West China Journal of Stomatology 2024;42(5):644-651
Objective This study aimed to evaluate the thickening of sinus membrane, which is also named Sch-neiderian membrane(SM),in patients and its relationship with periapical lesions(PAL)in the posterior maxillary region to provide reference for the prevention and treatment of odontogenic maxillary sinusitis. Methods A retrospective anal-ysis was conducted on 554 cone beam computed tomography(CBCT)imaging data of maxillary sinuses from 301 pa-tients who met the inclusion criteria to determine the correlation between PAL and SM thickening in the posterior maxil-lary region.Cases of pathological SM were recorded and classified on the basis of the degree and type of SM thickening. The correlation between SM thickening and the diameter of PAL,the relationship between the upper edge of PAL and the maxillary sinus floor, and its relationship with whether affected teeth with PAL undergo root canal treat-ment were evaluated. Results The detection rate of SM thickening in patients with PAL was significantly higher than in those without PAL,so PAL was correlated with SM thickening.Analysis on the correlation between PAL detection indi-cators and SM thickening degree showed that SM thickening degree was positively correlated with PAL diameter(cone beam computed tomography-periapical index)and not correlated with the three spread effects between the upper edge of PAL and the maxillary sinus floor,as well as whether the teeth with PAL undergo root canal treatment. The correlation analysis between PAL detection indicators and SM thickening types showed that whether the teeth with PAL undergo root canal treatment was not correlated with SM thickening types, and the diameter of PAL,the three spread effects be-tween the upper edge of PAL,and the maxillary sinus floor were not correlated with SM thickening types. Conclusion The PAL of posterior maxillary teeth is closely related to SM thickening, and the diameter of PAL is positively correlated with the degree of SM thickening.Patients with PAL who have undergone root canal treatment often exhibit SM polyp thickening. In addition, the relationship between the upper edge of PAL and the maxillary sinus floor does not affect the possibility of SM development.

Objective To establish the method for the simultaneous determination of hypoxanthine, inosine, guanosine and adenosine in Dilong formula granules by HPLC and compare the fingerprints of Dilong formula granules from different manufacturers by HPLC chromatogram. Methods The contents of hypoxanthine, inosine, guanosine and adenosine were determined by Thermo AcclaimTM120C18 column (4.6 mm×250 mm 5 μm). The mobile phase was acetonitrile-water. Gradient elution with flow rate of 0.6 ml/min was used. Column temperature was 25 ℃. Detection wavelength was 254 nm. 10 batches of samples were tested. The HPLC chromatogram were compared and analyzed by using the similarity Evaluation system of chromatographic fingerprint of traditional Chinese Medicine (version 2012.130723). Results The linear ranges for the detection of hypoxanthine, inosine, guanosine and adenosine showed good linear relationships within their own ranges (r≥0.999 9). The average recoveries were 99.20%~102.98% with RSD of 0.26 %~0.71%. The contents of 4 components in 10 batches of samples were 0.740 0~4.457 4 mg/g, 2.132 3~7.805 0 mg/g, 0.325 4~1.596 1 mg/g, 0.537 2~2.222 9 mg/g respectively. The similarity between HPLC chromatogram and control fingerprints of Dilong formula granules from different manufacturers was greater than 0.91. Conclusion The method could be used to determine the contents of hypoxanthine, inosine, guanosine and adenosine in Dilong formula granule. HPLC fingerprints could be used to evaluation the quality in Dilong formula granule. The similarity of HPLC fingerprints from different manufacturer production of Dilong formula granule is high, but 4 contents in composition are difference.

West China Journal of Stomatology 2022;40(6):685-689
OBJECTIVES:
This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of three methods in root canal retreatment to remove the filling material in the root canals.
METHODS:
Ninety tooth roots filled by gutta percha or plasticized material (n=45, each) were randomly divided into three groups (n=15). WaveOne (WaveOne group), 1#P drill+WaveOne (1#P+WaveOne group), and ultrasound P5 working end ET25+ProTaper Universal (P5+ProTaper Universal group) were used to remove the root canal filling material and prepare for root canal. The operating time of each canal was recorded and the percentage of residual filling material area was measured on the root canal wall of the mesial and distal dissected root section. The degree of deviation of the root canal after operation was measured for the root samples filled by gutta percha.
RESULTS:
The type of root filling material and the method of root canal retreatment had no significant effect on the percentage of residual area of the filling material (P>0.05). However, the remaining filling material area of apical 1/3 of the root canal was significantly higher than that of cervical 1/3 of the root canal (P<0.05). The average operating times for removing gutta-percha or plasticized material in the W and 1#P+WaveOne groups were significantly less than that in the P5+ProTaper Universal group (P=0.000). The root canal retreatment methods had no significant effect on the curvature of the root canal (P=0.650).
CONCLUSIONS
WaveOne single file's cleaning ability and center positioning ability were similar to those of ProTaper Universal. Moreover, WaveOne can be independently used for most root canals without a pathway when removing the root canal fillings, thereby simplifying the process of root canal retreatment.

