Journal of Prevention and Treatment for Stomatological Diseases 2024;32(4):287-295
Objective:
To explore the treatment options for congenitally missing teeth in patients with ectodermal dysplasia and provide a clinical reference.
Methods:
A patient with ectodermal dysplasia with a concave midface, anterior protrusion of the chin, and underdevelopment of the lower third of the face presented with congenital loss of multiple maxillary teeth, malocclusion of the remaining teeth, congenital loss of mandibular dentition, small dental arches, and upper and lower alveolar bone hypoplasia. The patient was treated by means of a removable partial maxillary prosthesis, implants in the anterior region of the lower mandible designed with the assistance of digital guides, and bar-clamped implant-overlay prostheses. A literature review of the protocol for the treatment of this condition was also conducted.
Results:
In addition to good retention and stability after denture wear, an excellent occlusal relationship, improvement of the patient's facial appearance, including upper and lower lip fullness, more equal balancing of the lower and middle 1/3 of the face, and improved masticatory function were achieved. The results of the literature review showed that patients with ectodermal dysplasia who are congenitally edentulous usually have a complex intraoral situation that makes restoration difficult, and common restorative modalities for these patients include fixed bridges, removable partial dentures, complete dentures, overdentures, and implant prostheses, which need to be selected according to the actual intraoral situation of each patient. Currently, there is no consensus on the treatment of congenitally missing teeth in patients with ectodermal dysplasia, and some scholars have suggested that fixed restorations be recommended for patients with fewer missing teeth, while the option of removable or implant-covered denture restorations should be given to patients with more missing teeth, with removeable prostheses for underage patients that are replaced with permanent fixed prostheses when the jaws have stabilized.
Conclusion
In patients with ectodermal dysplasia with congenital tooth loss, all factors should be taken into account, and an individualized restorative plan should be developed.

Chinese Journal of Tissue Engineering Research 2024;28(34):5500-5507
BACKGROUND:Vertigo is closely related to clinical neurological disorders. When neurons are damaged or dead,it may lead to abnormalities in the vestibular system and trigger vertigo symptoms. Therefore,it is necessary to explore and analyze the hotspots related to vertigo that are common in clinical neurology. OBJECTIVE:To analyze the vertigo-related histopathological changes in clinical neurology and the research hotspots worldwide using bibliometric methods. METHODS:The WanFang database and Web of Science core set database were searched by the first author to retrieve the research-related literature published from 2014-2023 on the treatment of common vertigo in clinical neurology.A bibliometric analysis of the number of publications,country/region,institution,keywords,co-cited literature, and highly cited literature was peformed using VOSviewer_1.6.19 software to summarize the research hotspots in this research field. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Web of Science core set database had the highest number of 174 publications in this field in 2022,and WanFang database had the highest number of 133 publications in this field in 2020.The top 3 countries with the highest number of publications are the United States,Germany, and China. The University of Munich,Germany is the international institution with the highest number of publications in this field, while Chengdu University of Traditional Chinese Medicine is the Chinese institution with the highest number of publications in this field. The results of keyword analysis showed that the research hotspot diseases in this field in China are mainly Meniere's disease, cervical vertigo, senile vertigo, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, isolated vertigo, and hypertensive vertigo, and the treatments include acupuncture, rehabilitation, medication(gastrodin,Banxia Baizhu Tianma Tang),and manipulative reduction.International research hotspot diseases in this field mainly include benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, vestibular disorders in new coronavirus cases,Meniere's disease, vestibular schwannoma, acoustic neuromas, and vestibular migraines, etc.,and the hotspot treatments are antivertiginous medications, antidepressant and anxiolytic treatments, and microsurgery. The results of literature co-citation analysis showed that for acute vestibular syndrome with persistent vertigo as the main symptom,three-step bedside ophthalmoscopy(HINTS:Head-Impact-Nystagmus-Strabismus Test)is more sensitive than early MRI in the diagnosis of combined strokes in patients with acute vestibular syndrome, which is the most peer-recognized method of detecting strokes in vestibular syndrome, whereas hormonal therapy is more effective to treat vestibular neuritis patients with paroxysmal vertigo as the main symptom. The results of highly cited literature analysis showed that,in the hot literature included in WanFang database in the past 10 years, acupuncture at Fengchi point and the acupuncture method of inducing resuscitation to improve posterior circulation ischemic vertigo have achieved certain results. The literature published in the past 3 years has indicated that Ginkgo biloba leaf extract+gastrodin, acupuncture+Banxia Baizhu Tang, betahistine+gastrodin, vestibular rehabilitation training+Epley Maneuver, all can improve the vertigo symptoms to different degrees. While there were no featured anti-vertigo drugs indicated in the literature in the Web of Science core set data in the recent 10 years, and most of them are based on traditional anti-vertigo drugs and microsurgery. However, there are a few case reports in the international literature in the last 3 years that found that COVID-19 infection may lead to vestibular neuritis and vertigo symptoms. The onset and progression of vertigo may be closely related to neuronal damage and regeneration. For example, viral infections, inflammatory stimuli,or other pathologic factors may lead to neuronal damage or death, thereby affecting the function of the vestibular system.Vertigo-related diagnosis and treatment standardization guidelines have been published both domestically and internationally.Currently, international guidelines recommend the combination of vestibular rehabilitation and physical rehabilitation for the treatment of vertigo, and Chinese guidelines recommend the combination of Chinese and Western medicine, reduction and acupuncture. However, the level of evidence is not very high,so a large number of large-sample,multicenter randomized controlled trials on anti-vertigo treatment are needed in the future.

