Abstract:
Objective To investigate Correlation between parents′ perception of uncertainty and parenting self-efficacy among mothers with hospitalized preterm infants. Methods Totally 160 mothers with hospitalized preterm infants were investigated using the Chinese version of Parents′ Perception of Uncertainty Scale ( PPUS) and the Chinese version of Parenting Sense of Competence Scale ( C-PSOC) . Results The total score of uncertainty in illness and parenting self-efficacy were ( 84. 53 ± 12. 48 ) and ( 31. 17 ± 0. 54 ) respectively, with the total score of uncertainty in illness negative correlation to parenting self-efficacy ( r =-0. 410,P<0. 01). Conclusions Uncertainty in illness among mothers with hospitalized preterm infants was closely related to parenting self-efficacy. Therefore, nursing staff should assess the situation of hospitalized premature mothers′uncertainty in illness, provide information support to reduce their uncertainty, then improve their parenting self-efficacy, promote maternal role adaptation.
