Abstract:
BK virus (BKV) belongs to a subtype of human polyomavirus, which was first reported in 1971. It is not pathogenic and lurks in urinary epithelial cells for a long time after infection in normal people. In recent years, BKV has been found to be reactivated and replicated in patients after renal transplantation, resulting viruria and viremia, which in turn leads to BKV-associated nephropathy (BKVAN) and finally cause renal allograft dysfunction. Therefore, the research on BKV and its associated nephropathy is becoming more and more in-depth. This review describes the epidemiology, laboratory diagnosis and treatment of BKV.
