Micro/nanoplastics (MNPs), recognized as emerging environmental pollutants, are widely distributed in natural environments. Due to their small particle size and significant migratory capacity, MNPs can infiltrate diverse environmental matrices, then invade and accumulate in the organism via the skin, respiration, and digestion. Recently, concerns have grown over the detrimental effects and potential toxicity of MNPs on reproductive health. This review summarized published epidemiological and toxicological studies related to MNPs exposure and their effects on reproductive health. Firstly, this review critically examined the current landscape of epidemiological evidence and found that MNPs (e.g., polystyrene, polypropylene, polyvinyl chloride, polyethylene, etc.) are present in various biological specimens from both males and females, and their presence may be associated with an increased risk of reproductive disorders. Secondly, extensive toxicological studies revealed that MNPs exposure induces reproductive health damage through mechanisms such as disrupting the microstructure of reproductive organs and altering molecular-level expressions. Oxidative stress, inflammatory responses, and apoptosis are identified as potential links between MNPs exposure and reproductive damage. Finally, this review addressed the prevalent shortcomings in existing studies and proposed future directions to tackle the challenges posed by MNPs-induced reproductive harm. These insights aim to inform strategies for safeguarding public reproductive health and ecological security, providing a scientific foundation for mitigating risks associated with MNPs pollution.

Objective: To explore the relationship between nuclear factor-kappa B subunit 1 (NFKB1) and LIM-homeobox gene 2 (LHX2) polymorphisms and esophageal cancer susceptibility, so as to provide the reference for the prevention and treatment of esophageal cancer. Methods: A total of 100 patients with primary esophageal cancer diagnosed at the Affiliated Tumor Hospital of Xinjiang Medical University from 2019 to 2023 were selected as the case group, and 100 healthy individuals undergoing physical examination during the same period of time were selected as the control group. Demographic information, disease history and lifestyle data were collected through questionnaire surveys. The single nucleotide polymorphisms at the rs28362491 and rs4648068 loci of NFKB1 gene as well as rs10760310 and rs10121751 loci of LHX2 gene were detected using multiplex high-temperature ligase detection reaction technology. The relationship between these loci and esophageal cancer susceptibility were analyzed using a multivariable conditional logistic regression, linkage disequilibrium and haplotype analysis. The impact of the interaction between the above-mentioned loci and environmental factors on esophageal cancer susceptibility using the generalized multifactor dimensionality reduction (GMDR) method. Results: The case group comprised 73 males and 27 females, with a mean age of (64.02±8.90) years. The control group included 73 males and 27 females, with a mean age of (64.54±9.43) years. The genotype distributions of rs28362491, rs4648068, rs10760310 and rs10121751, loci in both groups conformed to Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium (all P>0.05). Multivariable conditional logistic regression analysis showed that rs10760310 and rs10121751 loci of LHX2 gene were associated with the esophageal cancer susceptibility (both P<0.05). The overdominant model of rs10760310 loci of LHX2 gene had the lowest Akaike information criterion value (OR=0.22, 95%CI: 0.10-0.47). GAA haplotypes at rs4648068, rs10760310 and rs10121751 loci were associated with a lower risk of esophageal cancer susceptibility (OR=0.26, 95%CI: 0.13-0.50). GMDR analysis revealed a statistically significant interaction between rs10760310 loci and smoking on esophageal cancer susceptibility (P<0.05, cross-validation consistency coefficient: 10/10). Conclusion The rs10760310 and rs10121751 loci polymorphisms of LHX2 gene may be associated with esophageal cancer susceptibility, and there is an interaction between rs10760310 loci and smoking on the esophageal cancer susceptibility.

