Reactive oxygen species play a crucial role in maintaining metabolic balance in the body. They are not only important mediators in maintaining a normal physiological environment, but also important triggers for the occurrence and development of many diseases. Osteoarthritis is the most common degenerative joint disease at present. Due to the aging population, extended life expectancy and obesity, the incidence rate and prevalence of osteoarthritis have increased year by year. Recent studies on osteoarthritis show that reactive oxygen species play a crucial role in its occurrence and development, and are key factors leading to extracellular matrix degradation, mitochondrial dysfunction, chondrocyte apoptosis and the progress of osteoarthritis. For osteoarthritis, moderate levels of reactive oxygen species can promote the proliferation of chondrocytes and the formation of cartilage matrix. However, excessive accumulation of reactive oxygen species can induce oxidative stress, leading to degeneration of chondrocytes and breakdown of cartilage matrix, ultimately resulting in the occurrence of osteoarthritis and many other metabolic diseases. In recent years, hydrogels have attracted attention as new biomaterials for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Reactive oxygen scavenging hydrogels are a new type of polymer biomaterials with drug intelligent delivery function that can regulate tissue oxidative stress and inflammatory reaction. They mainly include traditional reactive oxygen scavenging hydrogels with the main function of loading reactive oxygen scavenging drugs and reactive oxygen responsive hydrogels with reactive oxygen responsive groups. The former mainly uses slow-release drugs with reactive oxygen species scavenging properties encapsulated in it to treat osteoarthritis, while the latter can not only clear the reactive oxygen species generated during the occurrence and development of osteoarthritis by breaking the reactive oxygen species responsive groups, but also responsively deliver various drugs for treating osteoarthritis. Reactive oxygen scavenging hydrogels have a good prospect in the treatment of osteoarthritis and repair.

As the most aggressive breast cancer, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is still incurable and very prone to metastasis. The transform growth factor β (TGF-β)-induced epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is crucially involved in the growth and metastasis of TNBC. This study reported that a natural compound isotoosendanin (ITSN) reduced TNBC metastasis by inhibiting TGF-β-induced EMT and the formation of invadopodia. ITSN can directly interact with TGF-β receptor type-1 (TGFβR1) and abrogated the kinase activity of TGFβR1, thereby blocking the TGF-β-initiated downstream signaling pathway. Moreover, the ITSN-provided inhibition on metastasis obviously disappeared in TGFβR1-overexpressed TNBC cells in vitro as well as in mice bearing TNBC cells overexpressed TGFβR1. Furthermore, Lys232 and Asp351 residues in the kinase domain of TGFβR1 were found to be crucial for the interaction of ITSN with TGFβR1. Additionally, ITSN also improved the inhibitory efficacy of programmed cell death 1 ligand 1 (PD-L1) antibody for TNBC in vivo via inhibiting the TGF-β-mediated EMT in the tumor microenvironment. Our findings not only highlight the key role of TGFβR1 in TNBC metastasis, but also provide a leading compound targeting TGFβR1 for the treatment of TNBC metastasis. Moreover, this study also points out a potential strategy for TNBC treatment by using the combined application of anti-PD-L1 with a TGFβR1 inhibitor.

