To investigate the correlation between vitamin D nutritional status and insulin resistance in pubertal adolescents. This cross-sectional observational study employed convenience sampling to recruit 2021-grade(8th grade) students from Jining No.7 Middle School in Shandong Province on June 5, 2023. Data collection included questionnaires, physical examinations, and imaging assessments to obtain general information, secondary sexual characteristics development, and bone age. Venous blood samples were collected to measure fasting blood glucose(FBG), fasting insulin(FINS), homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance(HOMA-IR), and 25-hydroxyvitamin D[25(OH)D] levels. Spearman correlation analysis and multivariate linear regression models were used to examine the associations between serum vitamin D levels and FBG, FINS, and HOMA-IR. The study included 168 pubertal adolescents[69 females(41.1%), 99 males(58.9%); mean age(13.27±0.46) years]. All participants had entered puberty based on sexual development assessment. Vitamin D deficiency was observed in 41 participants(24.4%), insufficiency in 109(64.9%), and sufficiency in 18(10.7%). The median HOMA-IR was 3.49(2.57, 5.14).Significant differences were found across vitamin D status groups for HOMA-IR [4.45(2.54, 6.62) Vitamin D deficiency/insufficiency is prevalent among pubertal adolescents, and serum vitamin D levels show a significant inverse association with insulin resistance. These findings suggest the potential importance of vitamin D status in metabolic health during puberty.

To investigate body composition and associated factors in adolescents undergoing long-term regular sports training. This prospective longitudinal cohort study employed convenience sampling to recruit adolescents receiving structured athletic training at Jining Sports Training Center in June 2023. Baseline measurements included height, weight, body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, heart rate, waist circumference, and hip circumference. Questionnaires assessed sleep duration, screen time, and household income. Follow-up measurements in June 2024 repeated these assessments while adding bioelectrical impedance analysis for body composition (lean mass, skeletal muscle mass, fat mass, and body fat percentage). Linear regression models examined associations between training type (direct-contact vs. non-contact sports) and follow-up body fat percentage, BMI, and waist circumference as dependent variables, adjusting for covariates. The study included 110 adolescents (39 female, 71 male) with median age 13.21 years (IQR: 12.46-14.33). Participants comprised 65 direct-contact and 45 non-contact athletes. Baseline prevalence rates were 27.27% for overweight/obesity, 24.55% for elevated waist circumference, and 16.36% for elevated blood pressure. At follow-up, corresponding rates were 24.55%, 26.36%, and 13.64% respectively. The elevated blood pressure subgroup showed significantly higher waist circumference ( Despite regular athletic training, substantial proportions of adolescents exhibited overweight/obesity, abdominal obesity, and elevated blood pressure, warranting clinical attention. Training modality appears to influence body composition changes, with direct-contact sports associated with more favorable adiposity-related outcomes.

