Objective:To investigate the effect of radiofrequency radiation (RF) from 5G mobile phone communication frequency bands (3.5 GHz and 4.9 GHz) on the permeability of the blood-brain barrier (BBB) in mice. Methods:A total of 24 healthy adult male C57BL/6 mice (6-8 weeks old) were randomly divided into Sham, 3.5 GHz RF and 4.9 GHz RF groups, and 8 mice in each group. Mice in the RF groups were systemically exposed to 5G cell phone radiation for consecutive 35 d(1 h/d) with 50 W/m 2 power density. The BBB permeability of mice was detected by Evans Blue (EB) fluorescence experiment. The expression levels of the BBB tight junction-related proteins (ZO-1, occludin and claudin-11) and the gap junction-related protein Connexin 43 were determined by Western blot. Results:The number of spots, fluorescence intensity and comprehensive score of EB were significantly increased in 3.5 GHz RF group and 4.9 GHz RF group compared with the Sham group ( t=12.98, 17.82, P<0.001). Compared with the Sham group, the content of S100B in mouse serum was significantly increased in 3.5 GHz RF group and 4.9 GHz RF group ( t=19.34, 14.68, P<0.001). The BBB permeability was increased in the RF group. The expression level of occludin protein was significantly reduced in the 3.5 GHz RF group ( t=-3.13, P<0.05), and this decrease was much profound in the 4.9 GHz RF group ( t=-6.55, P<0.01). But the protein levels of ZO-1, Claudin-11 and Connexin 43 in the cerebral cortex of the RF groups had no significantly difference in comparison with the Sham group( P>0.05). Conclusions:The continuous exposure of mobile phone RF at 3.5 GHz or 4.9 GHz for 35 d (1 h/d) induces an increase of BBB permeability in the mouse cerebral cortex, perhaps by reducing the expression of occludin protein.

Objective:
To investigate the effect of X-ray on the polarization of mouse microglia BV-2 cells.
Methods:
BV-2 cells at the logarithmic growth stage were randomly divided into the Sham irradiation group and 10 Gy irradiation group. The latter group was given a single X-ray irradiation at a dose of 1.28 Gy/min for 7 min 49 s. The activation rate of BV-2 cells was observed and analyzed under a microscope at 1, 3, 6, 24 h and 48 h after irradiation. The changes of cell morphology were observed by HE staining and immunofluorescence staining; The levels of M1-type activation markers (TNF-α and IL-1β) and M2-type activation marker TGF-β1 in the supernatant of BV-2 cells were detected by ELISA. The
levels of polarization-related proteins of M1-type (CD86 and iNOS) and M2-type (CD206) in BV-2 cells were detected by Western blotting.
Results :
Morphological results showed that BV-2 cells became larger, and their protrude became coarse
and shorter, showing "amoeba" like changes after 10 Gy X-ray irradiation. Compared with the Sham group, the activation rate of BV-2 cells was significantly increased at 3 h, and reached the peak at 6 h, and began to recover at 48 h after irradiation. ELISA results showed an obvious increase in the level of TNF-α and TGF-β1 48 h after irradiation. The level of IL-1β showed a transient decrease at 3~6 h, increased at 24 h, and reached the peak 48 h after irradiation. Western blotting results
showed that CD86 protein level did not change significantly at each time points after irradiation, and iNOS protein level in-
creased significantly at 1, 6, 24 h and 48 h after irradiation. A fluctuating change in CD206 protein level was found after irradiation.
Conclusion
10 Gy X-ray irradiation can induce the activation of BV-2 cells in vitro, and the polarization type
changes with the time after irradiation.

Objective To systematically review the efficacy and safety of single-port video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) vs. multiple-port VATS in lobectomy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Methods The PubMed, EMbase, the Cochrane Library, CBM, CNKI, Wanfang, VIP and Web of Science were searched to collect clinical studies about single- vs. multiple-port VATS for patients with NSCLC from inception to August 2018. The literatures were screened, data were extracted and the risk of bias of included studies was assessed independently by two reviewers. The meta-analysis with the collected data was performed by using RevMan 5.3 software. Results Eleven studies (4 randomized controlled trials, 1 prospective cohort study and 6 retrospective cohort studies), including 1 574 patients. Among them, 779 patients were in the single-port group, and 795 in the multiple-port group. The results of meta-analysis showed that there was no significant difference between the two groups in the operation time (MD=3.60, 95%CI –8.59 to 15.79, P=0.56), the conversion rate (OR=1.06, 95%CI 0.54 to 2.06, P=0.87), the incidence of postoperative complications (OR=0.76, 95%CI 0.53 to 1.10, P=0.15), postoperative hospitalization time (MD=0.74, 95%CI –1.60 to 0.12, P=0.09), chest tube placement time (MD=0.63, 95%CI –1.28 to 0.02, P=0.06) or harvested lymph nodes (MD=–0.11, 95%CI –0.46 to 0.24, P=0.54). The intraoperative blood loss (MD=–17.12, 95%CI –31.16 to –3.08, P=0.02) was less in the single-port group than that in the multiple-port group. The visual analogue score (VAS) on postoperative first day (MD=–1.30, 95%CI –1.85 to –0.75, P<0.000 01) and on postoperative third day (MD=–0.82, 95%CI –1.00 to –0.65, P<0.000 01) were lower in the single-port group than those in the multiple-port group. Conclusion The meta-analysis indicates that the efficacy of single-port VATS for NSCLC is equivalent to multiple-port VATS. However the intraoperative blood loss, the VAS scores on postoperative first and third days in the single-port group are better.

