1.Health literacy prediction models based on machine learning methods: a scoping review

Objective:
To conduct a scoping review on the types, construction methods and predictive performance of health literacy prediction models based on machine learning methods, so as to provide the reference for the improvement and application of such models.
Methods:
Publications on health literacy prediction models conducted using machine learning methods were retrieved from CNKI, Wanfang Data, VIP, PubMed and Web of Science from inception to May 1, 2024. The quality of literature was assessed using the Prediction Model Risk of Bias ASsessment Tool. Basic characteristics, modeling methods, data sources, missing value handling, predictors and predictive performance were reviewed.
Results:
A total of 524 publications were retrieved, and 22 publications between 2007 and 2024 were finally enrolled. Totally 48 health literacy prediction models were involved, and 25 had a high risk of bias (52.08%), with major issues focusing on missing value handling, predictor selection and model evaluation methods. Modeling methods included regression models, tree-based machine learning methods, support vector machines and neural network models. Predictors primarily encompassed factors at four aspects: individual, interpersonal, organizational and society/policy aspects, with age, educational level, economic status, health status and internet use appearing frequently. Internal validation was conducted in 14 publications, and external validation was conducted in 4 publications. Forty-two models reported the areas under the receiver operating characteristic curve, which ranged from 0.52 to 0.983, indicating good discrimination.
Conclusion
Health literacy prediction models based on machine learning methods perform well, but have deficiencies in risk of bias, data processing and validation.
2.Progress in research on health literate schools

Abstract
Health literate schools (HeLit-Schools) play a significant role in fostering students health literacy. The paper elucidates the background and conceptual connotations of HeLit-Schools, and analyzes how HeLit-Schools effectively integrate and enhance the health literacy of schools in three aspects: philosophy and core drivers, strategy and method implementation, as well as evaluation mechanisms and standard setting. Furthermore, the paper explores the implications of foreign HeLit-Schools research and practice for China under the context of "Healthy China" construction, as well as the key strategies for Chinese schools in the implementation of HeLit-Schools, aiming to provide a new perspective and theoretical support for Chinese schools to practice the "Healthy China initiative" and strengthen school construction from the perspective of health literacy.

Abstract
As dietary issues of children and adolescents become increasingly complex, the assessment of food literacy (FL) is increasingly importance. FL involves a comprehensive cognition and practical ability concerning food among children, playing a key role in fostering healthy eating habits and improving health levels. The article explores the definition and connotations of FL, and introduces eight FL assessment tools in terms of theoretical foundations, dimensions, assessment methods, and their reliability and validity. Moreover, it provides a comparative analysis of these tools by examining their dimensional design, evaluation indicators, strengths, and weaknesses, as well as their applicable subjects and scenarios, aiming to offer references for implementing relevant policies and developing more comprehensive and effective FL assessment tools.
4.The concept of Health-Literate Schools and implications for China

Abstract
Enhancing the health literacy of the entire population is a prerequisite for improving the health of the entire population, and since the health attitudes and behaviors formed during childhood and adolescence have a profound impact on the health patterns of adulthood, the enhancement of health literacy of children and adolescents is of particular importance. As the main place for children and adolescents to receive education, schools should better fulfil the function of education and promotion of health literacy. China has been carrying out the pilot and promotion of health promoting schools (HPS) since 1995, and is currently in the stage of comprehensive improvement of HPS construction. This paper introduces the background and characteristics of Health-Literate Schools (HeLit-Schools) in foreign countries and compares them with HPS in China, drawing on the advantages of HeLit-Schools to provide a new idea and a new way of thinking for the construction of HPS in China and for the practice of the "Healthy China Initiative".
5.Research progress on evaluation tools for vaccine literacy

