Objective To investigate the radon activity concentrations in subways of Nanning City and assess the average annual effective doses for subway staff and passengers due to radon exposure. Methods Sixty-three stations across the subway lines 2, 3, and 5 were selected as study sites. Radon activity concentrations were measured using the scintillation counting method with scintillation vials. Results The radon activity concentrations in subway lines 2, 3, and 5 were 7.9-24.4, 12.0-26.2, and 12.6-18.2 Bq/m³, respectively. The average radon activity concentrations for these three lines were (17.4 ± 4.6), (19.1 ± 4.1), and (14.6 ± 1.7) Bq/m³, respectively. Statistical analysis using SPSS 26.0 software revealed a significant difference in radon activity concentrations among these stations (P<0.01). Considering the data in previous research, the average radon activity concentration across all stations in the subway lines of Nanning City was determined to be 17.4 Bq/m³. The estimated average annual effective dose due to radon exposure was 0.131 mSv for subway staff and 0.033 mSv for passengers. Conclusion The radon activity concentrations in the subway lines of Nanning City were significantly lower than the national standard limit (400 Bq/m³). The annual effective doses from radon exposure for both subway staff and passengers were below the limits specified in the Basic Standards for Protection Against Ionizing Radiation and for the Safety of Radiation Sources (GB18871—2002). The health impact of radon and its progeny on subway staff and passengers in the subway lines of Nanning City was extremely low and can be considered negligible.

Cancer immunotherapy is currently a very promising therapeutic strategy for treating tumors. However, its effectiveness is restricted by insufficient antigenicity and an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment (ITME). Pyroptosis, a unique form of programmed cell death (PCD), causes cells to swell and rupture, releasing pro-inflammatory factors that can enhance immunogenicity and remodel the ITME. Nanomaterials, with their distinct advantages and different techniques, are increasingly popular, and nanomaterial-based delivery systems demonstrate significant potential to potentiate, enable, and augment pyroptosis. This review summarizes and discusses the emerging field of nanomaterials-induced pyroptosis, focusing on the mechanisms of nanomaterials-induced pyroptosis pathways and strategies to activate or enhance specific pyroptosis. Additionally, we provide perspectives on the development of this field, aiming to accelerate its further clinical transition.

Objective: To explore the association between mental health and muscle strength among Chinese adolescents aged 13- 18, providing a theoretical foundation and intervention strategies for mental health promotion. Methods: Data were obtained from the 2019 Chinese National Survey on Students Constitution and Health, including 98 631 Chinese adolescents aged 13- 18. Psychological distress was assessed by using the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10), and mental well being was measured with the Warwick-Edinburgh Mental Well being Scale (WEMWBS). Based on the gender and age specific Z scores of various test items [grip strength, standing long jump, pull ups (for males), and sit ups (for females)], muscle strength index (MSI) was constructed to evaluate the comprehensive level of muscle strength in adolescents. According to the Dual factor Model (DFM) of mental health, participants were categorized into four groups:troubled, symptomatic but content, vulnerable, and complete mental health. Gender differences were analyzed by using Chi-square tests, trends were tested with Cochran-Armitage tests, and multinomial Logistic regression models were applied to assess associations between muscle strength and mental health among adolescents. Results: In 2019, 37.4% of Chinese adolescents aged 13-18 were reported of high mental distress, and 59.9% were reported of low mental well being. Boys had significantly lower rates of high mental distress (35.3%) and low mental well being (55.6%) compared to girls (39.4%, 64.3%), and the differences were of statistical significance ( χ 2=176.13, 780.42, both P <0.05). In 2019, the rate of complete mental health among adolescents showed a downward trend with increasing age ( χ 2 trend = 258.47) and a gradual upward trend with increasing muscle strength levels ( χ 2 trend =123.14)，and both boys and girls exhibited similar trends ( χ 2 trend =103.83, 168.46; 57.00 , 67.34) (all P <0.05). The results of the unordered multiclass Logistic regression model showed that after controlling for confounding factors such as age and gender, when the completely pathological group as a reference, for every 1 unit increase in MSI in adolescents, the likelihood of being in a completely mental health state increased by 29% ( OR = 1.29); for every unit increase in the Z-score for pull ups, the likelihood of being in a completely mental health state increased by 6% ( OR =1.06) among boys; for every 1 unit increase in sit up Z score, the likelihood of being in a completely mental health state increased by 19% ( OR =1.19) among girls (all P <0.05). Conclusions The mental health status of Chinese adolescents is not good enough. Muscle strength is positively associated with mental health.

