ObjectiveTo investigate the uric acid-lowering effects and mechanisms of acacetin on hyperuricemia (HUA) in mice. MethodsOteracil potassium and adenine were used to establish the mouse model of HUA. Male Kunming mice (n=48) were randomized into six groups: control, model, low-dose (12.5 mg·kg-1) acacetin, medium-dose (25 mg·kg-1) acacetin, high-dose (50 mg·kg-1) acacetin, and allopurinol (10 mg·kg-1). Each group received continuous gavage administration for 21 days. An automatic biochemical analyzer was used to measure the levels of uric acid (UA), creatinine (Cr), urea nitrogen (BUN), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST). Additionally, the activity of xanthine oxidase (XOD) in the liver and the levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1β, and IL-18 in the serum were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Pathological changes in the renal tissue were observed by hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining. Western blot was employed to determine the levels of glucose transporter 9 (GLUT9), urate transporter 1 (URAT1), phospho-NF-κB p65 (p-NF-κB p65), and nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor pyrin domain-containing 3 (NLRP3) in the renal tissue. ResultsCompared with the control group, the model group showed elevated levels of UA, Cr, BUN, ALT, and AST, increased activity of XOD in the liver(P<0.01), raised levels of TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-18 in the serum(P<0.01), and significantly up-regulated expression of GLUT9, URAT1, p-NF-κB p65, and NLRP3 in the renal tissue(P<0.01). Compared with the model group, acacetin reduced the UA level in a dose-dependent manner, significantly improved liver and kidney functions, decreased the XOD activity in the liver, ameliorated the pathological changes in the renal tissue, down-regulated the expression of GLUT9, URAT1, p-NF-κB p65 and NLRP3 in the renal tissue(P<0.01), and lowered the levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, and IL-18 in the serum(P<0.01). ConclusionAcacetin can ameliorate HUA by decreasing uric acid production, increasing uric acid excretion, and inhibiting the NF-κB/NLRP3 signaling pathway. Therefore, acacetin may be a potential drug for the treatment of HUA.

ObjectiveTo observe the effects of Yangjing Zhongyutang (YJZYT) on mitochondrial biogenesis and oxidative stress damage mediated by the silent information regulator 1 (SIRT1)/peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator-1alpha (PGC-1α) signaling pathway in cyclophosphamide (CTX)-induced rats with diminished ovarian reserve (DOR), and to explore its mechanism in improving ovarian reserve function and follicular development. MethodsForty-two 8-week-old female SD rats with normal estrous cycles were randomly divided into a blank control group (n=7) and a model group (n=35). Rats in the model group received a single intraperitoneal injection of CTX (90 mg·kg-1) to establish the DOR model. After modeling, estrous cycles were monitored for 7 consecutive days, and model success was confirmed based on criteria for estrous cycle disruption. After successful modeling, rats were divided into groups for intervention: estradiol valerate group (0.09 mg·kg-1), and YJZYT high-, medium-, and low-dose groups (19.98, 9.99, 5.00 g·kg-1). The blank control group and model group were given an equal volume of distilled water by gavage. All groups received daily gavage once for 4 consecutive weeks. The general state, body weight, and ovarian wet weight of rats were observed and recorded, and the ovarian organ index was calculated. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to measure serum levels of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH), luteinizing hormone (LH), estradiol (E2), anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH), superoxide dismutase (SOD), and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px). Hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining was performed to observe ovarian histomorphological changes and follicular development status. Immunofluorescence was used to detect reactive oxygen species (ROS) expression levels. Colorimetric assays were employed to measure adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and malondialdehyde (MDA) content in ovarian tissues. Quantitative Real-time polymerase chain