ObjectiveTo evaluate the therapeutic effect of stewed Polygoni Multiflori Radix on androgenic alopecia (AGA) and study the treatment mechanism. MethodNinety-nine SPF-grade male C57BL/6J mice were randomized into control, model, positive drug (finasteride, 0.65 mg·kg-1), low (0.78 g·kg-1), medium (1.56 g·kg-1), and high (3.12 g·kg-1)-dose stewed Polygoni Multiflori Radix, and Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata groups by the random number table method. The mouse model of AGA was constructed by subcutaneous multi-point injection of testosterone propionate diluent for 60 days, and the mice were administrated with corresponding drugs by gavage from day 11. The therapeutic effects of stewed Polygoni Multiflori Radix and Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata on AGA were evaluated by newly hair area, hair length, hair weight in the hair removal area, and hematoxylin-eosin staining. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was employed to determine the levels of testosterone (T), dihydrotestosterone (DHT), and 5α-reductase (5-AR) in the skin tissue of mice. Western blot was employed to determine the expression levels of key proteins in the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway. ResultCompared with the control group, the model group (after 60 days of modeling) showed reductions in the newly hair area, hair length and weight in the back hair removal area, and ratio of hair follicles containing melanin to total hair follicles (P<0.05, P<0.01), elevated levels of T, DHT, and 5-AR, up-regulated expression level of glycogen synthase kinase-3β (GSK-3β) (P<0.05, P<0.01), and down-regulated expression levels of β-catenin, phospho-glycogen synthase kinase-3β (p-GSK-3β), and p-GSK-3β/GSK-3β (P<0.05, P<0.01) in the skin tissue. Compared with the model group, the positive drug, low-, medium-, and high-dose stewed Polygoni Multiflori Radix, and low-, medium-, and high-dose Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata improved the newly hair area and hair length of mice (P<0.01), and stewed Polygoni Multiflori Radix and Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata at low and medium doses improved the weight of newly formed hair in mice (P<0.05, P<0.01). The positive drug, low-, medium-, and high-dose stewed Polygoni Multiflori Radix, and low- and high-dose Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata increased the ratio of hair follicles containing melanin to total hair follicles in the skin tissue (P<0.05, P<0.01). Compared with Polygoni Multiflori Radix Praeparata at the same doses, the medium and high doses of stewed Polygoni Multiflori Radix increased the ratio of melanin-containing hair follicles to total hair follicles (P<0.05). Compared with the model group, stewed Polygoni Multiflori Radix lowered the levels of T and DHT, down-regulated the expression level of GSK-3β (P<0.01), and up-regulated the expression levels of β-catenin, p-GSK-3β, and p-GSK-3β/GSK-3β (P<0.05, P<0.01) in the skin tissue of the mice. ConclusionStewed Polygoni Multiflori Radix can ameliorate androgenic alopecia in mice by reducing the androgen level and promoting Wnt/β-catenin signaling.

Objective To analyze the clinicopathologic characteristics and treatment of primary and secondary bladder mucosa lymphoma. Methods From June 1996 to September 2011,8 cases of bladder mucosa lymphoma patients including primary bladder mucosa lymphoma patients (2 males and 3 females)and secondary bladder mucosa lymphoma patients ( 1 male and 2 females) were treated in our institute. The patient's mean age was 68 years (ranged from 57 to 78 years),and the other 3 secondary bladder mucosa lymphoma patient's mean age was 61 years (ranged from 41 to 81 years).7 of 8 patients accepted transurethral resection of bladder tumor combined with CHOP chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and 1 patient abandoned treatment.CHOP chemotherapy and radiotherapy were performed at 2 weeks post-operatively.Secondary bladder mucosa lymphoma patients accepted 3-dimensional conformal 6000 cGy radiotherapy.Urinary CT examination showed that there were round or oval irregular tumors in the wall of urinary bladder, whose diameters were 1 to 4 cm.Tumor edges were glossy and tumor density were uniform. In addition, the bladder wall with tumor was uneven. In contrasted CT,the tumors appeared obviously enhanced.7 cases had cauliflower-like tumors found by cystoscope, and there were necrosis-calcification area in the center of tumors.1case appeared multiple tumors, which consisted of one big tumor and three smaller ones. Results There were 5 cases of primary bladder mucosa lymphoma, including 3 bladder mucosa associated lymphoma (MAL) cases and 2 diffuse large B cell lymphoma cases. There were 3 secondary bladder mucosa lymphoma cases including 2 diffuse large B cell lymphoma cases and 1 generalized follicular cystic central lymphoma case, which belongs to the tuberous sclerosis Hodgkin lymphoma.Immunohistochemical analysis showed that CD20,CD21,CD43 staining were positive in low grade MAL (3 cases).However,CD3,CD20,CD31 staining were positivein high grade MAL (5 cases). All patients were followed up 3 to 44 months.3 cases of secondary malignant lymphoma patients died after diagnosed after 3 to 13 months.5 cases of primary malignant lymphoma patients were all survived. 1 case recurred 14 months after surgery and accepted TURBT and CHOP chemotherapy again.Pathologic diagnosis showed the transformation from peripheral zone of bladder mucosa associated lymphoma to diffuse large B cell lymphoma. The patient was free of recurrence. Conclusions MAL and diffuse large B cell lymphoma are the most common type of bladder mucosa lymphoma.Primary and secondary diffuse large B cell lymphoma have similarities in histological analysis, but the former prognosis is better than the latter's. Transurethral resection of bladder tumor combined with chemotherapy and radiotherapy can prevent the relapse of MAL in short term and long term with good tolerance, and can be used as ideal treatment of MALT.