Objective The objective of this study was to provide methodological references for the inheritance of the experience of well-known Chinese medicine doctors in the treatment of kidney disease.Methods The study collected medical case data for IgA nephropathy,diagnosed and treated by Professor Yang Nizhi's outpatient department at Guangdong Provincial Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from 2010 to 2020.The data was standardized and divided into three groups:urine and blood,urine turbidity,and renal failure groups.The study utilized the FangNet platform to apply the PageRank algorithm and calculate the THScore of different subgroups of core herbs for IgA nephropathy.The distribution pattern of syndrome differentiation and corresponding herb use regulations were visualized through Python(SciPy package,Clusterheatmap package),and the study explored and verified the drug prescription through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis based on Pearson correlation coefficient.The weighted least squares estimation mean and variance adjusted(WLSMV)and the oblique rotated GEOMIN method were used with the Mplus software.Results The study included a total of 548 treatments for 145 patients with IgA nephropathy,with heamturia group(54 cases),urine turbidity group(51 cases),and renal failure group(40 cases).Results showed 9 basic syndromes such as Qi deficiency syndrome(91.79%),blood stasis syndrome(77.01%),damp-heat syndrome(66.06%),and Yin deficiency syndrome(38.69%).There are 24 core drugs in total,23 in the urine and blood group,21 in the urine turbidity group,and 16 in the renal failure group.These drugs mainly include qi-tonifying and yang-invigorating drugs,nourishing yin and blood drugs,promoting blood circulation and removing blood stasis drugs,and clearing heat and cooling blood drugs.The regulations for the differentiation and medication of IgA nephropathy(Z-Score>0.5 and P<0.05)were as follows:Huangqi,Shan Zhu Yu,and Tusizi were commonly used in Qi deficiency syndrome;Danshen,Ze Lan,and Shan Zhu Yu were commonly used in blood stasis syndrome;Pu Gong Ying,Shi Wei,Tao Ren,and Tu Fu Ling were commonly used in damp-heat syndrome;and Mo Han Lian,Tai Zi Shen,and Nv Zhen Zi were commonly used in Yin deficiency syndrome.Through exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis,the core drug combination factors for the treatment of IgA nephropathy by Professor Yang Nizhi were obtained as follows:F1(Tusizi,Shan Zhu Yu,Huangqi);F2(White Mao Gen,Xiao Ji,Qian Cao);F3(Nv Zhen Zi,Mo Han Lian,Tai Zi Shen);and F4(Ze Lan,Tao Ren).Conclusion This study analyzed the diagnosis and treatment experience of Professor Yang Nizhi in the treatment of IgA nephropathy by grouping,defining the core syndrome of"Qi deficiency and blood stasis,damp-heat and Yin deficiency",and the core treatment methods of"tonifying Qi,promoting blood circulation,clearing heat,and nourishing Yin"using the PageRank algorithm and Mplus factor analysis.The study provided methodological references for the inheritance of the experience of famous Chinese medicine doctors and promoted the development and utilization of traditional Chinese medicine.

