SARS-CoV-2 may have potential effects on the male reproductive system. Evidence has shown that SARS-CoV-2 is not likely to transmit through sexual intercouse. However, male infected with SARS-CoV-2 may experience sexual dysfunction, semen quality decline, testicular damage and abnormal sex hormones. The extent and duration of these damages are still unclear, and further multidimensional research is necessary.

Objective:To investigate the clinical characteristics and imaging manifestations of primary bone lymphoma (PBL) located in the jaw. Methods:Clinical data of 14 PBL patients admitted to The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2014 to April 2019 were retrospectively analyzed, which including age, gender, location, chief complaint, laboratory test, imaging manifestations and so on.Results:Among the 14 PBL patients, 10 were male and 4 were female. Age range from 4 to 79 years, median age was 56 years old. There were 6 cases involved maxillary, 7 cases involved mandible and 1 case involved mandible and maxillary simultaneously. Twelve patients were admitted with local mass as the chief complaint, 3 had a history of toothache, 4 had loosen tooth and 2 had numbness of lips and cheeks. Two cases of oral mass with mucosal surface ulcer or abscess formation. One case complained of fever, night sweats and other systemic symptoms. The imaging findings showed 8 cases of osteolytic lesions, 1 case of sclerosis, 4 cases of mixed lesions and 1 case of cystic lesions. One case had periosteum reaction. In 12 cases, there was an obvious mass, which was characterized by the large soft-tissue mass and marrow changes were associated with surprisingly little cortical destruction. Conclusions:PBL is more common in middle aged male. The upper and lower jaw bones can be involved. Clinical and imaging manifestations lack characteristics, and common dental or periodontal symptoms such as toothache, tooth loosening, and paresthesia may occur. However, the imaging characteristics of large soft tissue masses with small degree of bone destruction can be used as an important basis for the differential diagnosis of osteomyelitis, squamous cell carcinoma, osteosarcoma and other diseases.

Objective To detect the expression of BMI-1, and to discuss its role in the development of gastric cancer. Methods The expression of BMI-1 protein and mRNA in gastric cancer and adjacent tissues was detected by immunohistochemical P-V method (78 cases) and semi-quantitative RT-PCR (30 cases). Results The positive expression rate of BMI-1 protein in gastric cancer patients was 66.7 % (52/78), and it was 19.2 % (15/78) in adjacent tissues, the difference was statistically significant (χ2= 35.815, P= 0.000). The expression of BMI-1 mRNA in 30 gastric cancer tissues was 0.23 ± 0.12, it was 0.03 ± 0.12 in adjacent tissues, the difference was statistically significant (t=8.372, P=0.000). The expression of BMI-1 protein and mRNA was correlated with the degree of tumor differentiation, depth of invasion, lymph node metastasis and TNM staging (all P< 0.05). Conclusion The expression of BMI-1 is closely related to the occurrence and development of gastric cancer, which may provide guidance for molecular pathogenesis, targeted therapy and prognosis of gastric cancer.

BACKGROUNDLittle is known about the value of (31)P-magnetic resonance spectroscopy ((31)P-MRS) in in vivo assessment of exhaustive exercise-induced injury in skeletal muscle. We aimed to evaluate the value of a (31)P-MRS study using the quadriceps femoris after a single bout of acute exhaustive swimming in rats, and the correlation between (31)P-MRS and histological changes.
METHODSSixty male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to control, half-exhaustive, and exhaustive exercise groups. (31)P-MRS of the quadriceps femoris of the right lower limb was performed immediately after swimming exercise to detect Pi, PCr, and β-ATP. The Pi/PCr, Pi/β-ATP, PCr/β-ATP, and PCr/(PCr+Pi) were calculated and pH measured. Areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUCs) were calculated to evaluate the diagnostic potential of (31)P-MRS in identifying and distinguishing the three groups. HE staining, electron microscopy and desmin immunostaining after imaging of the muscle were used as a reference standard. The correlation between (31)P-MRS and the mean absorbance (A value) of desmin staining were analyzed with the Pearson correlation test.
RESULTSPi, PCr, Pi/PCr, and PCr/(PCr+Pi) showed statistically significant intergroup differences (P < 0.05). AUCs of Pi, PCr, Pi/PCr, and PCr/(PCr+Pi) were 0.905, 0.848, 0.930, and 0.930 for the control and half-exhaustive groups, while sensitivity and specificity were 90%/85%, 95%/55%, 95%/80%, and 90%/85%, respectively. The AUCs of Pi, PCr, Pi/PCr and PCr/(PCr+Pi) were 0.995, 0.980, 1.000, and 1.000 for the control and exhaustive groups, while sensitivity and specificity were 95%/90%, 100%/90%, 100%/95%, and 100%/95%, respectively. The AUCs of Pi, PCr, Pi/PCr, and PCr/(PCr+Pi) were 0.735, 0.865, 0.903, and 0.903 for the half-exhaustive and exhaustive groups, while sensitivity and specificity were 80%/60%, 90%/75%, 95%/65%, and 95%/70%, respectively. In the half-exhaustive group, some muscle fibers exhibited edema in HE staining, and the unclear Z-discs and the mitochondria with vacuolar degeneration under electron microscopy. Compared with the half-exhaustive group, muscle fiber edema was increased in the exhaustive group, and the Z-discs were broken and the mitochondria exhibited marked vacuolar degeneration under electron microscopy. There were significant difference in A values of desmin staining in the right vastus lateralis among the control, half-exhaustive, and exhaustive groups with 0.58 ± 0.06, 0.30 ± 0.04, and 0.21 ± 0.02, respectively (P < 0.05). Histological examination also showed injury-induced changes in the vastus lateralis among the different intensities groups. Statistically a moderate correlation between (31)P-MRS and desmin was observed, the correlation coefficients of Pi, PCr, Pi/PCr, and PCr/(PCr+Pi) were -0.706, 0.709, -0.726, and 0.791, respectively (P < 0.01).
CONCLUSIONS(31)P-MRS can effectively reflect the changes in energy metabolism in the skeletal muscle after a single bout of acute exhaustive swimming in rats. Based on the significant correlation between (31)P-MRS parameters and histological changes, the changes of Pi, PCr, Pi/PCr, and PCr/(PCr+Pi) can indirectly reflect the degree of exercise-induced injury.

