- Abstract: The present narrative review thoroughly investigates recent publications on custom surgical guides for orthognathic surgery, focusing on the evaluating their advancements, efficacy, and precision, particularly in terms of enhancing the surgical outcomes. Key areas, such as technical limitations, patient-specific challenges, and cost and accessibility issues, are explored. A significant finding is the scarcity of studies employing robust statistical methods, making many conclusions preliminary and underscoring the need for more rigorous research studies. Future studies should aim to provide a comprehensive, statistically validated assessment of the role and impact of custom surgical guides in orthognathic surgery. While this review highlights their potential, it also identifies critical gaps in the existing literature.