Objective To analyze the correlation between the tubular gastric width and the anti gastroesophageal reflux after esophageal cancer operation, and to provide reference for the choice of surgical methods in treatment of esophageal cancer. Methods Selected 60 patients who received radical surgery for esophageal carcinoma combined with gastric tube reconstruction surgery in our hospital from January 2015 to October 2015,and divided them into two groups according to the way of stomach tube anastomosis (cervical anastomosis, thoracic anastomosis) and different width of gastric tube (greater than or equal to or less than 3 cm).Namely:cervical anastomosis + greater than or equal to 3 cm group(14 cases),cervical anastomosis + less than 3 cm group(15 cases),thoracic anastomosis + greater than or equal to 3 cm group(15 cases) and thoracic anastomosis + less than 3 cm group(16 cases). All patients recieved esophageal pH monitoring for 3 days continuously from the 11 th day after operation. The monitoring indicators include:number of reflux, accumulation time of pH < 4,whether there were clinical symptoms (heartburn, chest pain, pharyngeal foreign body sensation, cough, asthma, etc.) after surgery, and the frequency and time of these clinical symptoms appeared. All the patients were given endoscopic examination at the 14th days postoperatively.Observed the esophageal mucosa of patients and conducted histopathological grading of gastric mucosal inflammation. And then made a correlation analysis of gastric tube width and esophageal mucosal inflammation grade among all the patients with reflux symptoms. Results The cumulative time and number of reflux, incidence rate of clinical symptoms, and pH values less than 4 were significantly different(P < 0.05).The cumulative time and number of reflux, incidence rate of clinical symptoms, and pH values less than 4 in the cervical anastomosis + less than 3 cm group were significantly lower than that in the other 3 groups(P < 0.05),with statistical significance between different groups of endoscopic esophageal mucosa inflammation grade difference (P < 0.05).Esophageal mucosal inflammation grading in patients of the cervical anastomosis + less than 3 cm group was the lightest. It showed a linear correlation between the gastric tube width and esophageal mucosal inflammation grading in patients with reflux symptoms. Conclusion Postoperative gastroesophageal reflux is closely related to stomach esophagus width after resection of esophageal carcinoma with tubular stomach reconstruction of stomach esophagus, because it is unable to control gastric tube width to the appropriate range. And it should be strengthened in patients with reflux related indicators for monitoring,so as to take measures to prevent gastroesophageal reflux as soon as possible to improve the prognosis of patients with quality.

A major barrier to the use of antimicrobial peptides as antibiotics is the toxicity or ability to lyse eukaryotic cells. In this study, a 26-residue amphipathic α-helical antimicrobial peptide A12L/A20L (Ac-KWKSFLKTFKSLKKTVLHTLLKAISS-amide) was used as the framework to design a series of D- and L-diastereomeric peptides and study the relationships of helicity and biological activities of α-helical antimicrobial peptides. Peptide helicity was measured by circular dichroism spectroscopy and demonstrated to correlate with the hydrophobicity of peptides and the numbers of D-amino acid substitutions. Therapeutic index was used to evaluate the selectivity of peptides against prokaryotic cells. By introducing D-amino acids to replace the original L-amino acids on the non-polar face or the polar face of the helix, the hemolytic activity of peptide analogs have been significantly reduced. Compared to the parent peptide, the therapeutic indices were improved of 44-fold and 22-fold against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, respectively. In addition, D- and L-diastereomeric peptides exhibited lower interaction with zwitterionic eukaryotic membrane and showed the significant membrane damaging effect to bacterial cells. Helicity was proved to play a crucial role on peptide specificity and biological activities. By simply replacing the hydrophobic or the hydrophilic amino acid residues on the non-polar or the polar face of these amphipathic derivatives of the parent peptide with D-amino acids, we demonstrated that this method could have excellent potential for the rational design of antimicrobial peptides with enhanced specificity.

Journal of Southern Medical University 2013;33(7):1036-1040
OBJECTIVETo explore the induction of L-forms of Mycobacterium abscess using isoniazid.
METHODSMycobacterium abscess were cultured in aqueous culture media in the presence or absence of 128 µg/ml isoniazid. The culture media containing isoniazid were filtered with 0.45 µm membrane, and the filtrate was subcultured in nutrient agar media for reversion. The isoniazid-free and isoniazid-containing media and the reversion bacteria were observed for cell wall integrity by cell wall staining and transmission electron microscopy, and the microstructures of the cell surfaces were observed by scanning electron microscopy. The isoniazid-containing culture was subcultured in L-form agar media, and the isoniazid-free culture and the reversed bacteria in nutrient agar media to observe the colony morphology. The reversed and non-induced bacteria were identified for 16S rDNA.
RESULTSThe bacteria induced with 128 µg/ml isoniazid showed cell wall defect, presenting with a spherical cell morphology and typical fried egg-like colonies in L-form agar media, while in isoniazid-free cultures, the cells showed intact cell walls with rod-like shapes and round colony morphologies on nutrient agar. The reversed bacteria, showing also intact cell walls with rod-like shapes and round colonies on nutrient agar, had identical 16S rDNA with the non-induced bacteria.
CONCLUSIONIsoniazid can induce the L-forms of mycobacterium abscess for use in studies of multidrug resistance and treatment of the bacteria.
