Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is an ancient medical system distinctive and effective in treating cancer, depression, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and other diseases. However, the relatively abstract diagnostic methods of TCM lack objective measurement, and the complex mechanisms of action are difficult to comprehend, which hinders the application and internationalization of TCM. Recently, while breakthroughs have been made in utilizing methods such as network pharmacology and virtual screening for TCM research, the rise of machine learning (ML) has significantly enhanced their integration with TCM. This article introduces representative methodological cases in quality control, mechanism research, diagnosis, and treatment processes of TCM, revealing the potential applications of ML technology in TCM. Furthermore, the challenges faced by ML in TCM applications are summarized, and future directions are discussed.

OBJECTIVE To provide reference for basic analysis of the pharmacodynamic substance in Stahlianthus involucratus. METHODS Overall 24 SD male rats were randomly divided into blank group （purified water）， and administration group （ethanol extract of S. involucratus， 15.75 g/kg， calculated by crude drug）， with 12 rats in each group. They were given drug liquid/purified water intragastrically， twice a day， every 6-8 h， for consecutive 3 days. After medication， the blood， urine and fecal samples were collected from two groups of rats. UPLC-Q-Exactive-MS technology was used to identify the chemical constituents in the ethanol extract of S. involucratus， and metabolites in the blood， urine and fecal of rats after intragastrical administration of the ethanol extract of S. involucratus. Multivariate statistical analysis was employed to screen various serum metabolites. Metabolic pathways were analyzed by MetaboAnalyst 5.0 platform. RESULTS A total of 38 chemical constituents were identified from the ethanol extract of S. involucratus， including fourteen prototype components and three metabolites identified from 5 urine samples， nine prototype components identified from fecal samples， and ten prototype components and one metabolite identified from serum samples. A total of 71 differential metabolites were screened from two groups of rat serum samples， of which 44 differential metabolites， such as ferulic acid， glycyrrhizin， were up-regulated and 27 differential metabolites， such as arachidonic acid， phenylacetylglutamine， were down-regulated. The 71 differential metabolites were mainly enriched in 11 metabolic pathways， including phenylalanine metabolism， linoleic acid metabolism， arachidonic acid metabolism， and tryptophan metabolism. CONCLUSIONS Ferulic acid， liquiritigenin， isofraxidin and formononetin may be the material basis that directly exert pharmacological effects of S. involucratus. S. involucratus may exert anti-inflammatory effects by affecting metabolic pathways， including arachidonic acid metabolism and tryptophan metabolism.

Turner syndrome is a sex chromosome disease with a female clinical phenotype.Most pa-tients are diagnosed in childhood or adolescence because of growth delays,and a small number of patients are diagnosed due to TS-related diseases.Women with Turner syndrome can develop hyper-tension in childhood and adolescence,and the prevalence of hypertension increases with age.The pathogenesis is unclear and may be multifactorial,similar to essential hypertension.In this review arti-cle,we explore possible mechanisms,blood pres-sure management,and treatment recommenda-tions for hypertension in patients with Turner syn-drome.

The aim of this study is to investigate the immune effect of H9 subtype avian influenza virus(AIV)NP protein on mice and lay the foundation for the development of avian influenza vi-rus(AIV)vaccine.The H9N2 virus NP gene amplification product was cloned into the pET-32a expression vector,and the protein expression was verified by SDS-PAGE and Western blot,and the immune effect was evaluated by measuring the secretion of supernatant multicytokines in mouse splenocytes culture.The results showed that the total length of the coding region sequence of NP gene was 1 497 bp,NP recombinant proteins exist in both soluble and insoluble protein forms,and the specific bands were visible in Western blot.After immunizing mice,serum produces IgG-bind-ing antibodies with antibody titers of 1∶40 000.Compared with the control group,IL-2,IL-5 and IL-13 were significantly increased(P＜0.001),and the secretion of IL-6 was significantly increased compared with the control group.IL-4 and IL-12 p70 secretions were elevated compared with con-trols,but there was no significant difference.Compared with the control group,the secretions of IL-1β,IL-18,GM-CMF,TNF-α and IFN-γ were inhibited,but the difference was not significant(P＞0.05).The results showed that NP recombinant protein is a good immunogen,laying a foundation for in-depth research on influenza vaccine.