Objective To study the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment of torsion of testes in newborn. Method Neonates who were diagnosed with neonatal testicular torsion and admitted to Shenzhen Children's Hospital from March 2008 to July 2018 were studied. The clinical data such as days in age, time of onset, clinical manifestations, time of ultrasound examination, characteristics of ultrasound examination, surgery time, surgical types, postoperative conditions, pathological findings, and follow-up results were retrospectively analyzed. Result A total of 12 infants with torsion of testes were enrolled. The average onset time was 2.9 d, ranged from 1~10 d. The time of onset was within 24 h after birth in six infants. The median duration from onset to seeing a doctor was 3.5 d, ranged from 2 h to 28 d. First manifestations being reported grammer were scrotal swelling or mass, including 7 cases on the left side and 5 cases on the right side. Among them, 9 cases were associated with redness or cyanosis of the scrotum. Ultrasound was characterized by the disappearance or significant reduction of testicular parenchymal blood flow signal, and the sensitivity of ultrasound was 100%. The average time from admission to operation was (2.1±1.1) h. All the 12 infants had orchiectomy, after necrosis of unilateral testicle was confirmed. Eight of them underwent contralateral test icular fixation. The average operation time was 46 min. There was no wound bleeding or infection postoperatively, and the average hospital stay was 6.4 d. The pathological features were blurred residual contour of the seminiferous tubule (9 cases) or the disappearance of the seminiferous tubule structure (3 cases). After 3 to 24 months of follow-up, no contralateral testicular torsion or atrophy was found. Conclusion The rate of testicular necrosis in children with torsion of testes is high. The newborn with scrotal swelling should be diagnosed promptly with color Doppler ultrasound. If necessary, surgical exploration should be performed in time.

Objective To construct a model of Graves'disease ( GD ) with ( or ) Graves'ophthalmopathy ( GO) in BALB/c mice by immunization with pcDNA3. 1/TSHR289. Methods pcDNA3. 1/TSHR289 was injected into the bilateral gastrocnemius muscle of 35 model mice and electroporation was immediately performed. 10 control mice were injected with sterile saline and electroporated, while 5 blank mice were injected with sterile saline only. Each group of mice was immunized at 1, 4, 7, and 10 weeks, respectively. Serum total T4 , TSH, TSAb, and TSBAb were measured before immunization, 2 weeks after each immunization, as well as 5 and 8 weeks after the last immunization. CT scan was used to evaluate the morphological changes of the eyes of the mice.99m TcO4- imaging was used to measure the thyroid uptake function, and the pathological changes of the thyroid and orbital tissues were evaluated by HE staining. Results After the 2nd time immunization, the serum concentrations of TT4 , TSAb and TSBAb in GD mice were significantly higher than those of control and blank groups( F=13.781, 31.435, 36.112, P<0.01, respectively). The TSH continued to be significantly lower than that of control and blank groups(F=13.966, P<0.01) . After the 4th time immunizations, the ability of uptaking99m TcO4- in GD mice thyroid was significantly enhanced compared with the control group. The thyroid goiter with a large amount of lymphocyte infiltration, and the thyroid follicle was thin. CT scan of GO mice showed thickening and swelling of the extraocular muscles, and no abnormalities in tendon and muscle attachment points. HE staining showed thickening of extraocular muscle fibers, lymphocyte infiltration of extraocular muscles and orbital tissue, increased hyaluronic acid, and infiltration of fat cells. Conclusion GD or GO model can be successfully induced by multiple intramuscular injection of pcDNA3.1/TSHR289 in BALB/c mice.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the association between maternal serum neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and placental inflammatory response (PIR) in late pregnancy.
METHODSWe retrospectively analyzed the clinical and follow-up data of 478 pregnant women undergoing routine prenatal examination and delivery in our hospital in the year 2016. According to the placental pathological results, the women were divided into PIR group (238 cases) and control group (240 cases). The levels of serum inflammatory makers including leukocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes, C-reactive protein (CRP) and NLR were compared between the two groups to analyze the association of these markers with PIR. Multivariate analysis was performed to identify the independent risk factors of PIR. Logistic regression model was established and the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) was used for analyzing the prognostic value of these makers in late pregnancy.
RESULTSThe areas under the curve (AUC) of leukocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes, CRP and NLR were 0.698 (95%: 0.485-0.766), 0.716 (95%: 0.453-0.783), 0.329 (95%: 0.228-0.431), 0.725 (95%: 0.677-0.765) and 0.801 (95%: 0.742-0.856), respectively. After adjusting the confounders, multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that preterm labor (OR=2.446, 95%: 1.003-4.590), premature rupture of membranes (OR=2.304, 95%: 1.049-4.161), NLR > 7 (OR=3.268, 95%: 2.071-6.920), and CRP > 15 mg/L (OR=2.137, 95%: 1.412-8.236) were independent risk factors for PIR.
CONCLUSIONSAn increased NLR in late pregnancy can serve as an effective indicator for predicting the risk of PIR.
