BACKGROUND:It has been found that internal factors such as anatomical structure, hormone level and neuromuscular function of athletes are closely related to the risk of anterior cruciate ligament injuries, and external factors such as the material of the playing field also become one of the risk factors affecting the occurrence of non-contact anterior cruciate ligament injuries, but they are relatively under-attended in the current studies. OBJECTIVE:To explore effects of artificial turf versus natural grass on the biomechanical performance of the lower limbs in young females during jump-landing. METHODS:According to the test needs, artificial turf and natural grass in accordance with the standards of GB/T 20033.3-2006 and GB/T 19995.1-2005 were leveled and fixed on two three-dimensional force measuring platforms.Twenty-one young females were voluntarily recruited and completed the jump-landing task on the artificial turf and natural grass.Subjects stood on the steps and then jumped forward, jumped down to the force measuring platform and immediately jumped with full force to the force measuring platform again. The two landings were required to fall to the two force measuring platforms, and the whole jumping action was considered successful without any pause. The kinematic, kinetic and electromyographic data of the lower limbs during the landing process were collected synchronously to compare and analyze the differences between the two. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:In terms of kinetics, posterior and vertical ground reaction force at the initial landing moment during jump-landing on the natural grass were significantly lower than those on the artificial turf(P<0.05,P<0.01),as well as at the peak ground reaction force moment(P<0.05,P<0.05).Additionally,the knee flexion moment when jump-landing on the natural grass was higher than that on the artificial turf(P<0.01).In terms of electromyography, within 100 ms after the initial landing moment, the electromyography activity levels of medial femoris muscle, lateral femoris muscle and anterior tibialis muscle when jump-landing on the natural grass were significantly lower than those on the artificial turf(P<0.05,P<0.01,P<0.05).To conclude, compared with the natural grass,jump-landing on the artificial turf leads to an change in biomechanical performance that will cause an increase in anterior cruciate ligament tension.

Objective:To investigate the clinical characteristics of patients with keratoconus, and to explore the factors influencing keratoconus severity. Methods:A cross-sectional study was performed.A total of 908 patients (1 476 eyes) with primary keratoconus were enrolled in Henan Eye Hospital from January 2019 to December 2021.The medical history data of patients were collected by face-to-face questionnaire survey.Refractive parameters were measured by subjective optometry.Intraocular pressure (IOP) was measured by a non-contact tonometer, and corrected IOP was calculated by Dresden formula.Corneal topography parameters was obtained using Pentacam HR.The subgroup analysis of clinical characteristics of all patients was performed by age (<21 years, 21~<31 years, ≥31 years) and gender.Disease severity was graded based on steep keratometry (Ks), namely mild (Ks<48 D), moderate (48 D≤Ks<55 D) and severe (Ks≥55 D). The influencing factors of disease severity in keratoconus were analyzed by ordered Logistic regression. This study adhered to the Declaration of Helsinki. The study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of Henan Eye Hospital (No.HNEECKY-2019[5]). All subjects or guardians were informed of the purpose and significance of the study and written informed consent was obtained. Results:Of the 908 patients, 622 were with bilateral keratoconus and 286 were with unilateral keratoconus. The median age of onset was 20(17, 26) years, and the median age of diagnosis was 21(18, 27) years. The ratio of males to females was 3.05∶1.There were 9.80%(89/908) of the patients having a history of allergy, 25.55%(232/908) having a history of other systemic diseases, and 1.98%(18/908) having a family history of keratoconus.Of the 1 476 affected eyes, 27.57%(407/1 476) were diagnosed as severe keratoconus, and 61.94%(568/917) had a history of eye rubbing. The medians of sphericity, cylindricity, IOP, corrected IOP, Ks, thinnest corneal thickness (TCT), anterior corneal surface elevation (AE) and posterior corneal surface elevation (PE) were -4.00(-7.00, -1.75)D, -3.50(-6.00, -1.50)D, 12.00(10.30, 13.80)mmHg, 15.40(13.60, 17.00)mmHg, 49.85(46.40, 54.90)D, 460.00(425.00, 490.00)μm, 21.00(13.00, 34.75)μm, 51.00(33.00, 75.00)μm, respectively. The spherical refraction, IOP and corrected IOP were lower and the cylindrical refraction was higher in patients at age <21 years than in patients at age 21~<31 years, and the TCT of patients at age <21 years was higher than that at age ≥31 years, and the differences were statistically significant (all at P<0.05). Compared with female patients, male patients had younger onset age, lower spherical refraction, IOP and corrected IOP, as well as higher cylindrical refraction, AE and PE, showing statistically significant differences (all at P<0.05). The spherical refraction and IOP of male patients were lower than those of female patients at age <21 years, and the cylindrical refraction was higher in males than in females among the patients at age 21~<31 years, and the differences were statistically significant (both at P<0.05). Among the patients with onset age <21 years and diagnosis age <21 years, the ratio of males to females in patients with severe keratoconus was higher than those with mild and moderate disease, and the difference was statistically significant (both at P<0.05). Older age of onset was a protective factor for disease severity in keratoconus (odds ratio=0.981, 95% confidence interval: 0.963~0.999). Conclusions:The younger the onset age of keratoconus patients, the more severe the disease.Among the patients with severe keratoconus, there were more male patients, and males have a younger onset age and severer conditions. It is suggested that early screening of keratoconus in children and adolescents should be strengthened in clinical work, and more active prevention and treatment measures should be taken for younger patients, especially males.

