Objective:To assess the changes of peripheral blood NK cells in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) following belimumab and classic therapy. Methods:From January 2020 to March 2022, peripheral lymphocyte subsets were detected by flow cytometry in SLE patients treated with Belimumab and classic therapy. The duration of treatment was 24 weeks. A total of 40 treated SLE patients were enrolled. The lymphocyte subsets in healthy donors were used as normal control group. Paired sample t-test, rank-sum test, Spearman correlation and generalized linear mixed model were used for statistical analysis. Results:In contrast to healthy subjects, the numbers of NK cells in SLE patients before treatment were significantly decreased [276.0 (179.8, 384.0) cells/μl vs. 61.4 (43.0, 105.1) cells/μl; Z=-7.32, P<0.001], although that after treatment was higher than that before treatment [61.4 (43.0, 105.1) cells/μl vs. 107.7 (72.5, 186.5) cells/μl; Z= -3.22, P<0.001]. Generalized linear mixed model results showed that the increase in serum levels of C3 ( t= -2.94, P=0.006) and NK cells ( t=-2.25, P=0.031) were associated with a decrease of anti-dsDNA antibody titers. The cutoff value of elevated counts of NK cells after treatment was equal or more than 38.5 cells/μl with a sensitivity of 61.9% and a specificity of 81.2%. Compared with those with elevated counts of NK cells ≤38.5 cells/μl, patients with elevated counts of NK cells >38.5 cells/μl had a bigger difference anti-dsDNA antibody [49.2 (0.2, 207.2) vs. 156.2 (19.8, 260.7); Z=-1.55, P=0.120] and a bigger difference of SLEDAI-2000[4.5 (0.0, 10.0) vs. 13.0 (4.5, 18.0); Z=-2.52, P=0.012]. Conclusion:The change in the numbers of NK cells may serve as biomarkers for evaluating the therapeutic responses of SLE. Combinatory approaches employing belimumab and classic therapy may control SLE disease by increasing the number of NK cells

China still has more than 30,000 patients of advanced schistosomiasis while new cases being reported consistently. D-dimer is a fibrin degradation product. As ascites being the dominating symptom in advanced schistosomiasis, the present study aimed to explore a prediction model of ascites with D-dimer and other clinical easy-achievable indicators. A case-control study nested in a prospective cohort was conducted in schistosomiasis-endemic area of southern China. A total of 291 patients of advanced schistosomiasis were first investigated in 2013 and further followed in 2014. Information on clinical history, physical examination, and abdominal ultrasonography, including the symptom of ascites was repeatedly collected. Result showed 44 patients having ascites. Most of the patients' ascites were confined in the kidney area with median area of 20 mm². The level of plasma D-dimer and pertinent liver function indicators were measured at the initial investigation in 2013. Compared with those without ascites, cases with ascites had significantly higher levels of D-dimer (0.71±2.44 μg/L vs 0.48±2.12 μg/L, P=0.005), as well ALB (44.5 vs 46.2, g/L) and Type IV collagen (50.04 vs 44.50 μg/L). Receiver operating characteristic curve analyses indicated a moderate predictive value of D-dimer by its own area under curve (AUC) of 0.64 (95% CI: 0.54–0.73) and the cutoff value as 0.81 μg/L. Dichotomized by the cutoff level, D-dimer along with other categorical variables generated a prediction model with AUC of 0.76 (95% CI: 0.68–0.89). Risks of patients with specific characteristics in the prediction model were summarized. Our study suggests that the plasma D-dimer level is a reliable predictor for incident ascites in advanced schistosomiasis japonica patients.