Objective To investigate the effects of abdominal massage combined with electroacupuncture point-through-point method on the expressions of circadian clock genes of Clock,BMAL1,PER1 and neurotransmitters contents of ACh and Glu in insomnia rats and its possible mechanism.Methods Totally 50 SD male rats were randomly divided into normal group,model group,abdominal massage group,electroacupuncture point-through-point group and combination group,with 10 rats in each group.Except for the normal group,an insomnia rat model was established by intraperitoneal injection of p-chlorophenylalanine.Abdominal massage group received abdominal massage;electroacupuncture point-through-point group was treated with flat acupuncture,"Baihui"through"Shenting","Sanyinjiao"through"Yinlingquan"(bilateral),"Shenmen"through"Neiguan"(bilateral),the electroacupuncture instrument dilatational wave,frequency of 1 Hz/20 Hz was connected;the combination group was treated with electroacupuncture through acupoints after abdominal massage;1 time/d for each treatment group,a total of 7 days.The normal group and model group were not intervened.HE staining was used to observe the pathological changes of neurons in hypothalamic tissue,the expression of Clock,BMAL1 and PER1 mRNA were detected by RT-qPCR,the expressions of Clock,BMAL1 and PER1 in hypothalamic tissue were detected by immunohistochemical staining,the expression of Clock,BMAL1 and PER1 protein in hypothalamic tissue were detected by Western blot,the contents of ACh and Glu in serum were detected by ELISA.Results Compared with the normal group,the model group rats had a longer sleep latency,shorter sleep duration,severe damage to the cellular structure of the hypothalamic tissue,and a vacuolar like change,with a decrease in the number of neuronal cells,the expressions of Clock and BMAL1 mRNA and protein in hypothalamic tissue increased,while the expressions of PER1 mRNA and protein decreased;the contents of serum ACh and Glu increased,with statistical significance(P<0.05).Compared with the model group,the abdominal massage group,electroacupuncture point-through-point group,and combination group could all shorten the sleep latency,prolong sleep duration,and improve the morphology of hypothalamic neurons,reduce the expressions of Clock and BMAL1 mRNA and protein in hypothalamic tissue,up-regulate the expressions of PER1 mRNA and protein,and reduce the contents of serum ACh and Glu,with statistical significance(P<0.05),the combination group showed the most obvious effects(P<0.05).Conclusion Abdominal massage combined with electroacupuncture point-through-point method can improve insomnia.Its mechanism may be related to the regulation of circadian clock genes Clock,BMAL1,PER1 mRNA and protein expression,as well as neurotransmitter content.

Objective To observe the effect of Buyang Huanwu Decoction on hippocampal tissue structure and blood perfusion in rats with focal cerebral ischemia using multi-modal MRI;To analyze the mechanism of Buyang Huanwu Decoction on hippocampal neuroplasticity combined with the expression changes of neuroplasticity proteins and glucose metabolism related transporters.Methods Focal cerebral ischemia rat model induced by right middle cerebral artery occlusion were established.The rats were divided into sham-operation group,sham-operation+Buyang Huanwu Decoction group,model group and model+Buyang Huanwu Decoction group.The rats in the sham-operation group and model group were given normal saline for 30 days,and those in the sham-operation+Buyang Huanwu Decoction group and model+Buyang Huanwu Decoction group were given Buyang Huanwu Decoction for 30 days.T2 mapping imaging was used to detect the changes in hippocampal tissue structure,the changes of cerebral blood perfusion in hippocampus were detected by arterial spin labeling imaging,Western blot was used to detect the protein expressions of SYN,GAP-43,glucose transporters and MCT.Results Compared with the sham-operation group,the T2 relaxation time of the right and left hippocampus in the model group rats significantly increased(P<0.01,P<0.001),the blood flow in the right hippocampus was significantly reduced(P<0.05),the protein expressions of SYN,GAP-43,MCT4 and MCT2 in the right hippocampus were significantly decreased(P<0.01,P<0.001),the protein expressions of GLUT1 and GLUT3 in bilateral hippocappal tissue significantly decreased(P<0.05,P<0.01,P<0.001).Compared with the model group,the T2 relaxation time in the right hippocampus of rats in model+Buyang Huanwu Decoction group was significantly reduced(P<0.05),the blood flow in the right hippocampus significantly increased(P<0.05),the protein expressions of SYN,GAP-43,GLUT1 and GLUT3 in bilateral hippocampal tissues significantly increased(P<0.01,P<0.001),and the protein expressions of MCT4 and MCT2 in right hippocampal tissue significantly increased(P<0.01,P<0.001).Conclusion Buyang Huanwu Decoction can alleviate hippocampal injury in rats with focal cerebral ischemia,which may be related to improving blood perfusion,up-regulating neuroplasticity-related proteins,promoting hippocampal axon regeneration and synaptic remodeling,regulating energy metabolism of nerve cells.