Objective: To evaluate the impact of bleomycin/etoposide/cisplatin (BEP) and paclitaxel/carboplatin (PC) chemotherapy regimens on the fertility and prognostic outcomes in malignant ovarian germ cell tumor (MOGCT) patients who underwent fertility-sparing surgery (FSS). Methods: A propensity score matching algorithm was performed between the BEP and PC groups. The χ2 test and the Kaplan-Meier method were used to compare the fertility outcome, disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). The Cox proportional hazards regression analysis was used to identify risk factor of DFS. Results: We included 213 patients, 185 (86.9%) underwent BEP chemotherapy, and 28 (13.1%) underwent PC chemotherapy. The median age was 22 years (range, 8–44 years), and the median follow-up period was 63 months (range, 2–191 months). Fifty-one (29.3%) patients had a pregnancy plan, and 35 (85.4%) delivered successfully. In the before and after propensity score matching cohorts, there were no significant differences in spontaneous abortion, selective termination of pregnancy, during-pregnancy status, and live birth between the BEP and PC groups (p>0.05). Fourteen (6.6%) patients experienced recurrence, including 11 (5.9%) in the BEP group and 3 (10.7%) in the PC group. Four (1.9%) patients in the BEP group died. Kaplan-Meier analysis revealed no significant differences in DFS (p=0.328) and OS (p=0.446) between the BEP and PC groups, and the same survival results were observed in the after matching cohort. Conclusion The PC regimen is as safe as the BEP regimen for MOGCT patients with fertility preservation treatment, and no differences were observed in fertility and clinical prognosis.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignant tumor with poor prognosis and high mortality. In this study, we demonstrated a novel vaccine targeting HCC and tumor neovascular endothelial cells by fusing recombinant MHCC97H cells expressing porcine α-1,3-galactose epitopes (αGal) and endorphin extracellular domains (END) with dendritic cells (DCs) from healthy volunteers. END⁺/Gal⁺-MHCC97H/DC fusion cells induced cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs) and secretion of interferon-gamma (IFN-γ). CTLs targeted cells expressing αGal and END and tumor angiogenesis. The fused cell vaccine can effectively inhibit tumor growth and prolong the survival time of human hepatoma mice, indicating the high clinical potential of this new cell based vaccine.

Yuebawei refers to 8 kinds of genuine medicinal materials in south China area，namely Citri Grandis Exocarpium， Citrus reticulata， Amomum villosum， Pogostemon cablin， Morinda officinalis， Aquilaria sinensis， Citrus medica and Polygonum multiflorum. The results of this review show that， the pharmacological effects of Yuebawei are very extensive. It has significant effects in relieving cough and phlegm， anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory， enhancing immunity， anti-oxidation， antidepressant， immune regulation and regulating gastrointestinal function. Its development and application prospects are broad， but most of the existing pharmacological studies stay on pharmacodynamic studies. In the aspect of the safety research of Yuebawei， there are few studies on the safety of other medicinal materials， except for the liver toxicity of P. multiflorum； at the same time， there are few comparative studies on the therapeutic advantages of Yuebawei and other local medicinal materials in clinical application. It is necessary to strengthen the research on the material basis of pharmacological action mechanism， and safety and efficacy observation of clinical medication for Yuebawei， so as to provide scientific basis for the development of new drugs and clinical promotion and application of Yuebawei.

Objective: To investigate the ⁹⁰Sr concentration levels in the monitoring areas and the control area at Ningde Nuclear Power Plant (NPP). Methods: Food samples were collected from the monitoring areas in 30 km of Ningde NPP and the control area far away. The radioactive levels of ⁹⁰Sr in food samples were analyzed using the chromatography with 2-(2-ethylhexyl) phosphate fast extraction method. Results: In this survey, ⁹⁰Sr radioactive concentrations in 30 varieties of foods in 6 categories were analyzed. In the monitoring area, ⁹⁰Sr radioactivity concentration in the samples collected were in the range of 0.017-1.830 Bq/kg for cereals, beans and potatoes, 0.021-0.318 Bq/kg for vegetables, 0.007-7.690 Bq/kg for quatic products, and 0.009-0.184 Bq/kg for meats; whereas, in the control area, cereals, beans and potatoes in 0.017-0.700 Bq/kg, vegetables in 0.034-0.677 Bq/kg, aquatic products in 0.038-3.360 Bq/kg, and meats in 0.019-0.054 Bq/kg. Conclusions The ⁹⁰Sr radioactive concentrations in foods were far below the food standard limits in this survey. The contribution of evaluated to the public from the ⁹⁰Sr in foods was neglectable.