Objective To assess the effect of aortic valve replacement (AVR) on left ventricular (LV) twist function in severe aortic stenosis (AS) patients with preserved LV ejection fraction (LVEF) by speckle tracking imaging (STI).Methods Twenty-eight severe aortic stenosis (AS) patients (17 male, age 64.1 ± 10.4 years) with normal LVEF (≥50%) were examined by STI before and six months after AVR.The standard mitral valve and apical short-axis views were obtained to analyze LV basal and apical peak systolic rotation.LV peak systolic twist was calculated as the different between apical rotation and basal rotation.LV fractional shortening (LVFS) was calculated as the percentage fall of LV systolic dimension with respect to diastolic dimension. The data were compared with 28 age and sex-matched normal controls. Results In patients,LVEF remained unchanged after AVR.LV twist increased before (19.7° ± 5.7° vs 12.9° ± 3.2°,P <0.001) because of increased apical rotation (13.0° ± 5.8° vs 7.6° ± 2.6°,P <0.001),and normalized after AVR (14.4°± 5.2°,P <0.001).In controls,LV twist correlated with LVFS (r =0.81,P < 0.001),this relationship was reversed in patients before (r =0.52,P <0.01) and after AVR (r =0.34,P >0.05).Conclusions In patients with severe AS and normal LVEF,LV twist is exaggerated suggesting potential compensation for reduced long axis function. These disturbances normalize within six months of AVR but lose their relationship with basal LV function.

Objective To discuss the worthiness of real-time three-dimensional echocardiography in researching normal fetal heart ventricle growth and systolic function. Methods End-systolic volume(EDV),end-diastolic volume(ESV), struggle volume(SV) and ejection fraction(EF) of 54 normal fetal were acquired from 3-D data by Qlab software. The relation between ventricular growth with pregnant week was analysed and the difference of the volume and systolic function between left ventricle with right ventricle were compared. Results Ventricular volume of normal fetal heart (EDV,ESV,SV) were all increased with the gestational ages, there was linear relativity between them, while EF was not increased with pregnant weeks, there was no linear relativity between them. There was no statistics difference on EDV and ESV between left ventricle and right ventricle, while there was statistics difference on SV, EF between them. Conclusions The image of fetal endocarium could be derived clearly by real-time three-dimensional echocardiography, which help to get fetal heart ventricular volume and to study fetal heart growth and function.

Objective To evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of real-time three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography(TEE) in assessment of left atrial appendage(LAA) function. Methods Forty-two atrial fibrillation patients underwent real-time three-dimensional TEE. LAA ejection fraction based on two-dimensional area measurements(EFA-2D), three-dimensional area measurements(EFA-3D) and three-dimensional volume measurements(EFv-3D) were calculated and related to LAA peak empty velocity (PEV). The variability within observer and interobserver were tested. Results EFA-2D was significantly higher than EFA-3D[(62.84 ± 17.27)% vs (45.39 ± 16.58)%, P = 0.000] and EFv-3D [( 62.84 ±17.27) % vs (48.35 ± 19.37) %, P = 0.001 ], whereas EFA-3D and EFv-3D had no significant difference ( P = 0.158). In a simple linear correlation, the degree of association between EFv-3D and PEV was higher as between EFA-3D and PEV ( r = 0.662 vs 0.604,both P <0.05). No significant correlation was observed between EFA-2D and PEV ( r = 0.529, P = 0.130). Variabilities within observer and interobserver were no significant differences by the three methods( P >0.05). Conclusions LAA ejection fraction calculation by real-time three-dimensional TEE is feasible and more accurate than by 2D TEE.
