September 2022 to September 2023, 52 fourth-year students of clinical stomatology at Harbin Medical University were divided into test group and control group for practical teaching, with 26 cases in each group. The test group received goal-oriented teaching based on mind mapping, while the control group received traditional teaching, for 20 class hours in both groups. The two groups were compared in terms of general data, theoretical and practical assessment scores, the score of the self-rating scale of self-directed learning (SRSSDL) and the score of critical thinking disposition inventory-Chinese version (CTDI-CV) before and after training, and student satisfaction with teaching activities. SPSS 25.0 software was used to perform the t-test or χ2 test. Results:After completing the practical training courses, the test group showed significantly higher scores than the control group in multiple-choice questions [(16.85±1.39) vs. (15.33±2.21)], fill-in-the-blank questions [(17.21±1.98) vs. (16.01±2.02)], short answer questions [(17.47±2.27) vs. (15.23±2.45)], case analysis [(34.36±2.79) vs. (32.57±3.02)], and practical assessment [(84.69±4.73) vs. (80.57±4.21)] (all P<0.05). The SRSSDL score and CTDI-CV score were improved in both groups, and were significantly higher in the test group [(215.29±10.42) and (357.49±17.80)] than in the control group [(200.23±11.42) and (342.23±17.26)] (both P<0.05). The students of the test group were significantly more satisfied with teaching activities than those of the control group ( P<0.05). Conclusions:Compared with the traditional teaching method, the goal-oriented teaching method based on mind mapping is more effective in stomatology practical teaching, which can improve students' self-directed learning ability and critical thinking ability, promote their mastery of theoretical knowledge, enhance their clinical practice ability, and increase their satisfaction with teaching activities.

Objective:To evaluate the long-term efficacy of laparoscopic-assisted natural orifice specimen extraction surgery (NOSES) colectomy using Cai tube for treating left-sided colorectal cancer. Methods:This was a randomized controlled trial. Inclusion criteria were as follows: preoperative pathological diagnosis of left-sided colorectal adenocarcinoma (rectal, sigmoid colon, descending colon, or left transverse colon cancer with the caudad margin ≥8 cm from the anal margin); preoperative abdominal and pelvic computed tomography (or magnetic resonance imaging) showing maximum tumor diameter <4.5 cm; and BMI <30 kg/m 2. Patients with synchronous multiple primary cancers or recurrent cancers, a history of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy, preoperative evidence of significant local infiltration, distant metastasis, or complications such as intestinal obstruction and intestinal perforation, or who were not otherwise considered suitable for laparoscopic surgery were excluded. A random number table was used to randomize sequential patients to NOSES surgery using Cai tube (non-assisted incision anal sleeve: patent number ZL201410168748.2) (NOSES group) or traditional laparoscopic-assisted surgery (CLS group). Relevant clinical data of the two groups of patients were analyzed, the main outcomes being disease-free survival, overall survival, overall recurrence rate, and local recurrence rate 5 years after surgery. Results:Patients in both study groups completed the surgery successfully with no requirement for additional surgery. After mean 70 (7–83) months postoperative follow-up, the 5-year overall postoperative survival in the NOSES and CLS groups was 90.0% and 83.3%, respectively ( P=0.455); disease free survival was 90.0% and 83.3%, respectively ( P=0.455); overall recurrence rate 6.6% and 10.0%, respectively ( P=0.625); and local recurrence rate both were 3.3% ( P=0.990), respectively. None of these differences was statistically significant. Conclusions:NOSES and CLS have similar long-term efficacy, and NOSES deserves to be used in clinical practice.

Objective:To investigate the research competence and training needs of young general practitioners (GPs) in Guangdong province. Methods:A questionnaire survey on research competence and training needs was conducted in December 2020 among GPs from one selected economically developed area and one selected less developed area in Guangdong Province. Results:A total of 172 young GPs were included in the study. The survey showed that 75.6% (130/172) and 76.2% (131/172) respondents thought that participation in scientific research and research literacy were important, but only 11.9% (21/172) had participated in research project, among whom 81.0% (17/21) undertook data collection. The basic score of evidence-based medicine was 24.00(21.00, 28.00), and 55.2% respondents (95/172) were able search literature when they encountered problems and 43.7% (77/172) used domestic databases. The self-assessment score of scientific research ability was 14.00(12.00, 17.00), the score of research training needs was 41.00(31.00, 49.50), and the scores of "scientific research topic selection, scientific research design, statistical analysis, organization and implementation, and paper writing" were generally high. There was significant difference in the total scores of the two scales of evidence-based medicine basis and scientific research ability self-assessment among respondents with different educational background ( P<0.05). The basic score of evidence-based medicine of orientation-trained GPs was higher than that of non-orientation-tranined GPs; the average score of research training needs in female respondents was higher than that in males ( P<0.05). Conclusions:The study suggests that young general practitioners have inadequate experience in research participation and organization, and low self-ratings of research competence, but generally high personal efficacy in research. It is recommended that appropriate training content and well-organized intervention should be developed for young GPs.

Objective:To study the clinical efficacy of chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CART) treatment followed by a second allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) in patients with B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) who relapsed following the first HSCT.Methods:Retrospective analysis of the clinical characteristics and prognosis of 41 patients with B-cell ALL who received a second allo-HSCT from October 2015 to June 2020 in Hebei Yanda Lu Daopei Hospital. After the first HSCT, all patients received CD19-CART, or CD22-CART treatment following a relapse of bone marrow morphology or extramedullary leukemia. Results:A total of 41 patients (male, 21; female, 20) were included in this study. The median age at the second HSCT was 16 (3-46) years. There were 31 cases of bone marrow recurrence (75.6%) , 5 cases of extramedullary recurrence (12.2%) , and 5 cases of bone marrow and extramedullary recurrences (12.2%) . After relapse, 35 patients (85.4%) received CD19-CART treatment, 2 patients received CD22-CART treatment (4.9%) , and 4 patients received CD19-CART and CD22-CART treatments (9.8%) . The expected 3-year overall survival (OS) , leukemia-free survival, cumulative relapse incidence, and non-relapse mortality (NRM) of patients after the second HSCT were 48.9% (95% CI 23.0%-70.6%) , 41.8% (95% CI 17.3%-64.9%) , 8.8% (95% CI 2.9%-26.4%) , and 51.1% (95% CI 31.2%-83.6%) , respectively. The 1-year OS of patients who relapsed ≤6 months and >6 months after the first HSCT were 45.0% (95% CI 12.7%-73.5%) and 75.0% (95% CI 51.4% -88.8%) ( P=0.017) , respectively. Conclusion:CART bridging in the second HSCT enables some B-cell ALL patients who relapsed after the first HSCT to achieve long-term survival. However, because of the high NRM, further modifications could help improve the outcome.

International Journal of Oral Science 2020;12(1):30-30
Medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is a serious side effect of bone-modifying agents and inhibits angiogenesis agents. Although the pathogenesis of MRONJ is not entirely clear, multiple factors may be involved in specific microenvironments. The TGF-β1 signalling pathway may have a key role in the development of MRONJ. According to the clinical stage, multiple variables should be considered when selecting the most appropriate treatment. Therefore, the prevention and management of treatment of MRONJ should be conducted in patient-centred multidisciplinary team collaborative networks with oncologists, dentists and dental specialists. This would comprise a closed responsibility treatment loop with all benefits directed to the patient. Thus, in the present review, we aimed to summarise the pathogenesis, risk factors, imaging features, clinical staging, therapeutic methods, prevention and treatment strategies associated with MRONJ, which may provide a reference that can inform preventive strategies and improve the quality of life for patients in the future.