Background: Chicken anemia virus (CAV) causes chicken infectious anemia, which results in immunosuppression; the virus has spread widely in chicken flocks in China. Objectives: The aim of this study was to understand recent CAV genetic evolution in chicken flocks in Guangxi Province, southern China. Methods: In total, 350 liver samples were collected from eight commercial broiler chicken farms in Guangxi Province in southern China from 2018 to 2020. CAV was detected by conventional PCR, and twenty CAV complete genomes were amplified and used for the phylogenetic analysis and recombination analysis. Results: The overall CAV-positive rate was 17.1%. The genetic analysis revealed that 84 CAVs were distributed in groups A, B, C (subgroups C1-C3) and D. In total, 30 of 47 Chinese CAV sequences from 2005-2020 belong to subgroup C3, including 15 CAVs from this study. There were some specific mutation sites among the intergenotypes in the VP1 protein. The amino acids at position 394Q in the VP1 protein of 20 CAV strains were consistent with the characteristics of a highly pathogenic strain. GX1904B was a putative recombinant. Conclusions Subgroup C3 was the dominant genotype in Guangxi Province from 2018–2020.The 20 CAV strains in this study might be virulent according to the amino acid residue analysis. These data help improve our understanding of the epidemiological trends of CAV in southern China.

Objective:To evaluate the application of one-stop dynamic volume perfusion CT (dVPCT) in upper abdomen, and its feasibility of replacing conventional enhanced CT, perfusion, and angiography.Methods:A total of 94 patients with upper abdominal perfusion examinations were retrospectively enrolled in Deyang People's Hospital of Sichuan Province from April 2017 to June 2019. The data of another 64 patients underwent routine upper abdominal enhancement with 64-slice CT (28 patients) and dual-source CT (26 patients) were analyzed in the same period. The radiation dose and image quality were compared. According to different contrast agent concentration and dosage, 4 perfusion groups and 2 conventional enhanccement groups were divided, including 60 ml iohexol group (350 mg/ml) and 60 ml ultravist group (370 mg/ml), 60 ml and 80 ml iomeprol group (400 mg/ml), 64-slice routine group and dual-source CT routine group. Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) of the liver, pancreas and abdominal aorta images in the arterial and portal vein phases were measured by two radiologists in a blinded way. Subjective image quality was evaluated by two radiologists using a 5-point Likert Scale in a blinded method. Statistical analysis was performed using analysis of variance and kappa test. Imaging findings and typical cases of perfusion were retrospectively analyzed.Results:Radiation dose: the effective dose of each perfusion group was lower than that of the 64-slice spiral CT scan, but higher than that of the dual-source CT routine scan. The SNR and CNR of the 80 ml iomeprol dVPCT group were better than that of 64-slice spiral CT and dual-source CT routine scan ( P<0.05), and were better than that of 60 ml iohexol, ultravist and iomeprol dVPCT groups ( P<0.05). However, the subjective index was lower than that of the dual-source CT routine scan group ( P<0.05). The comprehensive information of multi-phase images, vascular images and perfusion quantitative parameters of volume perfusion data reconstruction in this group is superior to conventional enhanced CT in the detection of lesions, visualization of normal tissues and blood vessels. Conclusion:One-stop dVPCT imaging of the upper abdomen has lower radiation dose with good image quality and more diagnostic information. dVPCT with 80 ml Iomeprol (400 mg/ml) can obtain much better images.

