1.The regulatory role of the RUS family in plant growth and development.

The chloroplast genome encodes many key proteins involved in photosynthesis and other metabolic processes, and metabolites synthesized in chloroplasts are essential for normal plant growth and development. Root-UVB (ultraviolet radiation B)-sensitive (RUS) family proteins composed of highly conserved DUF647 domain belong to chloroplast proteins. They play an important role in the regulation of various life activities such as plant morphogenesis, material transport and energy metabolism. This article summarizes the recent advances of the RUS family proteins in the growth and development of plants such as embryonic development, photomorphological construction, VB6 homeostasis, auxin transport and anther development, with the aim to facilitate further study of its molecular regulation mechanism in plant growth and development.

2.Effects of Combination of 1,25(OH) 2D 3 and TLR-4 Inhibitor on the Damage to HaCaT Cells Caused by UVB Irradiation.

OBJECTIVE:
Vitamin D and Toll-like receptor-4 (TLR-4) inhibition are involved in the protection of keratinocytes. The effects of combination of 1,25(OH) 2D 3 and TLR-4 inhibitor on the protection of keratinocytes against ultraviolet radiation B (UVB) irradiation remain unclear. This study was undertaken to explore the effects of combination of 1,25(OH) 2D 3 and TAK-242 (TLR-4 inhibitor) on the damage to HaCaT cells caused by UVB irradiation.
METHODS:
In vitro, HaCaT cells were treated with 1,25(OH) 2D 3 or/and TAK-242 prior to UVB irradiation at the intensity of 20 mJ/cm 2, then the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS), cell migration, apoptosis of cells, and the expression of oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and apoptosis related proteins were determined.
RESULTS:
Compared with the HaCaT cells treated with 1,25(OH) 2D 3 or TAK-242, the cells treated with both 1,25(OH) 2D 3 and TAK-242 showed, 1) significantly lower production of ROS ( P < 0.05); 2) significantly less apoptosis of HaCaT cells ( P < 0.05); 3) significantly lower expression of NF- κB, Caspase-8, Cyto-C, Caspase-3 ( P < 0.05).
CONCLUSION
The combination of 1,25(OH) 2D 3 and TAK-242 could produce a better protection for HaCaT cells via inhibiting the oxidative stress, endoplasmic reticulum stress and apoptosis than 1,25(OH) 2D 3 or TAK-242 alone.

3.Strengthening scientific and technological support for health adaptation action to climate change under the 'double carbon' goal.

With the global climate change process is accelerating, China is facing great challenges. It is urgent to carry out scientific study, aiming at the major needs of health adaptation action to climate change under the 'double carbon' target. This special issue on Climate Change and Health highlights and reports on China's latest scientific findings in this field. The health risks of non-optimal temperature, drought, ultraviolet radiation and other meteorological factors and cold spells in China are clarified, and the research methods of health risk early warning of heat waves are summarized. Future researches need to further elucidate the scientific evidence of the impact of meteorological factors and extreme weather events on population health in China systematically. Focus on innovating and developing technical methods and tools such as health risk early warning models. Accelerate the transformation and application of relevant scientific and technological achievements in China. 4.The Association of Socioeconomic Status with the Burden of Cataract-related Blindness and the Effect of Ultraviolet Radiation Exposure: An Ecological Study.

Objective:
To assess the association of socioeconomic status with the burden of cataract blindness in terms of year lived with disability (YLD) rates and to determine whether ultraviolet radiation (UVR) levels modify the effect of socioeconomic status on this health burden.
Methods:
National and subnational age-standardized YLD rates associated with cataract-related blindness were derived from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study 2017. The human development index (HDI) from the Human Development Report was used as a measure of socioeconomic status. Estimated ground-level UVR exposure was obtained from the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) dataset of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
Results:
Across 185 countries, socioeconomic status was inversely associated with the burden of cataract blindness. Countries with a very high HDI had an 84% lower age-standardized YLD rate [95% confidence interval (

Long-term high-UVR exposure amplifies the association of poor socioeconomic status with the burden of cataract-related blindness. The findings emphasize the need for strengthening UVR exposure protection interventions in developing countries with high-UVR exposure.

6.UV protection for young athletes: using participatory program planning to develop a sports schools program.