reaction (Real-time PCR) was used to detect mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy number and the mRNA expression levels of key genes including SIRT1, PGC-1α, nuclear respiratory factor 1 (NRF1), and mitochondrial transcription factor A (TFAM). Western blot was performed to detect the protein expression levels of SIRT1, PGC-1α, NRF1, and TFAM. ResultsCompared with the blank group, rats in the model group exhibited disrupted estrous cycles, obviously reduced body weight, and decreased ovarian index (P<0.05). Ovarian histopathology revealed cortical thinning, loose structure, and a significant reduction in both primordial and growing follicles (P<0.01). Serum FSH and LH levels were significantly elevated (P<0.01), while E2 and AMH levels were obviously reduced (P<0.05, P<0.01). ATP content and mtDNA copy number decreased in ovarian tissue (P<0.01), ROS expression increased, MDA levels rose, while SOD and GSH-Px activities obviously decreased (P<0.05, P<0.01), mRNA and protein expression levels of SIRT1, PGC-1α, NRF1, and TFAM were obviously downregulated (P<0.05, P<0.01). After treatment, compared with the model group, body weight and ovarian index obviously recovered in rats administered various doses of YJZYT (P<0.05), serum E2 and AMH levels increased, while FSH and LH levels obviously decreased (P<0.05, P<0.01), ovarian tissue ATP content and mtDNA copy number were up-regulated, ROS and MDA levels decreased, and antioxidant enzymes SOD and GSH-Px activity obviously increased (P<0.05, P<0.01), Gene and protein expression levels related to the SIRT1/PGC-1α /NRF1/TFAM signaling pathway were obviously up-regulated compared to the model group (P<0.05, P<0.01), HE staining revealed that ovarian structure gradually recovered to integrity in all treatment groups, with a obviously increase in the number of primordial and growing follicles (P<0.05, P<0.01). Granulosa cells were neatly arranged, indicating marked improvement in ovarian function. ConclusionYJZYT may improve ovarian function and follicular development in rats with diminished ovarian reserve by activating the SIRT1/PGC-1α signaling pathway, promoting mitochondrial biogenesis, enhancing mitochondrial function, and alleviating oxidative stress damage.

ObjectiveTo explore the possible mechanisms by which ligustilide (LIG) exerts neuroprotective effects on ischemic stroke (IS) by inhibiting the release of neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs), promoting blood-brain barrier repair, and alleviating post-ischemic neuroinflammation, thereby providing a new direction for IS treatment. MethodsA middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) model was established in rats. The rats were divided into the sham operation (Sham) group, model (Model) group, low- and high-dose LIG groups (20, 40 mg·kg-1), and the NET inhibitor CI-amidine group (CI-amidine, 10 mg·kg-1). Drug treatments were administered for 3 days. Neurological injury after ischemia was evaluated by 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) staining, neurological deficit scoring, and brain index measurement. Flow cytometry and Western blot were used to analyze changes in neutrophil expression. Immunofluorescence was used to observe the fluorescence intensity of the NET marker citrullinated histone H3 (H3Cit). Western blot was performed to detect the expression of blood-brain barrier tight junction-related proteins and inflammatory factors, including interleukin-18 (IL-18) and interleukin-1β (IL-1β). ResultsCompared with the Sham group, the Model group exhibited significant brain tissue injury (P<0.05), significantly increased neutrophil numbers and NET expression (P<0.05), significantly impaired blood-brain barrier permeability (P<0.05), and significantly increased expression of inflammatory factors (P<0.05). Compared with the Model group, both low- and high-dose LIG significantly alleviated brain tissue injury in rats (P<0.01), inhibited neutrophil numbers and NET expression (P<0.01), reduced blood-brain barrier damage (P<0.01), and suppressed the expression of inflammatory factors IL-18 and IL-1β (P<0.01), thereby ultimately exerting a neuroprotective effect. ConclusionThe neuroprotective effect of LIG in rats with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury may be related to inhibition of neutrophils and the NETs induced by them.

