1.Cardiovascular risk in medical students: Is living alone a factor?.

INTRODUCTION
Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are a leading global health concern. Modifiable behavioral risk factors are increasingly recognized in young adults, especially among medical students who often live independently. This study investigated the association between living alone and modifiable cardiovascular risk factors—sleep quality, sodium intake, physical activity, and body mass index (BMI)—among medical students at UERMMMCI during the 2022-2023 academic year.
METHODSResearchers conducted an analytical cross-sectional study among 220 medical students. Validated tools were used: Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Scored Sodium Questionnaire, International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ), and BMI classification. Researchers performed statistical analyses using Chi-square tests and calculated relative risks (RR) with 95% confidence intervals.
RESULTSA significant positive association was found between living alone and poor sleep quality (RR 2.132 p = 0.047). No significant associations were observed between living alone and sodium intake (RR 0.96 p = 0.6868), physical activity (RR 1.18 p = 0.2239), or BMI (RR 1.03 p = 0.7367).
CONCLUSIONAmong the studied cardiovascular risk factors, only poor sleep quality was significantly more prevalent among students living alone. These findings highlight the importance of interventions targeting sleep hygiene in this demographic.

2.Expert consensus on fundus photograph-based cardiovascular risk assessment using artificial intelligence technology.

		                        			Cardiovascular risk assessment is a basic tenet of the prevention of cardiovascular disease. Conventional risk assessment models require measurements of blood pressure, blood lipids, and other health-related information prior to assessment of risk via regression models. Compared with traditional approaches, fundus photograph-based cardiovascular risk assessment using artificial intelligence (AI) technology is novel, and has the advantages of immediacy, non-invasiveness, easy performance, and low cost. The Health Risk Assessment and Control Committee of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, in collaboration with the Chinese Society of Cardiology and the Society of Health Examination, invited multi-disciplinary experts to form a panel to develop the present consensus, which includes relevant theories, progress in research, and requirements for AI model development, as well as applicable scenarios, applicable subjects, assessment processes, and other issues associated with applying AI technology to assess cardiovascular risk based on fundus photographs. A consensus was reached after multiple careful discussions on the relevant research, and the needs of the health management industry in China and abroad, in order to guide the development and promotion of this new technology.

		                        			The cardiovascular health index (CVH) is a composite index consisting of 7 CVH metrics (CVHM) to evaluate the cardiovascular health status in the population. CVH has been proven to be closely related to a variety of health outcomes and widely used in the prevention of many diseases and the evaluation of intervention effectiveness. 6.Reference values for carotid artery intima-media thickness among community adult dwellers in Shenzhen City.

		                        			Objective: To establish reference values for carotid intima-media thickness (CIMT) of adult dwellers in Shenzhen City. Methods: The study was conducted based on the Shenzhen heart failure epidemiological survey from 2021 to 2022. In this survey, residents aged 18 years and above in Shenzhen were selected by using a multi-stage stratified random sampling method. General information, cardiovascular disease (CVD) related behavior and carotid ultrasound examination and etc. were collected from the participants. People with CVD factors, a history of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, carotid plaque or having no carotid ultrasound examination results were excluded. The parameter regression model based on fractional polynomial was used to establish the reference values of CIMT by age and sex. Results: A total of 2 163 healthy individuals were enrolled in the final analysis, including 576 males (26.6%) and 1 587 females (73.4%). The fractional polynomial regression of the CIMT mean and standard deviation was obtained. For men, the regression was meanCIMT=0.324 7+0.006 9×age and SDCIMT=0.076 9+0.001 2×age. For women, the regression was meanCIMT=0.354 9+0.005 4×age and SDCIMT=0.041 6+0.002 0×age. Conclusion: The age and sex reference values for CIMT of adult people in Shenzhen established in this study could provide the latest reference standards for early screening of subclinical CVD.

7.Cardiovascular health status of Chinese adults based on "Life's Essential 8" score.