Objective To study the characteristics of hyperphenylalaninemia (HPA) and the differences in blood and urine metabolic index and their correlation.Methods A total of 137 patients with HPA diagnosed by the Pediatric Inherit Metabolism and Endocrine Department,Guangdong Women and Children's Hospital,Guangzhou Medical University from January 2014 to June 2017,were enrolled.Tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS),gas chromatography/ mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were used to analyze the concentration of blood and urine metabolites in children,and the patients were divided into different groups according to the drug load test of tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) and dihydrobiopterindine reductase (DHPR) deficiency.The HPA metabolite analysis of horizontal concentration by statistical differences and correlation analysis were performed.Results Among the 137 cases of HPA,there were 101 cases (73.7％) of phenylalanine hydroxylase deficiency (PAH),and among them 21 cases (15.3％) were classic phenylketonuria (PKU),37 cases were mild PKU (27.0％),43 cases (31.4％) wcrc mild HPA.Thcrc were 22 cases (16.1％) with BH4 reaction,and 79 cases (57.7％) of non-reactive type.Besides,there were 36 cases (26.3％) of tetrahydrobiopterin deficiency (BH4 D),of which 6-pyruvoyl tetrahydropterin synthase deficiency (PTPS) in 34 cases (24.8％) and dihydrobiopterindine reductase deficiency (DHPR) in 2 cases (1.5％).Urinary phenylacetic acid (r =0.673,P ＜ 0.01),phenyllactic acid (r =0.736,P ＜ 0.01),phenylpyruvic acid (r =0.642,P ＜ 0.01) were significantly correlated with blood phenylalanine (Phe) concentration,and the neopterin (N) (r =0.442,P ＜ 0.01) and biopterin (B) (r =0.398,P ＜ 0.01) had low correlation.Urinary phenylacetic acid,phenyllactic acid and phenylpyruvic acid had no correlation with urinary pterin.There were significant differences among PTPS deficiency group,BH4 response type,and non-reactive type(all P ＜ 0.05),but no significant difference between the BH4 reaction type and the non-reactive group (P ＞ 0.05).Conclusions Through the analysis of the different types of HPA metabolic profiles,it can help to master the incidence and characteristics in the region,within a certain concentration range of blood Phe,the phenylacetic acid,phenyllactic acid,phenylpyruvic acid should not be tested by GC-MS alone.Uterine erythropoietin analysis of BH4D classification and identification of BH4 reaction,non-reactive PKU have a supporting role,so master the metabolic index of various types of concentration and relevance of HPA,it can provide basis for early diagnosis,accurate treatment and follow-up.

Objective: To observe the cellular damage of low-dose combined exposure to Hg, Pb and Cd on hippocampal neurons in rat. Methods: SH-SY5Y cells were randomly divided into 8 groups by 2×2×2 factorial design: control group, Pb exposure group, Hg exposure group, Pb+Hg exposure group, Pb+Cd exposure group, Hg+Cd exposure group and Pb+Cd+Hg exposure group. And the cell viabilities were measured. On this basis, an animal model was established. Twenty eight-week-old SD pregnant rats were randomly divided into four groups by random number table, and five in each group: the control group(distilled water), 1-fold metal mixture exposure group (1×MM, poisoning solution containing mercury chloride 0.15 mg/L, lead acetate trihydrate 25 mg/L, cadmium chloride 7.5 mg/L), 5-fold metal mixture exposure group (5×MM, poisoning solution containing mercury chloride 0.75 mg/L, lead acetate trihydrate 125.00 mg/L, cadmium chloride 37.50 mg/L), 10-fold metal mixture exposure group (10×MM, poisoning solution containing mercury chloride 1.50 mg/L, lead acetate trihydrate 250.00 mg/L, cadmium chloride 75.00 mg/L). Pregnant rats drank water until delivery. Twenty male pups were selected and exposed to these metals through breast milk until weaned. The heavy metals dose of poisoning water was adjusted, and then the weaned rats were exposed to heavy metals via drinking poisoning water until adulthood (postnatal day 83). The blood samples and brain hippocampus samples were collected to observe the ultrastructural changes of hippocampus, and to determine the levels of Hg, Pb and Cd in blood. In addition, apoptosis rate and fluorescence intensity of reactive oxygen species and intracellular free calcium concentration ([Ca²⁺]_i) in hippocampal neurons were measured. Results: Cellular factorial design analysis showed that Hg+Pb+Cd (at no observed adverse effect level, 1.0, 0.5 and 0.1 μmol/L, respectively)had a interaction on cell viability after 48 or 72 hours of combined exposure (P<0.05). The results of ultrastructure showed that mitochondria decreased, ridges and matrixes gradually dissolved in rat hippocampal neurons of 5×MM group; nuclear chromatin aggregated, more ridges and matrixes dissolved and the mitochondria also decreased in rat hippocampal neurons of 10×MM group. The concentration of Hg, Pb and Cd in the blood of 1×MM group, 5×MM group and 10×MM group were higher than those in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.001). There was no significant difference in apoptosis rate between the 1×MM group and the control group. The apoptosis rate of 5×MM group and 10×MM group was higher than that in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.001). There was no statistically significant difference in the fluorescence intensity of reactive oxygen species in hippocampal neurons of the 1×MM group and the control group. The fluorescence intensity of reactive oxygen species in the 5×MM group and the 10×MM group was higher than that in the control group, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in the fluorescence intensity of [Ca²⁺]_i between the 1×MM group and the control group. The fluorescence intensity values of [Ca²⁺]_i in the 5×MM group and the 10×MM group were higher than the control group, the differences were statistically significant (P<0.001). Conclusion Low-level combined exposure to Hg, Pb, and Cd caused synergistic neurotoxic damage, and the process may be related to the changes of neuronal apoptosis, reactive oxide species, and [Ca²⁺]_i levels.

