Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(5):619-623
Objective:
To explore the association between negative life events and smartphone addiction among middle school students, so as to provide theoretical support and practical guidance for prevention and intervention of smartphone addiction among middle school students.
Methods:
Using cluster sampling, 8 890 students were selected to survey from 27 junior high schools and 3 senior high schools in a district of Shenzhen in 2022 (baseline) and 2023 (followup). Data were collected through selfresigned questionnaires on basic information, the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version, and the Adolescent Selfrating Life Events Checklist. Mixedeffects models were employed to analyze the association.
Results:
Compared to 2022, the punishment scores of middle school students in 2023 [1.00 (0.00, 6.00) and 1.00 (0.00, 6.00)] decreased (Z=4.27), while the scores of interpersonal stress, learning stress and adaptation [4.00(0.00, 8.00), 4.00(0.00, 8.00); 4.00(1.00, 8.00), 5.00(2.00, 9.00); 2.00 (0.00, 6.00), 3.00 (0.00, 7.00)] increased (Z=-3.04, -8.36, -6.80) (P<0.01). Mixedeffects models revealed a positive doseresponse relationship between negative life events and smartphone addiction (OR=1.08-1.17, P<0.01). Stepwise regression showed independent positive effects of interpersonal stress (OR=1.05), academic stress (OR=1.03), and adaptation stress (OR=1.11) on smartphone addiction (P<0.01). Subgroup analysis of nonaddicted students in 2022 confirmed persistent associations for academic stress (OR=1.03) and adaptation (OR=1.07) (P<0.01).
Conclusion
Negative life events exhibit a positive doseresponse relationship with smartphone addiction, particularly interpersonal stress, academic stress, and adaptationrelated events.
2.Longitudinal association between only-child status and smartphone addiction in middle school students
Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(5):630-633
Objective:
To explore the longitudinal association between only-child status and smartphone addiction among middle school students, so as to provide a basis for establishing family intervention measures for smartphone addiction in middle school students.
Methods:
In October 2022 and October 2023, a preliminary survey and follow-up were conducted among 8 759 middle and high school students from 30 schools in a district of Shenzhen. A self-designed questionnaire was used to determine whether the students were the only-child, and the Chinese Version of the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version (C-SAS-SV) was utilized to assess the students smartphone addiction status. A multilevel mixed-effects model and subgroup analysis were applied to examine the association between only-child status and smartphone addiction among middle school students.
Results:
During 2022 to 2023, the prevalence of smartphone addiction in the cohort of middle school students increased from 24.1% to 25.2%. Compared with only-child, non-only child were more likely to be addicted to smartphones (adjusted model: OR =1.2, 95% CI =1.1-1.4) and also scored higher on smartphone addiction (adjusted model: β =0.9, 95% CI =0.2-1.5)( P <0.05). Subgroup analysis further revealed that compared to baseline, non-only child demonstrated an increased prevalence of smartphone addiction (adjusted model: OR = 1.2 , 95% CI =1.0-1.5) and higher addiction scores (adjusted model: β =0.8, 95% CI =0.2-1.5) after one year( P <0.05).
Conclusions
Non-only child face higher risk of smartphone addiction. Under the current population policy, it is crucial to address smartphone addiction among middle school students who is not only child.
3.Longitudinal association between compulsive behaviour and smartphone addiction in middle school students
Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(5):638-641
Objective:
To explore the potential causal association between adolescent compulsive behaviour and smartphone addiction based on longitudinal data, so as to provide reference for the establishment of adolescent smartphone addiction interventions.
Methods:
A preliminary survey and follow-up were conducted on 8 907 middle and high school students in a district of Shenzhen in 2022 and 2023, respectively. Compulsive behaviours were measured by using the Mental Health Inventory for Middle School Students-60 Items (MMHI-60), smartphone addiction was assessed by using the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version ( SAS- SV), and the associations between compulsive behaviours and smartphone addiction were analysed by using multilevel mixed-effects models and subgroup analyses.
Results:
Smartphone addiction detection rates among middle school students were significantly associated with genders, father s education level, mother s education level, study load subgroups, and whether or not they were single-parent families, and there were statistical differences ( χ 2=17.21-175.34, P <0.05). Students with compulsive behaviours were 2.98 times more likely to develop smartphone addiction than those without compulsive behaviours ( OR=2.98, 95%CI=2.77-3.22, P <0.05). Subgroup analysis of middle school students without smartphone addiction in the first year found that compulsive behaviours significantly predicted smartphone addiction ( OR= 1.76 , 95%CI=1.54-2.01, P <0.05).
Conclusion
There is a potential causal association between obsessive-compulsive behaviours and smartphone addiction in middle school students, and obsessive-compulsive behaviours in middle school students could significantly predicted the occurrence of smartphone addiction.

