Abstract: Midwifery plays an important role in guaranteeing the maternal and newborn health. This paper elaborated the developing history of midwifery in our country and the developing status home and abroad. This paper also pointed out the problems existing in the development of midwifery in our country such as the shortage of midwivies,functional shrinkage,technology degeneration and imperfect education system,etc. We should promote the construction and development of midwifery in our country through building higher education system,forming a larger midwifery team,and promoting the midwifery legislation.
