AIM:To analyze the association between mobile phone addiction and high myopia among college students.METHODS:We conducted a cross-sectional questionnaire survey in December 2022 on all students of a university in Shaanxi Province, and the questionnaire included socio-demographic characteristics, mobile phone addiction, high myopia, and lifestyle. Binary Logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between mobile phone addiction and high myopia among college students.RESULTS:A total of 19 952 college students were included. The prevalence of high myopia was 7.31%. The rate of mobile phone addiction was 25.68%, and the mobile phone addiction score was 37.59±13.38. The incidence of high myopia among college students with mobile phone addiction was higher than non-mobile phone addiction(P<0.001). After adjusting for socio-demographic characteristics and lifestyle, the risk of high myopia among college students with mobile phone addiction was 1.274 times(95%CI:1.131-1.434)higher than non-mobile phone addiction. For each point increase of total mobile phone addiction score, withdrawal symptoms score, salience score, social comfort score, and mood changes score, the risk of high myopia among college students increased by 0.9%(95%CI:1.005-1.013), 2.0%(95%CI:1.010-1.030), 2.6%(95%CI:1.010-1.043), 4.8%(95%CI:1.030-1.066), and 3.3%(95%CI:1.014-1.052), respectively.CONCLUSION:Mobile phone addiction is significantly associated with the increased risk of high myopia among college students, and early intervention of mobile phone use may reduce the risk of high myopia among college students.

Objective:To evaluate the reliability and validity of the Chinese version of HEMO-FISS-QoL(HF-QoL) questionnaire (HF-QoL-C) in the Chinese population with hemorrhoids. Methods:From November 2021 to November 2022, a self-constructed general information questionnaire, HF-QoL-C, and the 36-item short form health survey (SF-36), Goligher classification, and Giordano severity of hemorrhoid symptom questionnaire (GSQ) were used to conduct a questionnaire survey on 760 hemorrhoid patients in the anorectal department of six hospitals. The data was analyzed for reliability and validity using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 26.0 software. Results:The Cronbach's α coefficient of HF-QoL-C and its dimension ranged from 0.831 to 0.960, and the split coefficient was 0.832-0.915. Four common factors were extracted through principal component exploratory factor analysis. Confirmatory factor analysis indicated acceptable structural validity( χ2/ df=8.152, RSMEA=0.097, CFI=0.881, IFI=0.881, NFI=0.867). HF-QoL-C was correlated with SF36 and GSQ( r=-0.694, 0.501, both P<0.01). There were differences in the total score and dimensional scores of HF-QoL-C between surgical and drug treated patients, different grades of Goligher classification for hemorrhoidal disease, and different ranges of hemorrhoid prolapse (all P<0.001). No ceiling effect was found in the total score and the scores of each dimension(0.3%-2.0%). There was a floor effect in both psychological function and sexual activity dimensions (16.7%, 35.1%). Conclusion:HF-QoL-C has good reliability and validity, which can be used to measure the quality of life of Chinese hemorrhoid patients.

Background and objective The malignant tumor that has the highest global morbidity and death rate is lung cancer, which primarily affects the elderly. The therapy landscape for non-small cell lung cancer(NSCLC)has trans-formed with the introduction of immune checkpoint inhibitors(ICIs).The purpose of this study was to compare the safety and efficacy of immune monotherapy and immunotheray combined with chemotherapy in patients with advanced NSCLC aged 75 years and above. Methods This study retrospectively analyzed 111 patients with advanced NSCLC who were at least 75 years old and received treatment at the First or Fifth Medical Centers of the People's Liberation Army General Hospital from January 2018 to October 2022.These patients underwent first-line or second-line treatment, with 70 receiving immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy and 41 receiving immunotherapy alone.Propensity score matching(PSM)was used to match the baseline characteristics of the patients, including age,Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group performance status(ECOG PS)score, and the number of treatment lines. The study endpoints included objective response rate(ORR),progression-free survival(PFS),overall survival(OS),and safety assessment. Results The median OS for the immunotherapy combined with chemother-apy group was 27.87 months, and the median PFS was 11.50 months. The median OS for the immune monotherapy group was 34.93 months, and the median PFS was 17.00 months. There were no significant differences in OS(P=0.722)and PFS(P=0.474)between the two groups, but a significant difference was observed in ORR(P=0.025).After PSM matching, each group comprised 27 patients. The median OS for the immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy group was 17.70 months, the median PFS was 8.97 months. The median OS for the immune monotherapy group was 17.87 months, and the median PFS was 11.53 months. No significant differences were observed in OS(P=0.635),PFS(P=0.878)and ORR(P=0.097).In terms of safety, the overall inci-dence of adverse events(AEs)before matching was 62.86% in the immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy group, which was higher than 41.46% in the immune monotherapy group(P=0.029),while there was no difference in the incidence of AEs of grade 3 or above between the two groups(P=0.221).After matching,AEs occurred in 17(62.96% )patients in the immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy group and 13(48.15% )in the immune monotherapy group. There were no significant differences in the overall incidence of AEs(P=0.273)or the incidence of grade 3 or above(P=0.299)between the two groups. Conclusion Im-munotherapy combined with chemotherapy does not significantly improve OS or PFS in patients with NSCLC aged 75 years and above when compared to immunotherapy alone, and this conclusion was further validated by the analysis after PSM.The safety assessment suggests that before matching, the incidence of AEs of any grade in the immunotherapy combined with chemotherapy group was higher.Still, the two groups had no difference in the incidence of AEs of grade 3 or above.Following matching, the tol-erability of the treatment was similar in both groups.According to the safety assessment, the unique circumstances and course of treatment for geriatric patients with advanced NSCLC should be considered.

