Monotropein is a compound classified into iridoid which is found in herbaceous plants Morindae officinalis. It possesses anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-osteoarthritic activities. Previous study indicates that monotropein may have the potential to combat cardiovascular disease, although the related mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we constructed the model of atherosclerosis by oxidized low density lipoprotein-induced vascular smooth muscle cells and LDLR –/–mice given high-fat diet to investigate the effects of monotropein on atherosclerosis. Our results showed that monotropein treatment significantly reduced the area of atherosclerotic plaques and necrotic cores in mice, inhibited the proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells, and reduced inflammatory responses and oxidative stress, which in turn alleviated atherosclerosis. In addition, we found that monotropein reduced the expression levels of P-NF-κB and P-AP-1. In conclusion, our data suggest that monotropein inhibited the proliferation and migration of vascular smooth muscle cells by mediating the activity of NF-κB, AP-1, reducing the level of inflammation and oxidative stress, and thus resisting the development of atherosclerosis. These findings demonstrate the efficacious therapeutic impact of monotropein on atherosclerosis and elucidate its specific target.

Oral diseases concern almost every individual and are a serious health risk to the popula-tion.The restorative treatment of tooth and jaw defects is an important means to achieve oral function and support the appearance of the contour.Based on the principle of"learning from the nature",Deng Xu-liang's group of Peking University School and Hospital of Stomatology has proposed a new concept of"microstructural biomimetic design and tissue adaptation of tooth/jaw materials"to address the worldwide problems of difficulty in treating dentine hypersensitivity, poor prognosis of restoration of tooth defects, and vertical bone augmentation of alveolar bone after tooth loss. The group has broken through the bottle-neck of multi-stage biomimetic technology from the design of microscopic features to the enhancement of macroscopic effects, and invented key technologies such as crystalline/amorphous multi-level assembly,ion-transportation blocking, and multi-physical properties of the micro-environment reconstruction, etc. The group also pioneered the cationic-hydrogel desensitizer, digital stump and core integrated restora-tions,and developed new crown and bridge restorative materials, gradient functionalisation guided tissue regeneration membrane, and electrically responsive alveolar bone augmentation restorative membranes, etc. These products have established new clinical strategies for tooth/jaw defect repair and achieved inno-vative results. In conclusion, the research results of our group have strongly supported the theoretical im-provement of stomatology, developed the technical system of oral hard tissue restoration, innovated the clinical treatment strategy, and led the progress of the stomatology industry.

Objective:To explore the clinical phenotype and genetic etiology for a Chinese pedigree affected with Autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD).Methods:A pedigree with ADPKD diagnosed at the Department of Gynaecology of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University in December 2020 was selected as the study subject. Clinical data of the pedigree was collected, and whole exome sequencing (WES) was carried out for the proband. Candidate variants were verified by Sanger sequencing of the proband and her relatives. This study was approved by the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University (Ethics No. KS-2018-KY-36).Results:Fetal ultrasonography showed increased volume and parenchymal echogenicity in both kidneys. The fetus was found to harbor c. 11098C>T (p.R3700C) and c.11039T>C (p.F3680S) compound heterozygous variants of the PKD1 gene, which were respectively inherited from its mother and father. Based on the guidelines from the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG), both variants were predicted to be likely pathogenic (PM1+ PM2_Supporting+ PP3). Conclusion:The c. 11098C>T (p.R3700C) and c. 11039T>C (p.F3680S) compound heterozygous variants of the PKD1 gene probably underlay the ADPKD in the fetus. Above finding has provided guidance for the genetic counseling and prenatal diagnosis for this pedigree.

Comprehensively improving the new efficiency of high-quality development of public hospitals is the key top-level design for deepening the reform of public hospitals during the"14th Five-Year Plan"period. In view of the changes in the macro environment faced by public hospitals in recent years, such as the cancellation of the addi-tion of pharmaceutical consumables and the deep promotion of the reform of payment methods,as well as the out-standing problems existing at the micro level of public hospital operation, such as the separation of diagnosis and treatment business from economic operation activities, extensive decision-making methods, unreasonable alloca-tion of resources and urgent optimization of processes.By referring to relevant theories such as value management theory,a new"trinity"public hospital lean operation management model based on"integration of industry and fi-nance,lean operation and evidence-based decision-making"is explored and constructed. It breaks the relatively parallel operation barriers of clinical diagnosis and treatment business and economic operation management, innovates a new method of linear staff management with the integration of industry and finance, gives full play to the role of experts in governing hospitals, and integrates the professional committee system driven by"technology+manage-men"into the hospital decision-making staff system to provide data evidence-based basis for assisting the hospital leadership to make scientific decisions.

Cerium oxide nanoparticles (CeO2 NPs), as the oxides of the most abundant elements in rare earths, have been widely used in biomedical and industrial production and other fields that are closely related to human life. China is a large country in resources and production of rare earth, and the impact of CeO2 NPs on human health has been increasingly concerned. In response to the possible health risks of CeO2 NPs, researchers begin to focus on their toxic effects on living organisms, especially on the reproductive system. The male reproductive system is not only responsible for producing sperm and regulating the secretion of testosterone, but also plays a key role in maintaining male sexual characters and function. Any adverse effects on the male reproductive system may lead to reduced fertility and reproductive dysfunction. Some studies have shown that long-term exposure to CeO2 NPs may lead to gonadal damage, sex hormone disorders, and other problems in male animals. Therefore, an in-depth study of the potential effects of CeO2 NPs on the male reproductive system is of great scientific significance and practical value. In this study, we reviewed the male reproductive toxicity of CeO2 NPs in terms of spermatogenic cells, spermatozoa structure, blood-testis barrier, hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, and functional changes in epididymis, and analyzed the effects of the size and shape of physicochemical parameters of CeO2 NPs on the toxicity to male reproductive system. The findings will provide a theoretical basis and scientific evidence for the rational use of CeO2 NPs.