Dendritic cells (DCs) serve as the primary antigen-presenting cells in autoimmune diseases, like rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and exhibit distinct signaling profiles due to antigenic diversity. Type II collagen (CII) has been recognized as an RA-specific antigen; however, little is known about CII-stimulated DCs, limiting the development of RA-specific therapeutic interventions. In this study, we show that CII-stimulated DCs display a preferential gene expression profile associated with migration, offering a new perspective for targeting DC migration in RA treatment. Then, saikosaponin D (SSD) was identified as a compound capable of blocking CII-induced DC migration and effectively ameliorating arthritis. Optineurin (OPTN) is further revealed as a potential SSD target, with Optn deletion impairing CII-pulsed DC migration without affecting maturation. Function analyses uncover that OPTN prevents the proteasomal transport and ubiquitin-dependent degradation of C-C chemokine receptor 7 (CCR7), a pivotal chemokine receptor in DC migration. Optn-deficient DCs exhibit reduced CCR7 expression, leading to slower migration in CII-surrounded environment, thus alleviating arthritis progression. Our findings underscore the significance of antigen-specific DC activation in RA and suggest OPTN is a crucial regulator of CII-specific DC migration. OPTN emerges as a promising drug target for RA, potentially offering significant value for the therapeutic management of RA.

OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate the incidence, imaging characteristics, and clinical manifestations of the eruption failure of deciduous molars using panoramic radiographs to provide a foundation for diagnosis and treatment in this population. METHODS: This study retrospectively reviewed panoramic radiographs of children aged 4-8 years obtained from Stomatology Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine between January 2021 and December 2023. A total of 31 331 subjects were included for the radiographic assessment of the tooth eruption failure of deciduous molars. Incidence, radiographic characteristics, and associated complications were documented. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 26.0. RESULTS: The incidence of the eruption failure of deciduous molars among children aged 4-8 years was 0.94% (296/31 331). The rate was 1.55 times higher in females than in males, demonstrating a significant gender difference (P<0.001). Among the affected deciduous molars, mandibular first deciduous molars accounted for 76.4%, followed by the mandibular second deciduous molars (13.8%), and the maxillary deciduous molars collectively comprised 9.8%. The severity of eruption disorders was significantly associated with the mesial and distal tilting of adjacent teeth and elongation of the antagonist (P<0.001). CONCLUSIONS The incidence of the eruption failure of deciduous molars in children aged 4-8 years was 0.94%, with a high prevalence in females and a predilection for the mandible, particularly the mandibular first deciduous molar. For deciduous molars with severe eruption failure, early intervention is crucial to mitigate complications such as malocclusion and space loss.

Objective To investigate the clinical effects and pregnancy outcomes of using luteal phase long protocol and GnRH antagonist protocol in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS)who have failed their first GnRH antagonist protocol therapy.Methods The clinical data of 163 PCOS patients who underwent IVF/ICSI-ET were retrieved.After the failure of their first GnRH antagonist protocol treatment,they were divided into two groups in the second controlled ovarian hyperstimulation(COH)cycle:Luteal phase long protocol group(n=95)and Gn-RH antagonist protocol group(n=68).A retrospective analysis and comparison of basic clinical data,clinical and laboratory indicators,and pregnancy outcomes between two groups were conducted.Results ① There was no sta-tistically significant difference in basic clinical indicators between two group except LH.② Compared the first and second cycle treatments of patients in the luteal phase long protocol group,the initiation dose of gonadotropin(Gn),total number of Gn days,total Gn usage,estradiol(E2)on the day of hCG injection,number of retrieved eggs,oocyte maturation rate,2PN fertilization rate,2PN cleavage rate,blastocyst formation rate,high-quality blas-tocyst formation rate,and moderate to severe OHSS rate were significantly higher than those in the first GnRH an-tagonist cycle(P＜0.05).The GnRH antagonist protocol group also showed similar improvements.③ The com-parison of the second COH cycle between two groups showed that the total number of Gn days,total Gn usage,and total Gn cost in the luteal phase long protocol group were significantly higher(P＜0.05),while the E2 and LH on the day of hCG injection,and the maturation rate of eggs were significantly lower than those in the GnRH antagonist protocol group(P＜0.05).However,there was no statistically significant difference in the number of retrieved eggs,2PN fertilization,2PN cleavage,blastocyst formation rate,high-quality blastocyst formation rate,and OHSS rate between the two groups;④ The comparison of fresh transplantation cycles for the second COH cycle between the two groups showed that the luteal phase long protocol fresh transplantation rate,implantation rate,clinical preg-nancy rate,and live birth rate were slightly higher than those of the GnRH antagonist protocol group,but the differ-ence was not statistically significant.Comparing the outcomes of pregnancy following the initial frozen-thawed em-bryo transfer(FET)between two groups,the biochemical pregnancy rate and clinical pregnancy rate of the GnRH antagonist protocol group were higher than those of the luteal phase long protocol group(P＜0.05).However,no significant statistical variations were found in implantation rate,live birth rate,neonatal gestational age,and birth weight.Conclusion For PCOS patients who fail the first GnRH antagonist protocol,an appropriate increase in the initiating dose and usage of Gn can achieve satisfactory pregnancy outcomes with both protocols.Compared with change to a luteal phase long protocol,reusing the GnRH antagonist protocol still maintains its long-standing advan-tages,such as shorter total Gn days,lower costs,and better patient compliance.

