Abstract:
Acute ischemic mitral regurgitation(AIMR)is a severe life-threatening cardiovascular disease often caused by chordae tendineae or papillary muscles rupture or leaflet tethering of the mitral valve due to abnormal ventricular wall motion.Symptoms include dyspnea, palpitations, pulmonary edema, cardiogenic shock, etc.Treatment is extremely challenging.Traditional methods include medication and surgery, but medication may be ineffective for some patients and surgery can be too risky for others.Transcatheter edge-to-edge repair(TEER)has been explored in patients with chronic mitral regurgitation to alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life.TEER provides a novel option for the treatment of AIMR.In this article,we review the role, technical principles, challenges, and prospects of TEER in the treatment of AIMR.
