- Abstract: Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disease, which is usually mediated by antibodies to acetylcholine receptors at the neuromuscular junction. It is commonly treated with cholinesterase inhibitors such as pyridostigmine bromide. Although cardiovascular events with the drug are rare,it is very important to early recognize disease changes and be alert to potential cardiovascular events in patients with myasthenia gravis. Therefore,we report a case of an elderly female patient with myasthenia gravis developing acute myocardial infarction and then sudden cardiac death following anticholinesterase therapy, and discuss the possible causes of adverse cardiovascular events based on this case.
