Episodic memory, our ability to recall past experiences, is supported by structures in the medial temporal lobe (MTL) particularly the hippocampus, and its interactions with fronto-parietal brain regions. Understanding how these brain regions coordinate to encode, consolidate, and retrieve episodic memories remains a fundamental question in cognitive neuroscience. Non-invasive brain stimulation (NIBS) methods, especially transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), have advanced episodic memory research beyond traditional lesion studies and neuroimaging by enabling causal investigations through targeted magnetic stimulation to specific brain regions. This review begins by delineating the evolving understanding of episodic memory from both psychological and neurobiological perspectives and discusses the brain networks supporting episodic memory processes. Then, we review studies that employed TMS to modulate episodic memory, with the aim of identifying potential cortical regions that could be used as stimulation sites to modulate episodic memory networks. We conclude with the implications and prospects of using NIBS to understand episodic memory mechanisms.

Inflammation underlies a wide variety of physiological and pathological processes, and plays a pivotal role in controlling pathogen infection. C1q/tumor necrosis factor (TNF) related proteins (CTRPs), a newly discovered adipokine family with conservative structure and wide distribution, has attracted increasing attention. The CTRP family consists of more than 15 members which fall into the characteristic C1q domain. Increasing studies have demonstrated that CTRPs are involved in the onset and development of inflammation and metabolism as well as related diseases, including myocardial infarction, sepsis and tumors. Here, we first clarified the characteristic domains of CTRPs, and then elucidated their roles in inflammatory-related diseases. Taken together, the information presented here provides new perspectives for therapeutic strategies to improve inflammatory and metabolic abnormalities.

Chinese Journal of Rheumatology 2022;26(10):683-689
Objective:To investigate the Chinese version of rheumatoid arthritis stigma scale (ISMI-RA) and test its reliability and validity. Methods:The English version of ISMI-RA was translated into Chinese, translated back and culturally adapted in strictly accordance with the Brislin translation model. A total of 20 patients were selected for preliminary investigation and some items were revised to create the Chinese version of ISMI-RA. From April 2020 to April 2021, 258 patients with rheumatoid arthritis were investigated by convenience sampling method, Pearson correlation intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) coefficient and Cronbach's α coefficient were used to evaluate the test-retest reliability and internal consistency of the scale. The stigma scale for chronic illness-8 was used as the standard, and the correlation coefficient was calculated to verify the criterion validity. Confirmatory factor analysis was used to evaluate the construct validity of the scale. Results:The internal consistency Cronbach's α coefficient was 0.86, the Cronbach's α coefficient of each dimension was 0.34-0.93, and Pearson correlation analysis of retest reliability showed that it was 0.94. The Cronbach's α coefficient of stigma resistance subscale was as low as 0.34, and the Cronbach's α coefficient of stigma resistance subscale was 0.90 after removal. The retest reliability was 0.98. The criterion coefficient between this scale and the stigma scale for chronic illness-8 was 0.73 ( P<0.001), and the criterion coefficient of the subscales were 0.52-0.71. The theoretical factor structure of ISMI-RA that is composed of five factors showed suboptimal model fitting [root-mean-square error of approximation ( RMSEA)=0.10, Tucker-Lewis index ( TLI)=0.88, comparative fit index (CFI)=0.89)], and the model fitting effect was better after removing the dimension of resistance to stigma and three items ( RMSEA=0.09, CFI=0.94, TLI=0.93). Conclusion:The Chinese version of ISMI-RA has good reliability and validity, and can be used as an evaluation tool to measure the level of stigma in rheumatoid arthritis patients, and to provide a basis for clinical development of intervention programs to facilitating the rehabilitation process.

Objective:Using 24-hour urinary sodium excretion (24h-UNa) as the surrogate measure of sodium intake, to evaluate the joint association of 24h-UNa and serum 25-hydroxy vitamin D (25-OHD) levels with the risk of albuminuria in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).Methods:This retrospective study included 670 hospitalized T2DM cases in the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases, the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2018 to October 2021. Patients were divided into the albuminuria-positive group or negative-group according to the level of 24-hour urinary albumin excretion (24h-UAE); They were also divided into the high-sodium group or low-sodium group according to the level of 24h-UNa; Patients were divided into the low-VD group or high-VD group according to the level of 25-OHD. Combining 24h-UNa and 25-OHD, the patients were further divided into four groups: high-VD low-sodium group ( n=85), high-VD high-sodium group ( n=122), low-VD low-sodium group ( n=248), and low-VD high-sodium group ( n=215). The effect of 24h-UNa and 25-OHD association on albuminuria was analyzed by binary regression. Results:There were significant differences in 24h-UAE level among the four groups ( P<0.01), the level of 24h-UAE in the low-VD high-sodium group was significantly higher than that in low-VD low-sodium group, high-VD low-sodium group, and high-VD high-sodium group [39.00(13.00, 319.00)mg/24 h vs 22.00(10.00, 99.00)mg/24 h, 22.00(9.00, 72.50)mg/24 h, 22.45(9.69, 72.75)mg/24 h; P=0.047, P=0.019, P=0.030]. Correlation analysis showed a positive correlation between 24h-UNa and 24h-UAE in the low-VD group ( P=0.017), but not in the high-VD group ( P=0.411). Binary regression analyses showed that both 24h-UNa ( P=0.017) and 25-OHD( P=0.023) were independent risk factors for positive albuminuria in patients with T2DM. The risk of positive albuminuria in the low-VD high-sodium group was 1.789 times higher than that in the high-VD low-sodium group ( P=0.037). Conclusion:24h-UAE in T2DM patients was affected by the combination of 24h-UNa and 25-OHD. A low level of 25-OHD increased the risk of albuminuria in high sodium intake T2DM patients.

GB7 acetate is a galbulimima alkaloid obtained from Galbulimima belgraveana. However, information regarding its structure, biological activities, and related mechanisms is not entirely available.A series of spectroscopic analyses, structural degradation, interconversion, and crystallography were performed to identify the structure of GB7 acetate. The MTT assay was applied to measure cell proliferation on human colorectal cancer HCT 116 cells. The expressions of the related proteins were measured by Western blotting.Transmission electron microscopy(TEM),acridine orange(AO)and monodansylcadaverine(MDC)staining were used to detect the presence of autophagic vesicles and autolysosomes.A transwell assay was performed to demonstrate metastatic capabilities.Oxygen consumption rate(OCR)and extracellular acidification rate(ECAR)assays were performed to determine the mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation(OXPHOS)and glycolysis activity of HCT 116 cells. The data showed that GB7 acetate suppressed the proliferation and colony-forming ability of HCT 116 cells.Pretreatment with GB7 acetate significantly induced the formation of autophagic vesicles and autolysosomes.GB7 acetate upregulated the expressions of LC3 and Thr172 phosphorylated adenosine 5'-monophosphate(AMP)-activated pro-tein kinase α(p-AMPKα),which are key elements of autophagy. In addition,GB7 acetate suppressed the metastatic capabilities of HCT 116 cells.Additionally, the production of matrix metallo-proteinase-2(MMP-2)and MMP-9 was reduced, whereas the expression of E-cadherin(E-cad)was upregulated.Furthermore,GB7 acetate significantly reduced mitochondrial OXPHOS and glycolysis. In conclusion, the structure of the novel Galbulimima alkaloid GB7 acetate was identified.GB7 acetate was shown to have anti-proliferative,pro-autophagic,anti-metastatic,and anti-metabolite capabilities in HCT 116 cells. This study might provide new insights into cancer treatment efficacy and cancer chemoprevention.