OBJECTIVETo compare the difference between the acupoint embedding therapy and polyene phosphatidylcholine capsules in the clinical efficacy on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) of liver stagnation and spleen deficiency pattern.
METHODSThe multi-center clinical trial was adopted and 180 cases of NAFLD of liver stagnation and spleen deficiency pattern were randomized into an embedding therapy group and a western medication group, 90 cases in each one. On the basis of general treatment such as diet control and proper physical exercise, in the embedding therapy group, the acupoint embedding therapy was applied to Ganshu (BL 18), Tai-chong (LR 3), Fenglong (ST 40), Zusanli (ST 36) and Sanyinjiao (SP 6), once every 7 days; in the western medication group, polyene phosphatidylcholine capsules (essentiale) were prescribed, 228 mg/capsule, 2 capsules each time, three times a day. In 6 months of treatment, TCM syndrome score, liver enzymology, blood lipid and abdomen B-ultrasound examination were observed and compared before and after treatment between the two groups.
RESULTS(1) For TCM syndrome score, the total score in the embedding therapy group was lower significantly than that in the western medication group (P<0. 05); (2) For liver enzymology and blood lipid, the levels of serum alanine transarninase (ALT), serum glutamic oxalacetic transaminase (AST), total cholesterol (TC) and triacylglycerol (TG) in the embedding therapy group were reduced significantly as compared with those in the western medication group (all P<0. 05); (3) For abdomen B-ultrasound examination, the fatty liver degree in the embedding therapy group was relieved significantly as compared with that in the western medication group (P< 0. 05); (4) For clinical efficacy, the total effective rate was 89. 8%o (79/88) in the embedding therapy group, higher significantly than 76. 7% (69/90) in the western medication group(P<0. 05).
CONCLUSIONThe acupoint embedding therapy achieves the definite efficacy on NAFLD of liver stagnation and spleen deficiency pattern, better than polyene phosphatidylcholine capsules.

Objective:To observe the clinical effects of acupoint thread-embedding method for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in pattern of liver qi stagnation and spleen deficiency.
Methods: A total of180 cases in conformity with the diagnostic criteria of NAFLD in pattern of liver qi stagnation and spleen deficiency were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group, 90 cases in each group, and finally 88 cases in the treatment group and 90 cases in the control group were recruited for statistics. The treatment group was managed by acupoint thread-embedding method, and the control group was treated by oral administration of Polyene Phosphatidylcholine capsules. Both groups were treated for 6 months. Before and after the treatment, liver enzymology, blood fat test, abdominal B ultrasonic examination, and assessment of clinical effects were respectively processed.
Results:After treatment, alanine transaminase (ALT), aspartate transaminase (AST), total cholesterol (TC), and triglyceride (TG) decreased in the treatment group, and were significantly different from those in the control group after treatment (allP<0.05). There was no statistically significant inter-group difference in the degree of fatty liver (by B ultrasound examination) before treatment (P>0.05). After treatment, the improvement degree of fatty liver in the treatment group was more significant than that in the control group (P<0.05). The total effective rates were 89.8% in the treatment group and 76.7% in the control group, with a statistically significant difference between the two groups (P<0.05).
Conclusion:The acupoint thread-embedding method can reduce the levels of ALT, AST, TC and TG in NAFLD patients, and can improve the pathologic degree of fatty liver and its clinical effects are remarkably better than that of oral medications.

Chinese Journal of Neurology 2014;47(8):542-547
Objective To establish a multi-drug resistant model of temporal lobe epilepsy and observe the effect of hippocampal stimulation on pharmacoresistant epileptic rats and its possible mechanism with the use of indexes including after discharges (AD) of the amygdalae, the stimulus-induced seizures and the extracellular levels of γ-aminobutyrate (GABA).Methods Totally,120 Wistar rats were used for the amygdaloid kindled model of epilepsy by chronic stimulation of amygaloid basal lateral nucleus.Based on the successful kindled model of epilepsy,we selected the pharmacoresistant and pharmacosensitive epileptic rats according to their response to phenobabital and phenytoin. We then divided the pharmacoresistant epileptic rats into the hippocampal stimulation group and control group, with 8 rats in each group.Low-frequency stimulus was conducted for two weeks in the hippocampal stimulation group. The hippocampus extracellular fluid collected by microdialysis was then used to determine the levels of GABA by a high performance liquid chromatography method after hippocampal stimulation. Results The stimulus-induced seizures were inhibited significantly, and the frequency of the AD was decreased,as well as the amplitude, compared with the control group. The extracellular level of GABA in the 8:00-9:00 am and the 8:00-9:00 pm was (32.69 ± 7.80) and (35.76 ± 6.27) μg/ml,respectively,both significantly increased as compared with the control ((26.58 ± 6.87) μg/ml,t =-21.45,P =0.000 ; (31.50 ± 4.87) μg/ml,t =-15.74,P =0.000).Conclusions The low-frequency hippocampal stimulation inhibits the seizures of the kindled model of epilepsy and decreases the frequency, the amplitude,as well as the duration of the amygdale AD in the pharmacoresistant epileptic rats, which may be contributed to the increased GABA content in extracellular fluid of the brain after stimulation.