A total of 5 600 middle-aged and older adults aged 40 to 89 years were included by using a multi-stage stratified random sampling method. Baseline characteristics of the subjects were collected and physical examinations were performed. Random midstream urine was collected to measure urinary cadmium and urinary creatinine and fasting venous blood was collected to measure the leukocyte count, neutrophil count, lymphocyte count, monocyte count and eosinophil count. The linear mixed effect model was used to analyse the association of urinary cadmium levels with leukocyte classification counts, and the dose-response relationship between them was analyzed by using the restricted cubic spline (RCS) function.Results:The age of the subjects was (63.17±12.02) years; 2 851 (50.91%) were males; and the M ( Q 1, Q 3) of urinary creatinine-corrected urinary cadmium levels was 2.69 (1.52, 4.69) μg/g·creatinine. After adjusting for confounding factors, the results of linear mixed effects model analysis showed that for each 1-unit increase in urinary creatinine-corrected urinary cadmium level, the percentage change [% (95% CI)] of leukocyte count and lymphocyte count was -1.70% (-2.61%, -0.79%) and -1.57% (-2.86%, -0.26%), respectively. RCS function showed a negative linear relationship between urinary creatinine-corrected urinary cadmium levels and leukocyte counts and lymphocyte counts, respectively (all Pnon-linear>0.05). Objective: To analyze the prevalence of comorbidity of spinal curvature abnormality and malnutrition among primary and secondary school students aged 10-18 years in Tianjin in 2023, so as to provide scientific basis for the combined prevention of common diseases and multiple diseases among students and the construction of school health system. Methods: In September to October 2023, 31 884 primary and secondary school students aged 10 to 18 years in Tianjin were selected using stratified cluster random sampling. Abnormal spinal curvature in children and adolescents was assessed by Sereening of Spinal Curvature Abnormality of Children and Adolescents, while stunting, wasting, overweight, and obesity were determined according to the Screening for Malnutrition among Schoolage Children and Adolescents and Screening for Overweight and Obesity among Schoolage Children and Adolescents. The χ2 test was used to compare betweengroup differences in coprevalence, and multiple Logistic regression models were used to analyze the risk of different comorbidity types in different clusters. Results: The coprevalence of spinal curvature abnormality and malnutrition among primary and secondary school students in Tianjin was 1.6%, which was higher for girls than boys (1.8%, 1.4%), higher (2.5%) for senior high schools than for junior high schools and elementary schools (2.0%, 0.5%), and higher in rural than in urban areas (2.1%, 1.1%) (χ2=9.45, 141.92, 46.94, P<0.05). Multiple Logistic regression models showed that junior high school girls had a higher risk of incorrect posture comorbid with stunting and wasting (OR=4.52, 95%CI=1.84-11.06) and incorrect posture comorbid with overweight and obesity (OR=2.67, 95%CI=1.74-4.10) than boys, and that scoliosis/sagittal spinal abnormality comorbid with stunting and wasting (OR=0.10, 95%CI=0.02-0.44) risk was lower than that of boys, senior high school girls had a lower risk of scoliosis/sagittal spinal abnormality comorbid with overweight and obesity (OR=0.27, 95%CI=0.11-0.66) (P<0.05). Conclusions The coprevalence of spinal curvature abnormality and malnutrition is specific among primary and secondary school students in Tianjin, and the comorbidity type varies by gender and education stage. There is a need to increase prevention and control of spinal curvature abnormalities in school health working, intensive screening of key populations, and timely intervention.

Diabetic peripheral neuropathy is a common diabetic complication.Presently,our understanding of its pathogenesis is incomplete,and there are no effective treatment options.In-depth research requires the use of animal experiments.The criteria for modeling success and the evaluation method for peripheral nerve function recovery are critical for carrying out animal experiments into type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy.However,but there has been a lack of systematic interrogation and analysis of the evaluation method used with type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy models.Therefore,the author reviewed the recent data,summarized and analyzed the evaluation method used for animal models of type 2 diabetic peripheral neuropathy of small and large nerve fibers,and proposed future directions for development,providing a reference for related research.
