Histopathological appearances of uncinate process mocous membrane on patients treated by functional endoscopic sinus surgery

Abstract:
A prospective study was carried out on 39 sinusitis patients treated by functional endoscopic sinus surgery at Gia Dinh People Hospital and Medical – Pharmaceutical University hospitals from January to July 2004. Results: 43.6% samples presented polyp image. Severity of sinusitis on X-ray and CT scan imagines was: mild 12.8%, moderate 71.8%, and severe 15.4%. 17 cases (85%) were uncinate process polyp. In sinus polyp patients detected by clinical symptoms or in surgery, micrograpghia of uncinate process showed some changes similar to images of typical polyp even though there wasn’t any degeneration of uncinate process in macrographia. The rate of polyp increased according to the number of year experienced sinusitis. The severe the sinusitis was positive correlated with high rate of polyp