Objective To investigate the outcomes of unselected peripheral T cell lymphoma (PTCL) patients treated with in-tensive first-line chemotherapy with high-dose therapy followed by autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT).Methods Here a nonrandom study was reported for 23 PTCL patients treated with first-line intensive chemotherapy followed by autologous stem cell trans-plantation and 23 PTCL patients treated with conventional chemotherapy during January in 2000 to 2011 .All patients had received E-CHOP for 6~8 cycles, and autologous stem cell transplantation group was administrated with intensive chemotherapy followed by ASCT after complete remission or partial remission .Results There was no statistically significant difference in short-term therapeutic effect between two groups( P >0.05), but the 5-year overall survival(OS) of autologous stem cell transplantation group( 58%) was higher than conventional chemotherapy group , as well as 5-year disease-free survival time (DFS) (45%in autologous stem cell transplanta-tion group, and 21%in conventional chemotherapy group ) with both statistical significance ( P <0.05).Only the incidence of Ⅳ° myelosuppression in autologous stem cell transplantation group ( 100%) was higher than that in conventional chemotherapy group ( 13%) ( P <0.01 ) .Conclusions First-line intensive chemotherapy followed by autologous stem cell transplantation for peripheral T cell lymphoma was quietly safe utility , it was better than conventional chemotherapy which would be considered as first -line method.

Objective To investigate the availability and usefulness of echocardiography in piglet of experimental carotid-jugular shunting pulmonary hypertension.Methods Fifty-one 1-month-old piglets were randomly divided into surgical shunt group(CA-JV,n =45) and sham group(n =6).In shunt group,left CA-JV shunt was esteblished by end-to-side vascular anastomosis from left carotid artery to jugular vein.Piglets in sham group received a sham operation.Periodic hemodynamic evaluation of the carotidjugular shunt and heart were performed by ultrasound examination post-surgery.Tricuspid regurgitation and pulmonary regurgitation were monitored for evaluating pulmonary systolic pressure and mean pressure.Results In CA-JV group,32 piglets survived to end point of experiment and 27 maintained a persistent shunting (success rate 60％).Tricuspid regurgitation and pulmonary regurgitation occurred increasingly and pulmonary pressure had risen gradually since 4 months post-surgery (P ＜ 0.05).Those were coincided with the results of right catheterization and pulmonary pathology.Conclusions Ultrasound can monitor experimental carotid-jugular shunting pulmonary hypertension that shows practical value for further study in the mechanism and treatment of pulmonary hypertension due to increased pulmonary blood flow.

Objective To assess the vitro susceptibility to 6 antimicrobial agents and genotypes of clinical isolates of Chlamydia trachomatis (Ct) from Guangzhou region. Methods Ct was isolated from clinical specimens by using McCoy cell culture and subjected to propagation. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) of 6 antimicrobial agents (clarithromycin, roxithromycin, azithromycin, doxycycline, tetracycline, ofloxacin) against Ct isolates were determined in McCoy cell culture. Nested PCR was performed to amplify the outer membrane protein 1 (omp1) VS1-2 gene followed by sequencing. Results Seventy-six Ct strains were isolated from 346 urogenital specimens, and 40 strains met the require ments for susceptibility testing after serial propagation. The MIC50/MIC90 of clarithromycin, azithromycin, roxi thromycin, doxycycline, tetracycline and ofloxacin were as follows: 0.008/0.032, 0.080/0.160, 0.125/0.500, 0.032/0.064, 0.250/0.500 and 0.500/1.000 mg/L. Seven genotypes were observed. The most prevalent geno types in decreasing order were E (14, 35%), J (10, 25%)and F (6, 15%). The MIC50 was consistent for azithromycin among the 7 genotypes, but varied by 1 - 4 folds for doxycycline, ofloxacin and roxithromycin. Conclusions Clarithromycin, doxycycline and azithromycin exhibit an excellent activity against Ct, and the activity of azithromycin is consistent among the 7 genotypes of Ct.