ObjectiveThis paper aims to investigate the protective effects of the Tanyu Tongzhi Youhua prescription(TYTZP) against myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury in rats via regulation of the cyclic GMP-AMP synthase (cGAS)/stimulator of interferon genes (STING) signaling pathway. MethodsFifty-six 8-week-old male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into sham group, model group, ticagrelor group (32.4 mg·kg-1), RU320521 (RU.521cGAS inhibitors) group (5 mL·kg-1), groups of TYTZP with low dose (3.6 g·kg-1), medium dose (7.2 g·kg-1), and high dose (14.4 g·kg-1), with eight rats per group. The ticagrelor group and groups of TYTZP with different doses received pre-treatment for seven days according to their respective protocols. The RU.521 group received an intraperitoneal injection one hour before modeling. A rat model of the no-reflow phenomenon in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury was established by ligating the left anterior descending coronary artery in situ. Myocardial no-reflow area was determined by thioflavin staining. Histopathological morphology of myocardial tissue was observed via hematoxylin and eosin (HE) staining. Cardiac function was detected by echocardiography. Myocardial microcirculation function change was observed by using real-time myocardial contrast echocardiography. The myocardial enzyme levels in the serum were measured by serum biochemical analysis. The double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) levels were detected by using PicoGreen. The protein expression of cGAS, STING, and nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) p65 in myocardial tissue was detected by Western blot. The levels of cardiac troponin Ⅰ (cTNⅠ), cardiac troponin T (cTNT), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in the peripheral blood were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). ResultsCompared with the sham group, the model group showed a significantly increased myocardial no-reflow area (P<0.01). Myocardial fiber rupture and disarray and inflammatory cell infiltration were observed by HE staining. The ultrasound results indicated that left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and left ventricular fractional shortening (LVFS) (P<0.01) were significantly decreased. Real-time myocardial contrast echocardiography showed that the peak time of myocardial blood perfusion was significantly prolonged (P<0.01), and the levels of creatine kinase (CK), creatine kinase isoenzyme (CK-MB), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), cTNⅠ, cTNT, and dsDNA were significantly elevated (P<0.01). Western blot results showed that the myocardial protein expressions of cGAS, STING, and NF-κB p65 were upregulated (P<0.01). ELISA results showed that the inflammatory factors in the serum such as IL-6, IL-1β, and TNF-α were increased (P<0.01). Compared with the model group, the group of the TYTZP significantly reduced the levels of myocardial enzyme, troponins, and dsDNA (P<0.01, P<0.05), improved cardiac function and myocardial microcirculation, alleviated histopathological morphology and inflammatory infiltration, inhibited activation of the cGAS/STING pathway, reduced the expression of NF-κB p65 (P<0.01, P<0.05), and inhibited inflammatory response. ConclusionThe TYTZP mitigates the no-reflow phenomenon in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury, and its mechanism is associated with inhibiting the activation of the cGAS/STING pathway and attenuating inflammatory responses.

Background Depressive symptoms have become a significant factor affecting the physical and mental health of the occupational population, and workers in petroleum refining enterprises face multiple stressors in their work environment. Objective To explore the impact of occupational noise exposure on depressive symptoms among workers in a petroleum refining enterprise. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted in July 2024 using a questionnaire survey among workers of a petroleum refining enterprise in Hainan Province. Basic information of the subjects was collected. The Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale (CES-D) was used to measure depressive symptoms, the Chinese version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scale was used to assess sleep quality, and the Chinese version of the Effort-Reward Imbalance (ERI) scale was used to evaluate occupational stress. Chi-square test was employed to compare the differences in reporting depressive symptoms among populations with different characteristics. Binary logistic regression models were used to analyze the impact of occupational noise exposure and other factors on depressive symptoms. Results The overall positive rate of depressive symptoms in the study population was 42.7%. The results of the multifactor analysis indicated that compared with the control group, employees in both the low-exposure and high-exposure groups had elevated odds of depressive symptoms, with OR (95%CI) of 2.244 (1.131, 4.454) and 1.970 (1.009, 3.850), respectively. This association remained robust after adjusting for potential confounders, including gender, age, work tenure, and other occupational exposures. Additionally, female [OR (95%CI)=1.483 (1.039, 2.118)], exposure to benzene, toluene, or xylene [OR (95%CI)=1.621 (1.208, 2.174)], sleep disturbance [OR (95%CI)=3.772 (2.942, 4.838)], and occupational stress [OR (95%CI)=2.018 (1.575, 2.585)] were also significantly associated with higher odds of depressive symptoms. Conclusion The positive rate of depressive symptoms is relatively high among employees in this petrochemical enterprise, and occupational noise exposure may be a risk factor for depressive symptoms.

