Abstract:
With rapid aging of populations, the incidence of intertrochanteric fractures in the elderly is increasing. Surgery is the preferred treatment for the fractures. The internal fixation methods commonly used for the fractures in clinical practice include dynamic hip screw (DHS), proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA), Gamma nail, InterTan intramedullary nail, and proximal femoral bionic nail (PFBN) which stemmed from the "lever reconstruction balance" theory. However, there has been no unified theoretical guidance on the early weight-bearing time for affected limbs after different internal fixation methods. This article reviews the current situation of early weight-bearing in elderly patients with femoral intertrochanteric fracture after treatment with different internal fixations, with a view to providing references for clinical healthcare professionals.