		                        			Objective: To assess the cardiovascular health status of adults in China by using the "Life's Essential 8" score, and provide reference for the development and improvement of cardiovascular disease prevention and control policies and measures. Methods: Chronic Disease and Nutrition Surveillance was conducted in 298 counties/districts in 2015 in 31 provinces (autonomous regions, municipalities) across China, multi-stage stratified cluster random sampling was used to select 45 households in each village or neighborhood, and 20 households were further selected to conduct dietary surveys. In this study, a total of 70 093 adults aged ≥20 years who completed the dietary survey and had complete information were included, their cardiovascular health status were assessed by using the "Life's Essential 8" score, a cardiovascular health scoring standard released by the American Heart Association in 2022. All results were adjusted using complex design-based sampling weights to achieve a better estimate of the population. Results: In 2015, the overall cardiovascular health score of Chinese adults aged ≥20 years was 73.3±12.6, the score was significantly higher in women (77.9±11.6) than in men (68.7±11.8), and higher in urban area (74.5±12.8) than in rural area (71.9±12.2), the differences were significant (P<0.001). It was estimated that about 0.25% (95%CI: 0.16%-0.33%) of adults in China had cardiovascular health score of 100, and 33.0% (95%CI: 31.6%-34.3%), 63.2% (95%CI: 62.1%-64.3%), and 3.9% (95%CI: 3.5%-4.2%) of adults had high, moderate and low cardiovascular health scores, respectively. The proportion of those with high cardiovascular health scores was relatively low in men, those with low education level, those with low income, those living in rural areas, and those living in southwest China (P<0.001). Of the eight factors, diet had the lowest mean score (46.0, 95%CI: 44.7-47.3), followed by blood pressure (59.4, 95%CI: 58.2-60.6) and tobacco exposure (61.4, 95%CI: 60.6-62.2). Conclusions: The cardiovascular health status of two-thirds of adult population in China needs to be improved. Diet, tobacco exposure, and blood pressure are the factors affecting the cardiovascular health of Chinese population, to which close attention needs to be paid, and men, rural residents, and those with lower socioeconomic status are key groups in cardiovascular health promotion.

9.Research progress on the relation and related mechanism of night shift work and cardiovascular disease.

		                        			Cardiovascular disease is a class of diseases involving the heart or blood vessels, which accounts for about one-third of all deaths worldwide each year. Unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity, smoking and excessive alcohol consumption are all risk factors for cardiovascular disease. With the increasing number of night shift workers, the number of patients with cardiovascular disease has increased, and night shift work has gradually become a risk factor of cardiovascular disease. At present, the mechanism of cardiovascular disease caused by night shift work is still unclear. 10.Joint association of depression symptoms and 10-year risk of ischemic cardiovascular disease with the cardiovascular disease in middle-aged and elderly people in China.

		                        			OBJECTIVE:
		                        			To explore joint association of depression symptoms and 10-year risk of ischemic cardiovascular disease (CVD) in middle-aged and elderly people in China.
		                        		
		                        			METHODS:
		                        			Based on China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Study(CHARLS)database using 2011 baseline data and the follow-up cohort data of 2013, 2015 and 2018, describe the distribution characteristics of baseline depressive symptoms and 10-year risk of ischemic cardiovascular disease in 2011. Cox survival analysis model was used to analyze the individual, independent and joint association of depression symptoms and 10-year risk of ischemic cardiovascular disease with cardiovascular disease.
		                        		
		                        			RESULTS:
		                        			A total of 9 412 subjects were enrolled. The detection rate of depressive symptoms at baseline was 44.7%, and the 10-year middle and high risk of ischemic cardiovascular disease was 13.62%. During an average follow-up of 6.19 (6.19±1.66) years, 1 401 cases of cardiovascular disease were diagnosed in 58 258 person-years, revealing an overall incidence density of 24.048/1 000 person-years. After adjusting the factors, in terms of individual impact, the participants with depressive symptoms had a higher risk of developing CVD (HR=1.263, 95%CI: 1.133-1.408), while medium to high risk of ischemic cardiovascular disease had a higher risk of developing CVD (HR=1.892, 95%CI: 1.662-2.154). Among independent influences, participants with depressive symptoms had a higher risk of developing CVD (HR=1.269, 95% CI: 1.138-1.415), while medium to high risk of 10-year risk of ischemic cardiovascular disease had a higher risk of developing CVD (HR=1.898, 95%CI: 1.668-2.160). Joint impact result showed the incidence of cardiovascular disease in the low risk of 10-year risk of ischemic cardiovascular disease with depressive symptoms group, middle and high risk of 10-year risk of ischemic cardiovascular disease without depressive symptoms group, and 10-year middle and high risk of ischemic cardiovascular disease with depressive symptoms group were 1.390, 2.149, and 2.339 times higher than that of low risk of 10-year risk of ischemic cardiovascular disease without depressive symptoms (P < 0.001).
		                        		
		                        			CONCLUSION
		                        			The superimposed depression symptoms of the middle and high-risk population at the 10-year risk of ischemic cardiovascular disease will aggravate the risk of cardiovascular disease in middle-aged and elderly people.