Diabetes & Metabolism Journal 2023;47(6):859-868
Background:
Prediabetes leads to declines in physical function in older adults, but the impact of prediabetes progression or regression on physical function is unknown. This study assessed this longitudinal association, with physical function objectivelymeasured by grip strength, walking speed, and standing balance, based on the Health and Retirement Study enrolling United States adults aged >50 years.
Methods:
Participants with prediabetes were followed-up for 4-year to ascertain prediabetes status alteration (maintained, regressed, or progressed), and another 4-year to assess their impacts on physical function. Weak grip strength was defined as <26 kg for men and <16 kg for women, slow walking speed was as <0.8 m/sec, and poor standing balance was as an uncompleted fulltandem standing testing. Logistic and linear regression analyses were performed.
Results:
Of the included 1,511 participants with prediabetes, 700 maintained as prediabetes, 306 progressed to diabetes, and 505 regressed to normoglycemia over 4 years. Grip strength and walking speed were declined from baseline during the 4-year followup, regardless of prediabetes status alteration. Compared with prediabetes maintenance, prediabetes progression increased the odds of developing weak grip strength by 89% (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.04 to 2.44) and exhibited larger declines in grip strength by 0.85 kg (95% CI, –1.65 to –0.04). However, prediabetes progression was not related to impairments in walking speed or standing balance. Prediabetes regression also did not affect any measures of physical function.
Conclusion
Prediabetes progression accelerates grip strength decline in aging population, while prediabetes regression may not prevent physical function decline due to aging.

