To explore the diversity of non-specific esterase activity in different strains of adult male and female Culex pipiens pallens, the NSE activity of single mosquito was determined by using the ?-naphthalene acetic acid ester (?-NA) as the substrate and solid blue B salt (fast blue B salt) as the developer. The results showed the NSE activities of anti-DDVP (Rd) and anti-Propoxur (Rp) strains of Culex pipiens pallens were significantly higher than that of sensitive (S) strains, and the NSE activity of anti-Cypermethrin (Rc) strains of Culex pipiens pallens was similar to that of S strain. As for the S,Rd,Rp and Rc strains of 3-day-old adult male and female Culex pipiens pallens, the NSE activity of female mosquito was higher than that of male mosquito.