Journal of Medical Biomechanics 2021;36(2):E304-E308
Objective To compare the differences in plantar kinetics between older male adults and young male adults during walking, and to explore the influences of aging on plantar kinetics. Methods The in-shoe plantar sensory measurement system was used to collect and compare left foot parameters of 13 older men and 14 young men during tandem walk, including contact time, beginning of contact in percentage of roll over process (%ROP), and end of contact in %ROP, peak pressure, instant of peak pressure in %ROP, maximum mean pressure, pressure-time integral, maximum force, instant of maximum force in %ROP, mean force and force-time integral. Results Beside media arch, the contact time on all regions of older men was longer, whereas, the beginning of contact in %ROP on lateral heel, lateral arch was greater, and the end of contact in %ROP on medial heel and 2nd-3rd metatarsal head was smaller compared with young men. The maximum force and mean force on the whole foot region, and the maximum mean pressure and maximum force on 2nd-3rd metatarsal head of older people were significantly lower; the pressure-time integral on the whole foot region, the 4th-5th metatarsal head, the 2nd -5th toes, and the force-time integral on the whole foot region, medial heel, lateral heel and 2nd -5th toes were significantly higher compared with young men. Conclusions During tandem walking, plantar fascia dysfunction might be one of the main reasons for the decline of postural control ability, and the contraction enhancement of flexor digitorum longus and flexor digitorum brevis could compensate for postural stability improvement in older men.

Objective To determine whether relative abundance of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutations in plasma predicts clinical response to epidermal growth factor receptor-tyrosine kinase inhibitors (EGFR-TKIs) in patients with advanced lung adenocarcinoma. Methods In this prospective study, adult patients with advanced lung adenocarcinoma were enrolled in our hospital from 1 April 2016 to 1 January 2017. EGFR mutations in tumor tissues were detected by ADx-amplification refractory mutation system (ADx-ARMS). EGFR mutations of plasma free tumor DNA were detected by ADx-ARMS and ADx-super amplification refractory mutation system (ADx-SuperARMS) at the same time. Patients with EGFR-mutant in tumor tissues and receiving EGFR-TKIs were finally enrolled. Plasma mutation-positive patients with both methods were high abundance group.Patients with positive mutations by ADx-SuperARMS but negative by ADx-ARMS were medium abundance group. Mutation-negative patients with both methods were recognized as low abundance group. The correlation between EGFR mutation abundance and clinical response to EGFR-TKIs were analyzed. Results Among 71 patients enrolled, 42 harbored EGFR mutations in plasma were detected by ADx-ARMS, while 53 were found by ADx-SuperARMS.There were 42 patients in high abundance group, 11 in medium group while the other 18 in low group. The objective response rates (ORRs) were 69.0%,7/11 and 10/18 in high, medium and low groups, respectively. The difference was significant between high and low abundances groups (P=0.006). Median progression-free survival (PFS) in high, medium and low groups were 11.0, 8.5 and 9.0 monthes, respectively (P<0.001). In patients with tumor 19-Del, the ORRs were 70.4%,5/7 and 6/11 in high, medium and low abundance groups, respectively. The median PFS of high abundance group was significantly longer than the other two groups (12.0 monthes vs 9.0, 9.0 monthes). As to subjects with L858R mutation, the ORRs were 10/15,2/4 and 3/6,respectively, with median PFS 9.6, 5.5 and 9.5 monthes. Conclusions The relative abundance of EGFR mutations in plasma predicts clinical response to EGFR-TKIs in patients with advanced lung adenocarcinoma. The higher the mutation abundance is, the better the efficacy of EGFR-TKIs is.

Journal of Medical Biomechanics 2018;33(2):E163-E167
Objective To compare the differences in long-term jogging and Tai Chi in terms of neuromuscular latency and time to peak of surface electromyography (EMG) in older males during lateral sudden perturbation. In addition, an effective means to enhance neuromuscular response and muscle contraction efficiency of older males during lateral postural challenges was investigated. Methods Postural reactions of young males, older sedentary male controls (without regular exercises), older male joggers (with long-term jogging practice), and older male Tai Chi participants (with long-term Tai Chi practice) were evoked by means of a sudden unpredictable lateral translation platform. Surface EMG signals of peroneus longus, anterior tibialis, gluteus medius, and erector spinae were collected by an EMG detection and analysis system. Results The latencies of peroneus longus, anterior tibialis, and gluteus medius were delayed in the older sedentary male controls compared with those in young males. The neuromuscular reactions of anterior tibialis and erector spinae in older Tai Chi male participants were faster than those of older sedentary male controls. The contraction speeds of peroneus longus, anterior tibialis, and gluteus medius in young males were higher than those in three older groups during sudden lateral perturbations. Conclusions Long-term Tai Chi practice can enhance the responses of ankle and trunk muscles of older males during lateral postural challenges, but it has little effect on the muscle contraction efficiency of older males.
