Aim To investigate the effect of dihydro-myricetin (DMY) on the insulin resistance in 3T3-L1 adipocytes and its mechanism. Methods The differ-entiated adipocytes were treated with 1 μmol · L-1 dexamethasone ( dex ) for 7 days to induce insulin re-sistance. With or without insulin, DMY (1 × 10 -6 ~ 1 × 10 -8 mol·L-1 ) was exposed to the normal and in-sulin-resistant 3 T3-L1 adipocytes for 48 hour and 72 hour, respectively. Rosiglitazone ( 1 × 10 -6 mol · L-1 ) was used as a positive control. The glucose up-take was evaluated by glucose consumption. The mR-NA expressions of glucose transporter 4 ( GLUT4 ) , protein kinase B ( PKB/Akt) and adiponectin were de-termined by RT-PCR analysis. Results DMY ( 5 × 10 -7 ~ 1 × 10 -8 mol·L-1 ) concentration-dependently increased the glucose uptake in insulin-resistant 3 T3-L1 adipocytes, similar to rosiglitazone. However, DMY did not affect the glucose consumption in normal 3T3-L1 cells. After treatment of DMY to insulin-resist-ant 3T3-L1 adipocytes for 72 hours, the expressions of GLUT4 , Akt2 and adiponectin mRNA were markedly increased, compared with the dexamethasone-treated group. Conclusion DMY could improve the insulin resistance in 3T3-L1 adipocytes, which is related to in-creasing the mRNA expression of GLUT4 , Akt2 and adiponectin.

BACKGROUND: Wuhuang oil has a bacteriostatic action to treat burn wound and promote traumatic healing, but the action on inhibition of scars formation remains poorly understood.OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effects of modified Wuhuang oil at different concentrations and administration times on the growth and proliferation of human fibroblasts in vitro.DESIGN, TIME AND SETTING: Comparison observation regarding cytology in vitro was performed at the Burns Institute in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University between April 2006 and January 2007.MATERIALS: Prepuce specimens were harvested from patients who underwent circumcision in Department of urinary surgery, at First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University and Jiangxi Provincial Children Hospital. All patients aged 2-12 years old, and informed consents were obtained from their relatives. Wuhuang oil and modified Wuhuang oil (water-solubility) were offered by Department of Pharmaceutical Preparation in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University, China. METHODS: Human fibroblasts cultured in vitro were divided into 2 groups at random, experiment and control. Experiment group was treated with 300 g/L Wuhuang oil, while control group with 300 g/L modified Wuhuang oil. Serum-free culture fluid was used to prepare 6 concentrations of oil solution: 0 (blank control), 100, 150, 200, 250, 300 g/L.MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: MTT assay was used to determine the growth and proliferation of human fibroblasts at 2, 3, 4, 5,6 days; inhibition rate of cell growth was observed at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 days.RESULTS: Modified Wuhuang oil (0-300 g/L) concentration positively correlated with inhibition of human fibroblast proliferation;the inhibition was not related to culture time. Modified Wuhuang oil (300 g/L) had the greatest inhibition rate of human fibroblasts at 8-10 days, there were significant differences between experiment group and control group (P < 0.01).CONCLUSION: Modified Wuhuang oil has an effective inhibition on the proliferation of human fibroblasts in vitro, and shows a dose-dependent tendency. Compared with Wuhuang oil, 300 g/L modified Wuhuang oil is superior to suppress the growth of human fibroblasts.

OBJECTIVETo understand the knowledge, attitude, behavior and perception (KABP) related to STD/AIDS among the high-risk population and to explore effective methods for health education and behavioral intervention.
METHODSSeven hundred and twenty of the reeducated in a reeducation center were surveyed using questionnaires, which were collected and analyzed.
RESULTSThe knowledge of the subjects about STD/AIDS was insufficient. When they had sex with their clients, the preventive measures against STD/AIDS were incorrect and the proportion of condom use was small. And when infected with STD/AIDS, they turned to private clinics for nonstandard treatment.
CONCLUSIONThe knowledge of save sex and the preventive measures against STD/AIDS need to be improved, and correct guidance is imperative as to the seeking of standard medical help among the high-risk population. The key to sexual health education was to establish a corresponding social supporting system.