Aim To investigate the hypoglycemic pathway of terpenes from Cornus officinalis(TCF) from three aspects of insulin dependence, α-glucosidase inhibition, insulin sensitizing.Methods Insulin-deficient diabetes mellitus(DM) model was induced by tail vein injection of streptozotocin(STZ) into SD rats at the dose of 50mg·kg-1 body weight.Rats were randomly divided into seven groups: control group(CON), model group(Model), metformin group(Met) 0.1g·kg-1, shenqi jiangtang granules(Shenqi) group 1.0 g·kg-1, three dose groups of TCF: 0.10, 0.05, 0.025 g·kg-1.Body weight and blood glucose were measured every week.After four weeks, glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c), glycosylated serum protein (GSP) were determined.Normal ICR mice were divided into seven groups: CON, Model, Met group 0.2g·kg-1, acarbose group(Acar) 0.1 g·kg-1, Shenqi group 1.5g·kg-1, three dose groups of TCF: 0.20g·kg-1;0.10g·kg-1;0.05 g·kg-1.After 10 days of administration, intraperitoneal injections of glucose and gavage starch tolerance tests were employed.Normal SD rats were divided into six groups: CON, rosiglitazone group 0.02 g·kg-1, glipizide group 0.02 g·kg-1, three dose groups of TCF: 0.10, 0.05, 0.025 g·kg-1.After seven days of administration, intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test(IPGTT) was employed and levels of insulin was determined.Results (1)High dose of TCF significantly reduced the level of HbA1c(P<0.05), GSP(P<0.05) on STZ model rats;(2)TCF significantly improved the glucose tolerance and gavage starch tolerance in ICR mice(P<0.05);(3) High dose of TCF significantly reduced the blood glucose and serum insulin level.Conclusions TCF has obvious effects on inhibiting glucose absorb and promoting the use of glucose.It is able to exert hypoglycemic effect through non-insulin dependent pathway, whereas, whether it has the effects of α-glucosidase inhibition and insulin sensitization should be further validated.

Objective To survey the resistance profile of clinical isolates to antibiotics across the hospitals in Dongguan,Guangdong Province during 2015.Methods Kirby-Bauer method or automated system was used to test the susceptibility of clinical isolates to selected antimicrobial agents.Results were analyzed according to CLSI 2015 breakpoints.The susceptibility data were analyzed using WHONET 5.6 software.Results A total of 29 665 strains of microorganisms were isolated,of which gram positive cocci accounted for 32.1％ (9 509/29 665) and gram negative bacilli accounted for 67.9％ (20 156/29 665),respectively.The prevalence of methicillinresistant Staphylococcus was 23.3％ (705/3 024) in S.aureus and 43.6％ (1 054/2 419) in coagulase-negative Staphylococcus.No vancomycin-resistant staphylococcal strain was found.ESBLs-producing strains accounted for 36.4％ (2 554/7 020) in E.coli and 24.5％(792/3 227) in Klebsiella isolates.The prevalence of carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae was 0.2％ (30/13 077).The prevalence of carbapenem-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa (CRPA) and carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) was 16.0％ (500/3 116) and 53.9％ (827/1 533),respectively.The prevalence of penicillin-resistant S.pneumoniae (PRSP) strains was 10.1％ (142/1 404).Beta-lactamase was produced in 30.6％ (276/902) of the H.influenzae strains.The prevalence of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus (VRE) strains was 0.7％ (10/1 441).Conclusions Periodic surveillance of antimicrobial resistance is valuable for rational antimicrobial therapy,formulation of treatment guidelines and infection control and prevention measures,as well as preventing the spread of drug-resistant strains.