ObjectiveTo provide a basis for human enteroviruses prevention and control by monitoring the enterovirus （EV） and its main virus types. MethodsSamples of hand-foot-and-mouth disease， herpetic angina and fever clinic patients in Dapeng New District of Shenzhen from 2016 to 2022 were tested for EV with real-time polymerase chain reaction （PCR）. To identify the isolates of EV， VP1 genes of EV were amplified with nested reverse transcription PCR， and then sequenced.A geneticphylogenetic tree was constructed based on the VP1 gene. ResultsAmong the 1 124 suspected hand-foot-and-mouth disease cases， 740 （65.84%） tested EV positive. Coxsackievirus A6 （CVA6） and Coxsackievirus A16 （CVA16） were the main two serotypes with regular cycle trends. Of the 137 suspected herpetic angina cases， 88 （64.23%） were EV positive， with Coxsackievirus A4 （CVA4） and CVA16 as the dominant serotypes. Among 428 respiratory infection specimens， 71 （16.59%） were EV positive. Coxsackievirus A4 （CVA4） was the predominant serotype which caused herpetic angina and respiratory infection. The epidemic EV isolates CVA6 from Shenzhen had a close genetic relationship with isolates in China’s mainland. ConclusionThe main serotypes EV CVA6 and CVA16 which caused hand-foot-and-mouth disease exhibit cyclical trends . The risk of EV transmitted from abroad is low， but their genetic variation and virulence change should be monitored continuously. In addition， the monitoring of dominant isolates CVA4 which cause herpetic angina and respiratory infection should be strengthened.

Regional odontodysplasia (ROD) is a rare localized dental developmental anomaly. The typical clinical manifestations of ROD are abnormal tooth eruption, abnormal development of enamel and dentin. The radiographic characteristic is "ghost teeth". Its etiology still remains unknown. The care and treatment of a patient with ROD needs a multidisciplinary approach. And the treatment should be taken after the assessment of each individual case of ROD. This paper reviews the definition, etiology, epidemiological features, clinical manifestations, imaging features, dental microstructure and treatment strategies of ROD to provide reference for clinical diagnosis and treatment.

BACKGROUND:Overactive osteoclasts disrupt bone homeostasis and play a bad role in the pathological mechanisms of related skeletal diseases,such as osteoporosis,fragility fractures,and osteoarthritis.Studies have confirmed that ellagic acid and ellagtannin have the potential to inhibit osteoclast differentiation.As their natural metabolites,urolithin A has antioxidant,anti-inflammatory,anti-proliferative and anti-cancer effects,but its effect on osteoclast differentiation and its underlying molecular mechanisms remain unclear. OBJECTIVE:To explore the effect of urolithin A on osteoclast differentiation induced by receptor activator for nuclear factor-κB ligand and its mechanism. METHODS:Mouse mononuclear macrophage leukemia cells(RAW264.7)that grew stably were cultured in vitro.Toxicity of urolithin A(0,0.1,0.5,1.5,2.5 μmol/L)to RAW264.7 cells were detected by cytotoxic MTS assay to screen out the safe concentration.Different concentrations of urolithin A were used again to intervene with receptor activator for nuclear factor-κB ligand-induced differentiation of RAW264.7 cells in vitro.Then,tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase staining and F-actin ring and nucleus staining were performed to observe its effect on the formation and function of osteoclasts.Finally,the expressions of urolithin A on upstream and downstream genes and proteins in the MAPK signaling pathway were observed by western blot and RT-qPCR assays. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:Urolithin A inhibited osteoclast differentiation and F-actin ring formation in a concentration-dependent manner and 2.5 μmol/L had the strongest inhibitory effect.Urolithin A inhibited the mRNA expression of Nfatc1,Ctsk,Mmp9 and Atp6v0d2 and the protein synthesis of Nfatc1 and Ctsk,related to osteoclast formation and bone resorption.Urolithin A inhibited the activity of osteoclasts by downregulating the phosphorylation of p38 protein to inhibit the mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling pathway.

