Objective To understand the disease spectrum of a natural village in an area with high incidence of esophageal cancer to provide a reference for precise prevention and control. Methods From 2008 to 2024, 711 asymptomatic people over the age of 35 years in a natural village with high incidence of esophageal cancer in China were surveyed, and 171 of them were subjected to gastroscopy, biopsy, and pathological examination. All participants were followed up for a long time, and their disease history was recorded. Results A total of 16 years of follow-up were performed, and 703 people were effectively followed up. In 2008, 171 people underwent gastroscopy, and 160 people had biopsy and pathological results in endoscopic screening. By 2024, 76 people had been diagnosed with malignant tumors of 12 different types, and among these people, 45 had esophageal cancer. Conclusion Esophageal cancer remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality from malignant tumors in this region. Biopsy and pathological examination should be strengthened during gastroscopy, and follow-ups and regular check-ups should be given high importance to reduce the incidence and mortality rates of esophageal cancer.

Objective:To summarize the experience of designing transplanted hair based on the orbital morphology and tissue characteristics for the treatment of eyebrow defects after burns. Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on clinical data of the patients with eyebrow defects after burns who treated at Hair Transplantation Center, Plastic Surgery Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences between January 2011 and September 2023. The location and appearance of eyebrow were designed according to the orbital morphology and tissue characteristics. The follicles were extracted by incision of scalps strips and follicle unit excision (FUE) on the donor area of the occipital region near the posterior hairline or the posterior ear hairline. Scalps with scars that needed to be removed or had "dog ear" deformities following scalp expansion surgery that needed to be repaired were also be used as donor sites. The follicles were divided as follicle units (FUs) including single hair. The recipient area was punched with syringe needle of 22 or 22 G to subcutaneous superficial layer. Then the hair shaft was clamped with microforceps and the hairs were transplanted to the defective area to restore the appearance of eyebrow. The density, morphology, direction and scars of the donor sites were observed by following-ups.Results:A total of 197 patients with 282 eyebrows were recruited. There were 133 males and 64 females. The average age was 33.7 (9 to 62) years. There were 17 patients with skin graft transplantation in the eyebrow arch, 33 with flap and expanded flap repair, 36 with eyelid skin grafting, 111 with burn scar healing. A total of 51 patients had complete eyebrow defects on both sides, and 34 had partial defects. Sixty-five patients had complete eyebrow defects on single side, and 47 had partial defects. The amount of hair transplantation was from 53 to 600 FUs on 282 eyebrows. Seventy-five patients extracted follicles with incision of scalps strips and 122 with FUE. The patients were followed up for 9 months to 10 years. Folliculitis were found in 17 patients and completely cured by 75% alcohol disinfection. Nine patients with insufficient density underwent hair transplantation for a second time to increase the density of hairs one year later. And the implanted hairs grew well, which were similar to the shape and direction of normal eyebrows. Transplanted hairs of the rest patients grew well. The direction and appearance were satisfied. The scar in the donor site was not obvious. Conclusion:The transplanted hair should be designed primarily based on the orbital morphology and tissue characteristics for the treatment of eyebrow defects after burns. Then the position of the eyebrow and the bilateral symmetry should be considered. The ideal effect of eyebrow reconstruction would depend on the full consideration of the receipt site.

