In modern society, sugary foods have become an integral part of many people′s lives. However, excessive sugar consumption has adverse effects on both overall health and oral health, serving as a contributing factor to the global increasing incidence in oral diseases, cardiovascular diseases, cancers, obesity, and diabetes. In response to the health risks related to high-sugar diets, the World Health Organization (WHO) and World Dental Federation (FDI) have proposed initiatives and recommendations, with various governments implementing different policies and strategies to reduce sugar intake. Chinese government has also taken proactive measures. The "Healthy China Action (2019-2030)" initiative introduced by the State Council in 2019 established a crucial benchmark in limiting the average daily intake of added sugar to 25 g per person forward to 2030. Experts from Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the field of oral health have meticulously examined the impacts of sugar reduction on oral health, as well as strategies, methods, and practical considerations related to reducing sugar intake through several meeting and wrote the "Expert consensus: reducing free-sugar for caries prevention", which was subsequently reviewed and revised based on the feedback from multiple stakeholders. They have conducted thorough analyses of global trends in sugar reduction and best practices to provide valuable insights to China for crafting effective policies and strategies on sugar reduction. This consensus mainly includes the classification of free sugars, the latest scientific evidence on dental caries, recommendations from WHO on sugar-sweetened beverage taxes, nutrition labeling, advertising, food reform, adjusting supply systems, education, and promotion strategies, as well as sugar reduction actions taken by various governments around the world. Combining the actual situation in China, policy recommendations and authoritative popular science knowledge on sugar reduction for caries prevention to public are proposed to advocate for experts in multiple fields to focus on sugar reduction for caries prevention, promote the work process, and provide the scientific basis for oral health educators.

Salmonella enterica serovar Goldcoast isolates from Yangzhou were analyzed for assessment of their pathogenic and ge-nomic characteristics. From 2017 to 2023,eight strains were detected through foodborne disease surveillance and health check-ups.These strains exhibited resistance to two to seven antibiotic classes, and all strains bore a T57S mutation in the parC gene.Notably,50%(4/8)of the strains carried sulfonamide resistance genes(sul1 or sul3),and 37.5%(3/8)were positive for extended-spectrum beta-lactamase(ESBL)genes,including blaCTX-M-55 and blaTEM-1.Multilocus sequence typing(MLST)revealed that ST358(five strains)and ST2529(three strains)were the predominant sequence types, corresponding to CRISPR Ⅰ and Ⅱ groups, respectively.Single nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)phylogenetic analysis indicated a close genetic relationship between the case isolate Sal-2214 and strains from multiple regions, with a SNP difference≤20,thus suggesting potential inter-regional transmission. For example, one isolate from the stool of a 4-year-old child with diarrhea(Sal-2214)carried the beta-lactam resistance gene(blaCTX-M-55)and exhib-ited high resistance to cefotaxime(CTX)and ceftazidime(CAZ).These findings indicated that S.enterica Goldcoast emerged in Yang-zhou from 2022,and was characterized by multidrug resistance and a genetic relationship with strains from coastal regions. These find-ings highlight the need for enhanced resistance monitoring and trace-back studies to better understand the epidemiology and control the potential spread of this pathogen.

Obesity, as a chronic recurrent disease, has become a major public health challenge in China. To implement the requirements of the Healthy China Initiative (2019—2030), under domestic guidelines or consensus statements on overweight and obesity, and in alignment with the latest scientific advances globally, the Quality control protocol for adult overweight and obesity screening in health management (examination) institutions (2025 edition) was developed. This protocol was drafted by the Health Management Center of Shanghai Changzheng Hospital and formulated through multiple rounds of deliberation by experts in China’s health examination quality control field. The protocol establishes unified standards for screening facilities, personnel qualifications, and measurement or testing procedures. It defines specific screening items, outlines a standardized screening pathway, and sets requirements for the final medical review, ensuring the scientific validity, effectiveness, and safety of the screening process. The implementation of this protocol will enhance the consistency of weight management practices for adults across health examination institutions and strengthen the quality control of overweight and obesity screening programs.

Objective To develop the Ego Depletion Scale for Type 2 Diabetes Patients and evaluate its reliability and validity, and to provide a specific assessment tool for evaluating ego-depletion in self-management.Methods Guided by the self-control strength model, the initial scale was constructed through literature review,semi-structured interviews,2 rounds of expert consultation, and a pilot survey.A convenience sampling method was employed to recruit 460 patients with Type 2 Diabetes from the endocrinology department of a tertiary hospital in Wuhan,Hubei Province, between April and July 2024.They were randomly divided into 2 subsets for exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis. Results A total of 451 valid questionnaires were collected.Exploratory factor analysis extracted 6 common factors, with a cumulative variance contribution of 73.231%.In confirmatory factor analysis,an item was deleted due to failing to meet the standardized loading value criterion. The revised Ego Depletion Scale for Type 2 Diabetes Patients comprised 6 dimensions and 22 items. The total Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.911;split-half reliability was 0.744;the content validity index was 0.860.Correlation coefficients between the total score and scores of each dimension of the scale and the total score of the Self-Regulatory Fatigue Scale ranged from 0.558 to 0.946(P<0.001).Conclusion The scale exhibits robust reliability and validity, serving as a scientifically instrument for assessing ego depletion in patients with Type 2 Diabetes.

Spermatogenesis is a fundamental process that requires a tightly controlled epigenetic event in spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs). The mechanisms underlying the transition from SSCs to sperm are largely unknown. Most studies utilize gene knockout mice to explain the mechanisms. However, the production of genetically engineered mice is costly and time-consuming. In this study, we presented a convenient research strategy using an RNA interference (RNAi) and testicular transplantation approach. Histone H3 lysine 9 (H3K9) methylation was dynamically regulated during spermatogenesis. As Jumonji domain-containing protein 1A (JMJD1A) and Jumonji domain-containing protein 2C (JMJD2C) demethylases catalyze histone H3 lysine 9 dimethylation (H3K9me2), we firstly analyzed the expression profile of the two demethylases and then investigated their function. Using the convenient research strategy, we showed that normal spermatogenesis is disrupted due to the downregulated expression of both demethylases. These results suggest that this strategy might be a simple and alternative approach for analyzing spermatogenesis relative to the gene knockout mice strategy.

To guide clinical blood transfusion practices for pediatric patients, the National Health Commission has issued the health standard "Guideline for pediatric transfusion" (WS/T 795-2022). Blood transfusion is one of the most commonly used supportive treatments for children with hematological diseases. This guideline provides guidance and recommendations for blood transfusions in children with aplastic anemia, thalassemia, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, acute leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, immune thrombocytopenic purpura, and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura. This article presents the evidence and interpretation of the blood transfusion provisions for children with hematological diseases in the "Guideline for pediatric transfusion", aiming to assist in the understanding and implementing the blood transfusion section of this guideline.