Abstract
Vaccine literacy is related to residents' access to and use of vaccine-related information and services, and improving vaccine literacy can enhance vaccine confidence, reduce vaccine hesitancy, and improve vaccination compliance. Carrying out vaccine literacy evaluation is helpful to understand the awareness of and attitudes towards vaccines among residents, and provides the reference for clarifying influencing factors for vaccine literacy and finding a path for vaccine literacy improvement. This paper retrieved the literature related to vaccine literacy evaluation and extracted eight vaccine literacy evaluation tools, including The Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Literacy Questionnaire, Questions on Vaccine Literacy, Vaccine Literacy Scale for Italian adults, COVID-19 Vaccines Literacy Scale, The English HLS19 instrument for measuring Vaccination Health Literacy in the general population, Digital Vaccine Literacy Scale, The Chinese Version of the COVID-19 Vaccine Literacy Scale and Community Residents Vaccine Literacy Scale, and reviewed the evaluation objects, content, reliability, validity and application, providing countermeasures and suggestions for the promotion of vaccine literacy evaluation in China.
6.Impact of hospital health literacy environment on patients′ postoperative pain self-management behaviors

Objective:To explore the impact of the hospital health literacy environment on patients′ postoperative pain self-management behaviors, aiming to provide insights for hospitals to implement the Comprehensive Pain Management Pilot Work Program in hospitals and to promote self-health management among patients with other diseases or symptoms. Methods:From November to December 2023, a convenience sampling method was used to select postoperative patients from three grade A tertiary general hospitals in Zhejiang Province for an on-site questionnaire survey. The Chinese version of brief health literacy screen (BHLS), short-form health literacy environment scale (SF-HLES) and postoperative pain self-management behavior questionnaire (PPSMB) were used as survey tools to investigate the health literacy level of patients, the health literacy environment of the hospital, and the postoperative pain management behaviors of patients. Two-way ANOVA was used to compare the impact of different dimensions of the hospital health literacy environment on postoperative pain management behaviors among patients with different levels of health literacy. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to explore the relationship between the hospital health literacy environment, individual health literacy, and patients′ postoperative pain self-management behaviors, and to discuss the impact of individual health literacy on patients′ postoperative pain self-management behaviors under different hospital health literacy environments.Results:341 valid questionnaires were collected. The average score of the hospitals′ SF-HLES was (73.62±19.54) points. The average score of the patients′ BHLS was (9.65±2.88) points. The average score of the patients′ PPSMB was (25.99±6.35) points. Two-way ANOVA results showed that the interaction between individual health literacy and the clinical dimension ( F=5.463, P=0.020) and structural dimension ( F=6.470, P=0.011) of the hospital health literacy environment had a statistically significant impact on patients′ postoperative pain self-management behaviors, while the interaction with the interpersonal dimension ( F=0, P=0.984) had no statistically significant impact on pain self-management behaviors. Simple effect analysis indicated that only in the high health literacy environment of the clinical and structural dimensions did the difference in pain self-management behaviors between patients with good health literacy and those with limited health literacy had statistical significance ( P<0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis results showed that for each 1-point increase in the patients′ BHLS score, their PPSMB score increased by 3.74 points ( β1=0.832, P<0.001); for each 1-point increase in the hospital′s SF-HLES score, the patients′ PPSMB score could increase by 0.198 points ( β2=0.610, P<0.001). In a low health literacy environment, individual health literacy did not affect pain self-management behaviors ( P>0.05); however, in a high health literacy environment, for each 1-point increase in the patients′ BHLS score, their PPSMB score correspondingly increased by 4.037 points ( β4=0.317, P<0.001). Conclusions:The positive impact of individual health literacy on pain self-management is contingent upon a high-quality hospital health literacy environment. This suggests that optimizing the hospital health literacy environment is a necessary precondition for implementing the relevant content of the Comprehensive Pain Management Pilot Work Program and can provide a reference for promote self-health management among patients with pain and other diseases or symptoms.
7.Research on the concept of hospital health literacy based on proceduralised grounded theory

