Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is characterized by excessive accumulation of hepatic lipids and metabolic stress-induced liver injury. There are currently no approved effective pharmacological treatments for NAFLD. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has been used for centuries to treat patients with chronic liver diseases without clear disease types and mechanisms. More recently, TCM has been shown to have unique advantages in the treatment of NAFLD. We performed a systematic review of the medical literature published over the last two decades and found that many TCM formulas have been reported to be beneficial for the treatment of metabolic dysfunctions, including Potentilla discolor Bunge (PDB). PDB has a variety of active compounds, including flavonoids, terpenoids, organic acids, steroids and tannins. Many compounds have been shown to exhibit a series of beneficial effects for the treatment of NAFLD, including anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory functions, improvement of lipid metabolism and reversal of insulin resistance. In this review, we summarize potential therapeutic effects of TCM formulas for the treatment of NAFLD, focusing on the medicinal properties of natural active compounds from PDB and their underlying mechanisms. We point out that PDB can be classified as a novel candidate for the treatment and prevention of NAFLD.

Objective:To investigate the effect of combining repeated high-frequency transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) with escitalopram in treating the neurological functioning and post-stroke depression of stroke survivors. Methods:Eighty persons with post-stroke depression were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, each of 40. The control group was treated with oral escitalopram, while the observation group also received transcranial magnetic stimulation at 5Hz. The magnetic stimulation intensity was 80% of each person′s resting motion threshold. The rTMS was administered once a day, 5 days a week for 8 weeks. Neurological functioning and depression were evaluated using National Institutes of Health stroke scoring (NIHSS) and the Hamilton depression scale before and after the 8 weeks of treatment. The levels of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin-2 (IL-2) and interleukin-6 (IL-6) in serum samples from the two groups were detected using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. Results:After treatment, the NIHSS and Hamilton scores and TNF-α, IL-2 and IL-6 levels in both groups had improved significantly, but in each case they were significantly better in the treated group, on average. Conclusion:Supplementing escitalopram with high-frequency transcranial magnetic stimulation more effectively improves depression and neurological functioning after a stroke.

Objective:To study the basic characteristics and gene evolution of M segment of fever and thrombocytopenia syndrome virus (SFTSV)in China. Methods:The full sequence of M fragment of SFTSV strain isolated in China before June 25, 2020 was obtained from GenBank. The BioEdit software was used for multi-sequence alignment and MEGA5.0 software was used to construct the phylogenetic tree to compare the homology of SFTSV, which came from different types and sources. Results:M fragments of 203 SFTSV isolated in China was collected from GenBank database.. Among them, 185 strains were isolated from humans (91.1%), 11 strains were isolated from ticks(5.4%), and 5 strains were isolated from goat, mice and hedgehog (3.5%). Phylogenetic tree analysis showed that C2 genotype was dominant in China, accounting for 42.4% of total. The nucleotide sequence and amino acid sequence homology were 96.4%~100.0%, 94.5%~100.0%, respectively. The homology of human and animal isolates was very high. The nucleotide sequence and amino acid sequence homology were 92.5%~100.0% and 92.0%~100.0%, respectively. Conclusions:Phylogenetic tree analysis of SFTSV isolates in China based on the M fragment showed that C2 genotype was dominant, and there are multiple types of co-circulation. By comparing M and S-segment-based phylogenetic tree, it suggests that SFTSV may potential undergo adaptive conversion from C-type to J-type.

Aim To explore the protective effects of lithium chloride ( LiCl ) on neurous injuries and phos-phorylation of tau protein at serine262 induced by okada-ic acid( OA) . Methods The neuroblastoma SK-N-SH cells were differentiated by all-trans-retinoic acid ( AT-RA) . The differentiated SK-N-SH cells were treated with OA to establish the Alzheimer′s disease cellular model. SK-N-SH cells′ viability and proliferation were measured by SRB test. Giemsa staining was used to observe cell morphology. The neurite length of SK-N-SH cells was measured by Image-Proplus software. Syn-aptophysin and phosphorylated tau protein at serine262 expression levels were tested by Western blot. Results The SK-N-SH cells which were treated with 10 μmol ·L-1 ATRA for 7 days displayed mature neuronal fea-tures. The synaptic length of SK-N-SH cells became longer. And the levels of serine262 phospho-tau was sig-nificantly elevated. 20~100 nmol·L-1 OA effectively inhibited the viability of differentiated SK-N-SH cells in a concentration-dependent manner and in a time-de-pendent manner. The OA treatment induced obvious synaptic atrophy in differentiated SK-N-SH cells. And the phosphorylation level of tau protein serine262 also greatly increased. The pretreatment with 10 mmol · L-1 LiCl significantly ameliorated the synaptic atrophy, the decrease of synaptophysin expression and the in-crease of tau phosphorylation at serine262 induced by OA in differentiated SK-N-SH cells. Conclusion LiCl could effectively inhibit OA-induced synaptic atro-phy in differentiated SK-N-SH cells, and it could also result in the increase of synaptophysin expression and the decrease of the phosphorylation of tau protein at serine262 .

Chinese Journal of Gastroenterology 2016;21(6):372-375
Chronic hepatitis B(CHB)is one of the most commom cause of liver fibrosis. Accurate assessment of liver fibrosis is essential for the strategy of treatment and judgement of prognosis . Liver biopsy is the gold standard for staging fibrosis, but it is invasive with high cost, low reproducibility and poor acceptance by patients. Therefore,it is urgent to explore a noninvasive modality for the assessment of liver fibrosis. Recent evidence highlights that elastographic techniques, biochemical markers and the diagnostic model consisted of several serum markers have the potential for the diagnosis of liver fibrosis. This article reviewed the progress in noninvasive assessment of liver fibrosis in patients with CHB.