This article reported a case of neurodevelopmental disorder accompanied by spastic diplegia and visual impairment with the manifestation of small fetal head circumference. Prenatal ultrasonography performed at 33 +5 weeks of pregnancy revealed small fetal head circumference (-2.61SD) and oligohydramnios. Whole-exome sequencing identified a heterozygous frameshift variation of c.1623_1624insA (p.R542Tfs*30) in the CTNNB1 gene (NM_001904.4) of the fetus. No phenotypic abnormalities or corresponding gene variations were detected in the parents, suggesting it was a de novo variation. Based on the clinical manifestations, the fetus was diagnosed with a neurodevelopmental disorder accompanied by spastic diplegia and visual defects. Following genetic counseling, the pregnant woman chose to terminate the pregnancy.

In order to determine the changes of bacterial community structure and function in the early, middle and late stage of aerobic composting of chicken manure, high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatics methods were used to determine and analyze the 16S rRNA sequence of samples at different stages of composting. Wayne analysis showed that most of the bacterial OTUs in the three composting stages were the same, and only about 10% of the operational taxonomic units (OTUs) showed stage specificity. The diversity indexes including Ace, Chao1 and Simpson showed a trend of increasing at first, followed by decreasing. However, there was no significant difference among different composting stages (P < 0.05). The dominant bacteria groups in three composting stages were analyzed at the phylum and genus levels. The dominant bacteria phyla at three composting stages were the same, but the abundances were different. LEfSe (line discriminant analysis (LDA) effect size) method was used to analyze the bacterial biological markers with statistical differences among three stages of composting. From the phylum to genus level, there were 49 markers with significant differences among different groups. The markers included 12 species, 13 genera, 12 families, 8 orders, 1 boundary, and 1 phylum. The most biomarkers were detected at early stage while the least biomarkers were detected at late stage. The microbial diversity was analyzed at the functional pathway level. The function diversity was the highest in the early stage of composting. Following the composting, the microbial function was enriched relatively while the diversity decreased. This study provides theoretical support and technical guidance for the regulation of livestock manure aerobic composting process.

Objective:To evaluate the immunogenicity of a quadrivalent subunit vaccine combined with RFH01 adjuvant in a mouse model. Methods:Identification tests were performed on four monovalent influenza virus subunit vaccine stock solutions according to the methods described in Part 3 of the Chinese Pharmacopoeia 2020 Edition. In the study of the quadrivalent subunit vaccine combined with RFH01 adjuvant, 460 female BALB/c mice (6-8 weeks old) were randomly divided into 46 groups including experimental groups, vaccine control group, negative control group and blank group with 10 mice in each group. In the study of the quadrivalent subunit vaccine in old and young mice, 80 female 10-month-old and 80 female 10-week-old BALB/c mice were randomly divided into 16 groups ( n=10) including monovalent influenza virus vaccine group, quadrivalent subunit vaccine group, quadrivalent subunit vaccine+ RFH01 adjuvant group, chicken embryo quadrivalent split vaccine control group and PBS group. All mice were immunized by intramuscular injection. At 21 d after the primary immunization, a booster immunization was conducted using the same strategy. Blood samples were collected at 21 d and 42 d after the primary immunization for serum separation. Haemagglutination inhibition (HI) test was performed to detect the antibody levels in mouse serum samples. Results:After the booster immunization, the positive conversion rates in all vaccine+ RFH01 adjuvant groups reached 100%, and the geometric mean titers (GMTs) of serum antibodies were significantly higher than those of the vaccine groups without RFH01 adjuvant. There were significant differences in serum antibody titers between the monovalent/quadrivalent subunit vaccine groups with and without RFH01 adjuvant. After the booster immunization, the titers of serum antibodies against H1N1, H3N2, B/Victoria and B/Yamagata in the 10-week-old mice were significantly higher than those in the 10-month-old mice. Conclusions:The monovalent and quadrivalent influenza virus vaccines in combination with RFH01 adjuvant could elicit higher antibody titers in young (6-10 weeks old) and old (10 months old) mice, showing good immunogenicity.