BACKGROUND:
The incidence of melanoma increased rapidly throughout the last decades, with overexposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation being an established risk factor. Due to their intensive sun exposure, many student athletes (SAs) have an increased risk for skin cancer. The Clever in Sun and Shade Program (CSSP) aims at enforcing positive attitudes toward UV protection (UVP) and at supporting sports schools in establishing UVP strategies.
METHODS:
CSSP was developed in 2019 using participatory program planning (PPP) as well as following WHO recommendations for UVP at schools. After drafting first material, within a PPP groups were conducted at a partner school (convenience sample 1) with students (n = 20), teachers (n = 5), school administration (n = 2), and coaches (n = 5). Materials were then adapted. Program acceptance and feasibility were tested at two further schools (convenience sample 2) with PPP groups of students (n = 95) and school administration (n = 2). Content analyses and descriptive statistics were conducted.
RESULTS:
Less than 50% of SAs and coaches of sample 1 expressed positive attitudes toward UVP, less than 10% reported appropriate UVP behavior. By using PPP, program material was adapted to the target groups' needs, i.e., by including specific barriers and solutions. Only the most accepted video drafts were produced. The majority of SAs of sample 2 (80-86%) used predominantly positive adjectives such as "important" and "positive" to describe the completed videos and the behavior self-check poster.
CONCLUSIONS
PPP process has greatly influenced concept and materials of CSSP for sports schools. Integration of future program participants has proven to be an important component in creating a fitting and feasible program. CSSP for sports schools is a program free of charge that enables sports schools to integrate UVP into their daily routine. It will be disseminated in cooperation with German Olympic Sports Confederation and German Cancer Aid in 2021.

7.Ganoderic acid A protects lens epithelial cells from UVB irradiation and delays lens opacity.

A contributory role of oxidative stress and protection by antioxidant nutrients have been suspected in cataract formation. Ganoderic acid A (GAA), an effective lanostane triterpene, is widely reported as an antioxidant. The aim of this study is to investigate the potential effects of GAA on cataract formation. After lens epithelial cells (LECs) were exposed to UVB radiation for different periods, cell viability, apoptosis-related protein levels, malondialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities were monitored. We found that cell viability, the Bcl-2/Bax ratio and SOD activity were increased, while Cleaved caspase-3 levels and MDA activity were decreased compared with those in UVB-impaired LECs after GAA treated. Furthermore, GAA activated PI3K/AKT in UVB-impaired LECs and effectively delayed the occurrence of lens opacity in vitro. In conclusion, these findings demonstrated that GAA exhibited protective functions in SRA01/04 cells and rat lenses against UVB-evoked impairment through elevating cell viability and antioxidant activity, inhibiting cell apoptosis, activating the PI3K/AKT pathway and delaying lens opacity.

8.Strategies for medicinal plants adapting environmental stress and "simulative habitat cultivation" of Dao-di herbs.

This paper analyzed life form, habitats and environmental stresses of medicinal plants and algal fungi collected in Chinese Pharmacopoeia(2015). ①It was found that only 0.94% of the medicinal plants mainly cultivated in field. The most common habitats of medicinal plants are divided into two types: those whose natural habitats are forest margins/undergrowth(about 42.53%) and those whose natural habitats are roadside, hillside, wasteland/sand(about 43.78%). The former mainly faces environmental stresses such as weak light, pests and diseases; the latter often faces the main environmental stresses of drought, strong light, ultraviolet radiation, high temperature, low temperature(day and night or annual temperature difference is large), nutrient deficiency, pests and so on. ②Based on analyzing the strategies of medicinal plants to adapt to environmental stresses, it is pointed out that the synthesis and accumulation of secondary metabolites are the most important strategies of medicinal plants to protect against environmental stresses. In the process of long-term adaptation to specific stress, the accumulation of relevant genetic variation and epigenetic inheritance has become an important condition for the formation of quality of medicinal plants. ③It is proposed that "simulative habitat cultivation" has obvious advantages in balancing growth and secondary metabolism and guaranting the quality of traditional Chinese medicinal materials.

9.Determination of UV-327 and UV-328 in mouse plasma by high performance liquid chromatography.