Objective:To investigate the current status of vocational training for pediatric clinical research coordinators (CRC), and discuss the construction of base-based pediatric CRC training, and to promote the ability of pediatric CRCs.Methods:From July 25 to October 16, 2023, an anonymous self-designed questionnaire survey was conducted through the Wenjuanxing platform to investigate the current situation of pediatric CRC vocational training and base training needs. The data were collated using Excel. Categorical data were described as numbers and percentages.Results:A total of 328 usable questionnaires were returned. Only 7.62% (25 people) believed that existing CRC training was sufficient and could meet actual work needs; 4.88% (16 people) responded that there was no training; 46.34% (152 people) believed that the training was insufficient to support actual work needs; 87.50% (287 people) believed that continuous CRC training was needed; 46.95% (154 people) preferred experienced CRCs for teaching, who should have at least 3 years of CRC work experience; and 46.95% (154 people) preferred a duration of 3 months for CRC training. The preferred training methods were: practice under the direction of experienced CRCs (90.85%, 298 people), step-by-step teaching of practical skills (88.41%, 290 people), case analysis and discussion (87.20%, 286 people), process simulation (83.23%, 273 people), and lecture-based teaching (76.52%, 251 people). The preferred post-training assessment methods were: case analysis (76.52%, 251 people), operation simulation (74.09%, 243 people), process simulation (73.17%, 240 people), written examination (66.16%, 217 people), and interview (63.72%, 209 people).Conclusions:The current pediatric CRC training is not enough to meet actual work needs. It is urgent to develop and promote a CRC training system that can meet work needs, laying the foundation for the construction of pediatric clinical research ecology in China.

Objective To investigate the microbiota composition and diversity between autogenous and anautogenous Culex pipiens pallens, so as to provide insights into unraveling the pathogenesis of autogeny in Cx. pipiens pallens. Methods Autogenous and anautogenous adult Cx. pipiens pallens samples were collected at 25 ℃, and the hypervariable regions of the microbial 16S ribosomal RNA (16S rRNA) gene was sequenced on the Illumina NovaSeq 6000 sequencing platform. The microbiota abundance and diversity were evaluated using the alpha diversity index, and the difference in the microbiota structure was examined using the beta diversity index. The microbiota with significant differences in the abundance between autogenous and anautogenous adult Cx. pipiens pallens samples was identified using the linear discriminant analysis effect size (LEfSe). Results The microbiota in autogenous and anautogenous Cx. pipiens pallens samples belonged to 18 phyla, 28 classes, 70 orders, 113 families, and 170 genera, and the dominant phyla included Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes, and so on. At the genus level, Wolbachia was a common dominant genus, and the relative abundance was (77.6 ± 11.3)% in autogenous Cx. pipiens pallens samples and (47.5 ± 8.5)% in anautogenous mosquito samples, while Faecalibaculum (0.4% ± 0.1%), Dubosiella (0.5% ± 0.0%) and Massilia (0.5% ± 0.1%) were specific species in autogenous Cx. pipiens pallens samples. Alpha diversity analysis showed that higher Chao1 index and ACE index in autogenous Cx. pipiens pallens samples than in anautogenous samples (both P values > 0.05), and lower Shannon index (P > 0.05) and Simpson index (P < 0.05) in autogenous Cx. pipiens pallens samples than in anautogenous samples. LEfSe analysis showed a total of 48 significantly different taxa between autogenous and anautogenous Cx. pipiens pallens samples (all P values < 0.05). Conclusion There is a significant difference in the microbiota diversity between autogenous and anautogenous Cx. pipiens pallens.