Chinese Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology 2024;59(8):608-616
Objective:To exlplore the association between the baseline luteinizing hormone/follicle stimulating hormone (LH/FSH) ratio of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and in vitro fertilisation-embryo transfer outcomes. Methods:This was a retrospective cohort study. A total of 2 868 PCOS patients were enrolled, all of the participants were patients in The First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University Hospital from October 2015 to October 2021. Propensity score matching (1∶2.5) was conducted to regulate the non-random allocation of patients. Data were extracted from the hospital′s medical records. Patients with baseline LH/FSH ratio>2 were deemed as study group, patients with baseline LH/FSH ratio≤2 were deemed as control group. Single factor analysis was applied to compare the differences of pregnancy outcomes between two groups. Results:After propensity score matching (1∶2.5), there were no statistically significant differences in baseline data between the two groups (all P>0.05), indicating that the data were comparable. In the study group, the total dose of gonadotropin (Gn) and duration of Gn were lower than those of the control group ( t=4.989, P<0.001; t=3.267, P=0.001), the rate of in vitro maturation was higher than that of the control group ( χ2=4.938, P=0.026), the number of retrieved oocytes and cleavage were higher than those of the control group ( t=-2.305, P=0.021; t=-2.816, P=0.005), but there were no differences in the number and rate of high-quality embryos between the two groups ( t=-1.636, P=0.102; t=-0.123, P=0.902). The incidence of moderate to severe ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome in the study group was significantly higher than that in the control group ( χ2=17.277, P<0.001). Regardless of fresh embryo transfer or frozen-thawed embryo transfer cycles, the incidences of gestational diabetes mellitus in the study group were higher than those in the control group ( χ2=9.174, P=0.002; χ2=4.204, P=0.040) of singleton pregnancy. In the fresh embryo transfer cycle, the clinical pregnancy rate [30.30% (20/66) vs 47.75% (53/111)] and delivery rate [30.30% (20/66) vs 46.85% (52/111)] in the study group were lower than those in the control group ( χ2=5.198, P=0.023; χ2=4.695, P=0.030). In the frozen-thawed embryo transfer cycle, the delivery rate in the study group was higer than that in the control group [59.41% (423/712) vs 55.04% (1 053/1 913); χ2=7.526, P=0.023]. The clinical pregnancy rate and delivery rate of fresh embryo transfer cycle in the study group were significantly lower than those of frozen-thawed embryo transfer cycle ( χ2=21.308, P<0.001; χ2=20.871, P<0.001), but there were no significant differences in the control group (all P>0.05). Conclusions:PCOS patients with a higher basal LH/FSH ratio are more likely to develop moderate to severe ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome after controlled ovarian stimulation and have a higher incidence of gestational diabetes mellitus. Better pregnancy outcome could be obtained by frozen-thawed embryo transfer.

Chinese Journal of Pathophysiology 2024;40(10):1916-1925
AIM:To explore the impact of sphingosine 1-phosphate receptor 5(S1PR5)on lipopolysaccha-ride(LPS)-induced neuroinflammation and cognitive-behavioral impairments in mice, alongside the anti-inflammatory im-pacts on BV2 cells and associated mechanisms.METHODS:(1)C57BL/6 wild-type(WT)mice and homozygous S1PR5 knockout(KO)mice were utilized and categorized into WT control,WT-LPS,S1PR5 KO control, and S1PR5 KO-LPS groups using the random number method.Neuroinflammatory models in mice were induced by a single intraperitoneal injection of 5 mg/kg LPS in the WT-LPS and S1PR5 KO-LPS groups, while an equivalent volume of saline was injected in-to the WT control and S1PR5 KO control groups.Following 7 days of modeling, the Morris water maze test was conducted, followed by the collection of brain tissues from each group of mice.Hippocampal tissue sections were stained with Nissl. The mRNA expression levels of tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α),interleukin-1β(IL-1β)and IL-6 in hippocampal tis-sues were determined using RT-qPCR.Western blot and tissue immunofluorescence techniques were employed to assess the expression of nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor protein 3(NLRP3)in hippocampal tissues.(2)The BV2 cells underwent LPS stimulation to induce an inflammatory response and were treated with either the S1PR5 ago-nist A971432 or lentiviral overexpression of S1PR5.The effects of S1PR5 agonism or overexpression on S1PR5,IL-1β,IL-6,TNF-α,and CD206 were assessed using RT-qPCR.Additionally,CD206 expression was examined via cellular im-munofluorescence.Western blot was employed to analyze the protein levels of microglia polarization markers CD206,in-ducible nitric oxide synthase(iNOS),cyclooxygenase 2(COX2),and NLRP3,as well as p-NF-κB,cleaved caspase-1,and IκBα.RESULTS:(1)Findings from in vivo experiments indicated that S1PR5 KO notably exacerbated LPS-induced memory impairments in mice, alongside increased mRNA levels of IL-1β and IL-6,and increased protein levels of NLRP3 in the hippocampus.(2)The presence of S1PR5 in BV2 cells remained unaffected by variations in A971432 concentration and exposure duration.(3)Activation of S1PR5 or its overexpression significantly mitigated LPS-induced expression of IL-1β,IL-6,and TNF-α,while concurrently enhancing CD206 expression in BV2 cells at the mRNA level. At the protein level,it led to a noteworthy increase in CD206 expression, indicative of M2-type macrophages, and a reduction in the ex-pression of iNOS and COX2,markers of M1-type macrophages.Furthermore,it downregulated NLRP3,p-NF-κB,and cleaved caspase-1 expression, while upregulating IκBα expression.CONCLUSION:S1PR5 deficiency exacerbates cog-nitive deficits in mice by promoting neuroinflammatory responses induced by LPS.