Objective:To explore the clinical manifestations and characteristics of serum adrenal cortex hormone spectrum in patients with adrenocortical hypercortisolism with different pathological types of adrenal adenoma. Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on 68 patients with adrenal Cushing's syndrome who underwent surgical treatment in the Department of Endocrinology and/or Urology, Peking University First Hospital from January 2018 to June 2022. Among them, 12 patients had obvious eosinophilic changes in pathology(eosinophilic group), and 56 patients had no obvious eosinophilic changes(non-eosinophilic group). Among eosinophilic group, one male and 11 females, age(49.83±9.87) years old, body mass index (BMI)(25.86±3.21) kg/m 2, systolic blood pressure (140.25±20.72)mmHg(1 mmHg=0.133 kPa), diastolic blood pressure(91.00±14.87)mmHg, 7 cases were overt Cushing's syndrome. Among non-eosinophilic group, 14 males and 32 females, age(52.91±10.82) years old, BMI (26.06 ± 3.57) kg/m 2; ystolic blood pressure (142.13±16.71) mmHg, diastolic blood pressure (83.63±11.41) mmHg; 16 cases of overt Cushing's syndrome. There was no statistically significant difference in the above indicators between the two groups ( P>0.05).In terms of laboratory tests, 0: 00 cortisol levels in the eosinophilic group and non-eosinophilic groups were 14.95(5.93, 23.2) ng/dl and 6.69(4.07, 11.35) ng/dl ( P=0.044), the cortisol levels after 1mg dexamethasone inhibition test were 20.19(11.29, 26.92) ng/dl and 5.94(2.68, 12.90) ng/dl ( P=0.005), and 8: 00, 16: 00, and 0: 00, ACTH levels were 2.08 (1.02, 2.90) pg/ml and 8.37(2.30, 11.67) pg/ml ( P=0.006), 1.22(1.00, 3.20) pg/ml, and 4.22(1.80, 6.33) pg/ml ( P=0.012), 0.65 (0, 2.63) pg/ml, and 2.76(1.44, 5.57) pg/ml( P=0.023), serum triglyceride were 1.92(1.31, 2.50) mmol/L and 1.31(1.04, 1.80) mmol/L ( P=0.026), and the differences were statistically significant. In terms of target organ damage, there were 6 cases and 10 cases ( P=0.017) in the eosinophilic group and non eosinophilic group with ventricular wall hypertrophy, 1 case and 0 cases( P=0.030) in the aortic dissection group, and 4 cases and 5 cases ( P=0.024) with four or more types of target organ damage, respectively, with statistically significant differences. Two groups of preoperative serum adrenal cortex hormone profiles were detected by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. The differences in adrenal cortex hormone profiles and hormone ratios between the two groups were compared. Age, gender, and statistically significant indicators were included in a multivariate logistic regression model to analyze the correlation between each indicator and eosinophilic changes. Results:Adrenal cortical hormone profile of the two groups showed that the serum estrone levels in the eosinophilic group and non-eosinophilic group were 20.27(13.49, 39.81) pg/ml and 12.59(8.08, 21.18) pg/ml ( P=0.034), and 11-hydroxyandrostenedione levels were 692.34(536.19, 1 049.66) pg/ml and 1 157.60(710.78, 1 539.30) pg/ml( P=0.026), with statistically significant differences; There were no statistically significant difference in the expression levels of other hormones ( P>0.05). BACKGROUND:
Stem cell-based transplantation therapy holds promise for peripheral nerve injury treatment, but adult availability is limited. A cell culture protocol utilizing a small-molecule cocktail effectively reprogrammed stem cells from apical papilla (SCAPs) into neural progenitor cells, subsequently differentiating into neuron-like cells. This study aims to evaluate neural-induced SCAPs, with and without small-molecule cocktail, for sciatic nerve repair potential.

		                        			METHODS:
A scaffold-free cell sheet technique was used to construct a three-dimensional cell sheet. Subsequently, this cell sheet was carefully rolled into a tube and seamlessly inserted into a collagen conduit, which was then transplanted into a 5 mm sciatic nerve injury rat model. Functional sciatic nerve regeneration was evaluated via toe spread test, walking track analysis and gastrocnemius muscle weight. Additionally, degree of sciatic nerve regeneration was determined based on total amount of myelinated fibers.

		                        			RESULTS:
Small-molecule cocktail induced SCAPs enhanced motor function recovery, evident in improved sciatic function index and gastrocnemius muscle retention. We also observed better host myelinated fiber retention than undifferentiated SCAPs or neural-induced SCAPs without small-molecule cocktail. However, clusters of neuron-like cell bodies (surrounded by sparse myelinated fibers) were found in all cell sheet-implanted groups in the implantation region. This suggests that while the implanted cells likely survived transplantation, integration was poor and would likely hinder longterm recovery by occupying the space needed for host nerve fibers to project through.

		                        			CONCLUSION
Neural-induced SCAPs with small-molecule cocktail demonstrated promising benefits for nerve repair; further research is needed to improve its integration and optimize its potential for long-term recovery.

		                        			Results:
Four herbicides were effectively separated on the ACQUITY UPLC BEH C18 column (100 mm× 2.1 mm, 1.7 μm), and good linear relationships were observed for quinclorac, acetochlor and butachlor at 1 to 25 μg/L and for metolachlor at 0.2 to 25 μg/L, with all linear correlation coefficients of >0.999. The detection limts of quinclorac, acetochlor, butachlor and metolachlor were 0.10, 0.10, 0.20 and 0.01 μg/L, respectively. The recovery rates of quinclorac, acetochlor and butachlor were 107.42%, 93.94% and 90.27% from urine samples at a spiked level of 5 µg/L, with relative standard deviations of 4.82%, 3.84% and 6.76%, and the recovery rate of metolachlor was 89.51% at a spiked level of 0.5 µg/L, with a relative standard deviation of 8.98%.