Objective:To construct the concept and its conceptual framework of hospital health literacy(HHL) for exploring the HHL promotion mechanism in the country.Methods:Based on the proceduralised grounded theory, twelve middle or senior managers of hospitals were selected for in-depth interviews and three hospitals were selected for field research from July 2021 to February 2022. Open coding, axial coding, and selective coding were used in data analysis, establishing the concept of HHL and its conceptual framework in China.Results:The conceptual framework of HHL was composed of an internal driver mechanism(hospitals improve their health literacy promotion management system, staff-led health literacy promotion, health literacy promoting physical environment construction), and an external driver mechanism(cooperate with external organizations and institutions to conduct health literacy promotion). The concept of HHL in China was derived as follows: the combination of supportive environments and human resources that health care organizations have in place can improve access and understandability of health information and simplify healthcare services to help patients of different health literacy levels more easily obtain, process, and understand health information as well as to make the most of medical services.Conclusions:Hospital health literacy promotion mechanism in China is a synergy between internal and external driver mechanisms.
8.An empirical study on comprehensive scoring method for postoperative pain management quality

Objective:To explore whether the comprehensive scoring method of postoperative pain management quality can effectively evaluate the quality of postoperative pain management in hospitals or departments.Methods:Using the purposive sampling method and the convenient sampling method, a total of 9 Orthopedic Departments of 9 hospitals in Zhejiang Province and Jiangsu Province from January to May 2018 were selected as the research objects. According to whether it was a painless ward certified by the hospital, they were divided into the painless ward group (4 departments) and the non-painless ward group (5 departments). The postoperative pain management quality comprehensive scoring method, the weighted rank sum ratio method and the weighted TOPSIS method were used to calculate the scores and rankings of each department. The score differences of different groups were compared, and the correlation analysis of the ranking results of different evaluation methods was carried out.Results:The total score of the first-level index of pain management comprehensive scoring method and the scores of all dimensions in the painless ward were higher than those of the non-painless ward, and the differences were statistically significant (all P<0.05). The scores of environmental and materials, system/guidelines/procedures, pain assessment, analgesia treatment, and analgesic effect in the secondary indicators of pain management comprehensive scoring method in painless wards were higher than those of non-painless wards, and the differences were statistically significant (all P<0.05). The results of three methods for evaluating quality of postoperative pain management in the department were not all the same, but they were positively correlated. The correlation coefficients of postoperative pain management quality comprehensive scoring method, the weighted TOPSIS method and the weighted rank sum ratio method were 0.933 and 0.833 (all P< 0.01) . Conclusions:The comprehensive scoring method of postoperative pain management quality can effectively reflect the pros and cons of postoperative pain management quality in hospitals or departments.
9.Scoping review of health promotion and health education in medical and health institutions in China from 2000 to 2021

Objective:To describe the current situation of health promotion and education in medical and health institutions in China, propose targeted improvement strategies and provide inspiration for medical and health institutions to implement the relevant content of the Health China Action.Methods:We searched China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) , WanFang Data, VIP China Science and Technology Journal Database, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and so on. The retrieval time limit was from January 1, 2000 to December 30, 2021. The search content was the research on the theme of "health promotion and education in medical and health institutions".Results:A total of 20 articles were included. In the research on health promotion and education of medical and health institutions, the studies involved in "organization management" and "health education" were the most ( n=20) . There were 7 studies (35%) related to "smoke-free hospitals", 4 studies (20%) related to "work effect evaluation", and the studies on "healthy environment" was the least (15%, 3/20) . Conclusions:The work experience of attaching importance to organization management and health education, vigorously promoting the construction of smoke-free hospitals and institutions' health environment, and strengthening the effectiveness evaluation of health promotion and education can provide reference for medical and health institutions to implement the relevant content of health promotion in the Health China Action (2019-2030) .

Health literacy serves as the foundation of health for all. Hence the authors introduced the connotation and extension of health literate health care organization(HLHO) and related concepts. On such basis, the paper presented the construction method of HLHO from the perspective of health policy, healthcare organizations and inter-institutional cooperation, in order to improve the health literacy of the Chinese people and implement the Healthy China initiative(2019—2030).