International Eye Science 2026;26(4):662-667
Acquired paralytic strabismus is a common neuromuscular disorder in adults, characterized by diplopia, visual confusion, impaired ocular motility, and ocular deviation, which severely affects the patient's quality of life and overall health. The disease has a complex etiology, encompassing multiple pathological mechanisms such as vascular pathologies, trauma, inflammation, neoplasms, and immune-related disorders. Treatment primarily focuses on addressing the underlying cause. While conventional Western approaches, such as medication and surgery, can alleviate symptoms, some carry the risk of adverse effects, and their long-term recurrence rates warrant careful consideration. Traditional Chinese medicine utilizes distinctive therapies such as herbal medicine, acupuncture, and other adjunctive therapies, which have shown promising therapeutic effects but are constrained by a lack of high-quality evidence from large-scale randomized controlled trials. This review systematically summarizes recent advances in the etiological classification and traditional Chinese and Western medical treatments of acquired paralytic strabismus. It innovatively summarizes the clinical features associated with different causes, analyzes current therapeutic strategies and research landscape, aiming to inform clinical practice and suggest future research directions.

Chinese Journal of School Health 2026;47(2):222-226
Objective:
To explore the latent classes of peer victimization among junior high school students, and to analyze the association between the characteristics of different classes and non suicidal self injury(NSSI) behavior,so as to provide scientific basis for the prevention and intervention of NSSI behavior among junior high school students.
Methods:
A census method was used to select 19 738 students from 16 junior high schools in a central urban area of Wuhan as research subjects from November to December 2024. The Multidimensional Peer Victimization Scale and a self designed NSSI questionnaire were used to assess peer victimization and NSSI behaviors. Latent profile analysis (LPA) was used to identify latent classes of peer victimization among students by sex. Binary Logistic regression model was used to analyze the association between latent classes of peer victimization and NSSI behavior among junior high school students of different genders.
Results:
Latent patterns of peer victimization among boys were classified into 4 groups:no victimization group (85.8%, n =8 874), low victimization-verbal type group (6.6%, n =682), low victimization-mixed type group (5.7%, n =587) and high victimization group (1.9%, n =195); girls were classified into 4 groups:no victimization group (87.0%, n =8 179), low victimization group (7.5%, n =702), high victimization-social type group (3.8%, n =360) and high victimization-physical type group (1.7%, n =159). After controlling for only child status, place of residence, parenting style, and self rated family socioeconomic status, binary Logistic regression analysis showed that the risk of NSSI behavior among boys increased sequentially in the low victimization-verbal type group( OR =4.14, 95% CI =3.22-5.31), low victimization-mixed type group ( OR =4.75, 95% CI =3.68-6.13), and high victimization group ( OR =8.26, 95% CI =5.83-11.71) compared to the no victimization group; the risks of NSSI behavior among girls increased sequentially in the low victimization group ( OR =3.06, 95% CI = 2.51-3.72), high victimization-social type group ( OR =4.01, 95% CI =3.13-5.15), and high victimization-physical type group ( OR =6.18, 95% CI =4.38-8.73) compared to the no victimization group (all P <0.05).
Conclusions
There are gender differences in the latent classes of peer victimization among junior high school students and the risk of NSSI behavior varies across different victimization classes. Targeted prevention and intervention should be implemented based on the gender of junior high school students and the characteristics of peer victimization students experience.