Chinese Journal of Hospital Administration 2023;39(2):124-128
As an important element of medical and health sector innovation, the translation of scientific and technological achievements plays a key role in promoting their clinical application and meeting the medical needs of the people. The authors sorted out the problems in such translation at these affiliated hospitals in terms of " people", " finance", " material", and " system". Starting from 2017, the Tenth People′s Hospital Affiliated to Tongji University has explored such practices as establishing hospital-led clinical medical science and technology innovation parks and technology service limited companies. These practices aimed to address the issues of insufficient hospital scientific and technological innovation capabilities and the gap between the hospital′s operation mechanism to translate its scientific and technological achievements and the enterprises and the market. The clinical medical science and technology innovation park integrating administration, industry, education, research, medicine and application, has taken multiple measures to attract excellent research talents and projects from within and beyond the hospital, promote the implementation of innovative scientific research projects. The hospital also established a health industry mode with engagement of social capital from large enterprises. The Technology Services Co., Ltd. was based on the incubation and translation of hospital achievements, combining market and clinical needs, promoting multi-party cooperation between hospitals and external enterprises, improving the chain operation mechanism of hospital scientific and technological achievements translation work, and alleviating the problem of insufficient research pilot funds and productibility funds by means of hospital-led fundraising. The number of patent authorizations of hospitals had increased from 23 cases in 2018 to 105 in 2022, and the amount of patent conversion had increased from 2 million yuan in 2020 to 11 million yuan in 2022. It is recommended that affiliated hospitals of universities further improve the organizational structure of achievement translation, strengthen their professional talent teams, improve their operation mechanism of achievement translation, build a platform for medical school-enterprise cooperation, and improve the evaluation mechanism of translation assessment, in order to promote a virtuous cycle of hospital′s scientific and technological achievement translation work.

Precisely delivering combinational therapeutic agents has become a crucial challenge for anti-tumor treatment. In this study, a novel redox-responsive polymeric prodrug (molecular weight, MW: 93.5 kDa) was produced by reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization. The amphiphilic block polymer-doxorubicin (DOX) prodrug was employed to deliver a hydrophobic photosensitizer (PS), chlorin e6 (Ce6), and the as-prepared nanoscale system [NPs(Ce6)] was investigated as a chemo-photodynamic anti-cancer agent. The glutathione (GSH)-cleavable disulfide bond was inserted into the backbone of the polymer for biodegradation inside tumor cells, and DOX conjugated onto the polymer with a disulfide bond was successfully released intracellularly. NPs(Ce6) released DOX and Ce6 with their original molecular structures and degraded into segments with low MWs of 41.2 kDa in the presence of GSH. NPs(Ce6) showed a chemo-photodynamic therapeutic effect to kill 4T1 murine breast cancer cells, which was confirmed from a collapsed cell morphology, a lifted level in the intracellular reactive oxygen species, a reduced viability and induced apoptosis. Moreover, ex vivo fluorescence images indicated that NPs(Ce6) retained in the tumor, and exhibited a remarkable in vivo anticancer efficacy. The combinational therapy showed a significantly increased tumor growth inhibition (TGI, 58.53%). Therefore, the redox-responsive, amphiphilic block polymeric prodrug could have a great potential as a chemo-photodynamic anti-cancer agent.

Objective:To investigate the influence of different types of wound dressings on red light transmittance. Methods:A treatment environment for wounds exposed to red light was simulated.Red light transmittance of four types of 19 dressings commonly used in clinic were detected respectively and compared. The transmittance was calculated as the ratio of the intensity of the red light through the dressing to the intensity of the injected red light. Results:The red light transmittance for each dressing was the following: (1)Cotton gauze and pad: 29.4% for one piece of coarse gauze, 10.5% for one cotton pad; (2)Oil dressings: 73.0%~79.1% for light-color oil dressings, 41.7% for dark-color oil dressings-Atrauman ?; (3)Hydrocolloid dressings: 87.8%~90.2%; (4)Foams: 74.7% for light-color ultra-thin foam-Mepilex ? sheet, 0.8% for black-color thicker foam dressings-Mepilex ? Ag dressing, and 20.5%-54.2% for the other foam dressings. Conclusions:The red light transmittance of hydrocolloid dressing, light-colored oil gauze dressing and light-colored ultra-thin foam dressing is higher, with less red light-blocking effect, and the dark-color or thicker dressings had more blocking effect, which showed different therapeutic effect on wound.Gauze and cotton pad have great blocking influence on red light transmittance, and are not suitable for temporary covering of wound during red light treatment.Hence, the effect of wound dressing on red light transmittance should be taken into account when the wound is treated with red light.
