Objective:To understand the prevalence and epidemiological characteristics of glaucoma among people over 40 years old in rural areas of Chongqing. Methods:From August to October 2018, a stratified cluster random sampling method was used to investigate the cases of glaucoma among people over 40 years old in a rural population of the Rongchang and Qijiang Districts in Chongqing. The subjects had been living in the local area for over ten years.Basic information for each patient, including gender and age was documented, and their visual acuity and intraocular pressure were routinely measured. The Van Herick method was used to evaluate the depth of the central and peripheral anterior chamber, a preset lens was used to examine the fundus, and the cup to disc ratio(C/D) of the optic disc was emphasized. All suspected glaucoma patients underwent further standard glaucoma examinations. This study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of the First Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University. Results:A total of 4 680 people were identified, and 4 073 respondents participated in the survey, and the response rate was 87%.The prevalence of glaucoma was 1.72% (70/4 073). There were no significant differences in the prevalence of primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) and primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) between different genders ( χ2=0.042, P=0.837; χ2=2.838, P=0.092). The prevalence of glaucoma in people over 70 years old was 2.5%, significantly higher than that in other age groups. In patients with glaucoma, the rate of visual impairment was 68.57%(48/70), and the rate of blindness was 47.14%(33/70). There was no significant difference in the incidence of low vision between different types of glaucoma ( χ2=2.785, P=0.248), but there was a significant difference in the rate of blindness ( χ2=10.668, P=0.005). The highest rate of blindness was found in secondary glaucoma. The detection rate of intraocular pressure, anterior chamber depth and C/D was statistically significant ( χ2=43.325, P<0.001), and the positive rate of C/D was the highest. When the factors of intraocular pressure, and C/D were considered jointly, the detection rate of glaucoma could be increased to 55.88%. Conclusions:The prevalence of glaucoma is 1.72% among people over 40 years old in rural areas of Chongqing, the prevalence of PACG is lower than previously recorded, but the proportion of glaucoma-induced visual impairment is higher. In field screening, the morphological examination of the fundus optic nerve is very important for the diagnosis of glaucoma.

Objective:To investigate the effects of targeted artery perfusion of verapamil and chemotherapy drugs on advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).Methods:Sixty patients with advanced NSCLC who were admitted to the Central Hospital of Zhumadian from April 2016 to April 2018 were selected as the research subjects. They were divided into the observation group (26 cases) and the control group (34 cases) according to the treatment method. Patients in the observation group were treated with targeted artery perfusion of verapamil and chemotherapy drugs while the control group were treated with target artery perfusion of chemotherapy drugs alone. Both groups were treated continuously for more than 2 months. The short-term curative effect, adverse reactions, changes in immune function, levels of serum tumor markers and Karnofsky Performance Scale (KPS) scores before and after treatment as well as the prognosis were compared between the two groups. Results:The response rate and control rate in the observation group were 80.8% and 96.2%, higher than 55.9% and 76.5% in the control group ( P<0.05). After treatment, CD4 + levels and CD4 + /CD8 + in the observation group were (25.43±2.76)% and (0.88±0.11), lower than (27.56±2.79)% and (0.95±0.13) in the control group ( P<0.05). After treatment, serum levels of CEA and CA50 in the observation group were (11.57±2.32)ng/ml and (16.62±3.28)U/ml, also lower than (15.87±2.66)ng/ml and (20.31±3.42)U/ml in the control group ( P<0.05). There was no significant difference in adverse reactions between the two groups ( P>0.05). After treatment, KPS score of the observation group was (81.44±2.76) points, higher than (79.62±2.38) points of the control group ( P<0.05). The median survival time and progression-free median survival time of the observation group were 16.0 months and 7.5 months, respectively, significantly better than 10.0 months and 5.0 months of the control group ( P<0.05). Conclusions:The treatment with target arterial perfusion of verapamil and chemotherapy drugs for advanced NSCLC can effectively improve the short-term curative effect, reduce serum levels of tumor markers, improve life quality and prolong the survival time. However, it has a certain inhibitory effect on the patient′s immune function.

Objective To explore the design of word-picture matching semantic judgment task based on Chinese high frequency nouns and further explore the way to apply the task in a functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)/event-related potential (ERP) study. Methods The materials, stimuli and procedure of the word-picture matching semantic task were provided. Then, a healthy subject for the pilot study was included. In the pilot study, fMRI and ERP data of the subject were collected during the word-picture matching task. The fMRI and ERP data were analyzed to test the feasibility of the word-picture matching task in an fMRI/ERP task. Results The results of fMRI analysis showed an increased activity in the right middle frontal gyrus under the word-picture presenting condition compared with the "+" presenting condition. In addition, fMRI analysis showed an increased activity in the right middle temporal gyrus in the word-picture mismatching condition compared with the word-picture matching condition. The results of ERP analysis showed an increased activity in the left frontal/temporal area in the word-picture matching condition and an increased activity in the right frontal area in the word-picture mismatching condition. Conclusion Language associated brain regions can be identified in the fMRI/ERP research based on the word-picture matching task described in this article, which indicated that the task is effective in exploring language processing mechanism in the brain.

Neuroscience Bulletin 2018;34(3):517-526
The process of reading words depends heavily on efficient visual skills, including analyzing and decomposing basic visual features. Surprisingly, previous reading-related studies have almost exclusively focused on gross aspects of visual skills, while only very few have investigated the role of finer skills. The present study filled this gap and examined the relations of two finer visual skills measured by grating acuity (the ability to resolve periodic luminance variations across space) and Vernier acuity (the ability to detect/discriminate relative locations of features) to Chinese character-processing as measured by character form-matching and lexical decision tasks in skilled adult readers. The results showed that Vernier acuity was significantly correlated with performance in character form-matching but not visual symbol form-matching, while no correlation was found between grating acuity and character processing. Interestingly, we found no correlation of the two visual skills with lexical decision performance. These findings provide for the first time empirical evidence that the finer visual skills, particularly as reflected in Vernier acuity, may directly contribute to an early stage of hierarchical word processing.