OBJECTIVE:
To establish a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method for the determination of ultraviolet (UV) absorbers UV-327 and UV-328 in mouse plasma.
METHODS:
N-hexane-acetone (volume ratio 1 ∶1) was added to a mouse plasma sample as the extraction solvent for vortex extraction, and the supernatant was dried at 50 ℃ with nitrogen. Thereafter the residue was redissolved with methanol, centrifuged and filtered. The separation was performed on a Waters SymmetryC18 column (250 mm×4.6 mm, 5 μm), and the concentrations of UV-327 and UV-328 in the mouse plasma were determined by HPLC with an UV detector. The elution was isocratic at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min with a mobile phase composed of 100% methanol, and the UV detection wavelength was 340 nm. The retention time was used for qualitative analysis, and the internal standard method was used for quantitative analysis using UV-320 as the internal standard.
RESULTS:
The calibration curves of UV-327 and UV-328 were linear with correlation coefficients of 0.999 7 over the concentration range of 0.05 to 10.0 mg/L. The limit of detection was 0.01 mg/L, and the limit of quantitation was 0.03 mg/L. The average recoveries at low, medium and high three concentrations (0.50, 1.00, 2.00 mg/L) in the mouse plasma were 91.7%-101.0% for UV-327, and 97.5%-103.9% for UV-328. The intra-day precisions (n=6) of UV-327 were 2.9%-6.6%, and 2.7%-7.4% for UV-328. The inter-day precisions (n=3) of UV-327 were 6.0%-9.3%, and 6.6%-8.6% for UV-328. The extraction recoveries of UV-327 were 98.8%-103.8%, and 99.8%-100.9% for UV-328. The measured relative deviations of UV-327 in the mouse plasma samples placed at room temperature for 6 hours and -40 ℃ for 15 days were 0.9%-3.5% and 7.4%-15.0%, and the measured relative deviations of UV-328 were 2.0%-4.3% and 2.1%-13.8%, respectively. The mouse plasma samples could be stored at room temperature for 6 hours at least and -40 ℃ for 15 days at three spiked concentration levels.
CONCLUSION
The method was simple and fast with high accuracy, precision and sensitivity, and could be applied to the determination of UV-327 and UV-328 in mouse plasma.

10.Preventive effect and mechanism of ultrafine powder of Dendrobium candidum on photoaging model mice.

Chinese herbal medicine ultrafine powder has become a research hotspot for the addition of cosmetic raw materials. Dendrobium candidum is a traditional Chinese herbal medicine. Its extract and stem extract are already cosmetic raw materials and its water extract has the effect of preventing photoaging,but D. candidum ultrafine powder has not been accepted as a raw material for cosmetics,and no relevant research on photoaging prevention has been reported. In this experiment,the ultra-fine powder and fine powder of D. candidum to prevent photoaging were observed and compared,and its mechanism of action was discussed to provide a basis for the prevention of skin photoaging products. Seventy-two female ICR mice were randomly divided into normal group,model group,solvent group,titanium dioxide(Ti O2) group,isooctyl salicylate(2-ES) group,D. candidum ultrafine powder 1(DP1),ultrafine powder 2(DP2) and fine powder(DP3) groups. The photoaging model was established by ultraviolet irradiation for 8 weeks,and the model was intervened while modeling. The skin wrinkle grade,elastic parameters,skin microcirculation blood flow,skin structure and pathological changes(skin thickness,skin collagen fiber,elastic fiber) were observed,the skin transforming growth factor-β1(TGF-β1),Smad3 levels were determined,and the type Ⅰ and type Ⅲ collagen,matrix metalloproteinase-1(MMP-1),activated protein-1(AP-1),VEGF expression were detected. The results showed that ultrafine powder(DP1,DP2) significantly reduced the wrinkle level and skin blood flow of the model mice(P<0. 05,P<0. 01); DP1,DP2 and DP3 could significantly reduce the thickness of the epidermis(P<0. 001),improve collagen fiber,elastic fiber hyperplasia,and distortion and decrease VEGF expression,and DP1 is better than DP2 and DP3; each group could up-regulate type Ⅰ collagen,down-regulate type Ⅲ collagen,AP-1,MMP-1 protein expression,and DP1 improvement optimal. However,it has no obvious effect on TGF-β1 and Smad3. The ultrafine powder and fine powder of D. candidum have certain preventive effect on photoaging,and the effect of ultrafine powder is better than that of fine powder. Ultrafine powder may down-regulate the expression of type Ⅲ collagen,AP-1 and MMP-1 by up-regulating type Ⅰ collagen. Inhibition of collagen degradation plays a role in preventing photoaging.
