1.Systematic review of validation studies for the use of wearable smartwatches in the screening of atrial fibrillation

WSWs have the potential to reliably and continuously screen for AFib and detect it in a timely manner.The inconclusive results produced by WSWs are a significant problem. Once the inconclusive results are rectified, WSWs may be used for widespread screening of AFib in those people who are at high risk of developing AFib.
2.Phytochemical profile and nematicidal activity of a hydroalcoholic extract from Cazahuate flowers (Ipomoea pauciflora M. Martens & Galeotti) against Haemonchus contortus infective larvae

Haemonchus contortus (Hc) is a hematophagous parasite affecting the health and productivity of
flocks. The administration of chemical anthelmintic drugs (AH) is the common method of deworming;
however, generates resistance in the parasites to AH and it is a public health risk due to drug residues in
milk, meat and sub-products. Natural compounds from plants are explored to diminish this parasitosis,
improving their health and productivity, without the negative effects of AH. Ipomoea genus is a group
of climbing plants belonging to the Convulvulaceae family possessing perennial leaves and tuberous
roots. Medicinal properties has been attributed to this plant including nutritional agents, emetics,
diuretics, diaphoretics, purgatives and pesticides. The objective of this study was assessing the in vitro
nematocidal activity of a hydroalcoholic extract (HA-E) obtained from Ipomoea pauciflora (Cazahuate)
flowers against Hc infective larvae (L3) and to identify its phytochemical profile (PhC-P). The assay was
carried out using microtiter plates (MTP). Four HA-E concentrations were assessed and Ivermectin and
distilled water were used as positive and negative control groups, respectively. Approximately 100 Hc
L3 were deposited in each well (n=12) and incubated at 25–35°C for 7 days. Data were analyzed using
ANOVA and a General Linear Model (GLM) followed by Tukey test (P<0.05). The treatments showing a
concentration-dependent effect (CDE) were analyzed to identify their 50% and 90% lethal concentrations
(CL50, 90) via a Probit Analysis. The highest mortality was observed at 50 mg/mL (82.64 ± 0.71%) and
the lowest at 6.25 mg/mL (56.46 ± 2.49%), showing a CDE with increasing mortality from 6.25 to 50
mg/mL. The PhC-P revealed the presence of alkaloids, coumarins, flavonoids, tannins and triterpenes/
sterols. A HA-E from flowers of I. pauciflora will be considered to assess its potential use in the control
of haemonchosis in small ruminants.
3.Radiofrequency in arthroscopic shoulder surgery: a systematic review

Background:
Radiofrequency has seen an increase in use in orthopedics including cartilage lesion debridement in the hip and knee as well as many applications in arthroscopic shoulder surgery. The purpose of this systematic review is to evaluate the safety and usage of radiofrequency in the shoulder.
Methods:
This systematic review was registered with PROSPERO (international registry) and followed the preferred reporting items for systematic review and meta-analysis protocols (PRISMA-P) guidelines. Embase and PubMed were searched using: “shoulder,” “rotator cuff,” “biceps,” “acromion” AND “monopolar,” “bipolar,” “ablation,” “coblation,” and “radiofrequency ablation.” The title and abstract review were performed independently. Any discrepancies were addressed through open discussion.
Results:
A total of 63 studies were included. Radiofrequency is currently utilized in impingement syndrome, fracture fixation, instability, nerve injury, adhesive capsulitis, postoperative stiffness, and rotator cuff disease. Adverse events, namely superficial burns, are limited to case reports and case series, with higher-level evidence demonstrating safe use when used below the temperature threshold. Bipolar radiofrequency may decrease operative time and decrease the cost per case.
Conclusions
Shoulder radiofrequency has a wide scope of application in various shoulder pathologies. Shoulder radiofrequency is safe; however, requires practitioners to be cognizant of the potential for thermal burn injuries. Bipolar radiofrequency may represent a more efficacious and economic treatment modality. Safety precautions have been executed by institutions to cut down patient complications from shoulder radiofrequency. Future research is required to determine what measures can be taken to further minimize the risk of thermal burns.
4.Nutritional Status of Children below Five Years in Malaysia: Anthropometric Analyses from the Third National Health and Morbidity Survey III (NHMS, 2006)

The Third National Health and Morbidity Survey (NHMS III) was conducted in 2006 on a nationally representative sample of population in Malaysia. Over
21,000 children aged 0-17.9 years were measured for body weight and stature according to the protocol of the World Health Organization. This article describes
the nutritional status of children aged 0-59.9 months. Mean z score for weightfor-age (WAZ), height-for-age (HAZ) and BMI-for-age were compared with the
z-scores tables of the WHO standards. The overall prevalence of underweight
and stunting of the children were 12.9% and 17.2% respectively. These levels
included 2.4% severe underweight and 6.0% severe stunting. In terms of z scores,
the age group of 0–5.9 months showed the best nutritional status with mean
WAZ of -0.33 (95%CI: -0.52, 0.15) and -0.40 (-0.57, 0.24) for boys and girls
respectively, while mean HAZ was 0.64 (0.38, 0.89) for boys and 0.76 (0.54, 0.98)
for girls. Mean HAZ and WAZ status was least satisfactory after about 6 months,
suggesting a faltering in growth rate at an age that coincides with dependence on
complementary feeding. Prevalence of overweight based on BMI-for-age for the
sexes combined was 6.4%, while that based on WAZ was 3.4%. The NHMS III results indicate that Malaysian children have better nutritional status compared
to children under 5 years in neighbouring countries. In order to meet the targets set in the National Plan of Nutrition (2006-2015), more effective intervention
programmes are needed to accelerate the reduction of underweight and stunting, and to arrest the rise of overweight in young children.
