The disturbance of the human microbiota influences the occurrence and progression of many diseases. Live therapeutic bacteria, with their genetic manipulability, anaerobic tendencies, and immunomodulatory properties, are emerging as promising therapeutic agents. However, their clinical applications face challenges in maintaining activity and achieving precise spatiotemporal release, particularly in the harsh gastrointestinal environment. This review highlights the innovative bacterial functionalized encapsulation strategies developed through advances in physicochemical and biological techniques. We comprehensively review how bacterial encapsulation strategies can be used to provide physical barriers and enhanced adhesion properties to live microorganisms, while introducing superior material properties to live bacteria. In addition, this review outlines how bacterial surface coating can facilitate targeted delivery and precise spatiotemporal release of live bacteria. Furthermore, it elucidates their potential applications for treating different diseases, along with critical perspectives on challenges in clinical translation. This review comprehensively analyzes the connection between functionalized bacterial encapsulation and innovative biomedical applications, providing a theoretical reference for the development of next-generation bacterial therapies.

Objective:To explore age-related variations in the angle of the cochlear basal turn using temporal bone CT, providing a reference for selecting the optimal Stenvers position radiographic projection angle in children and adults. Methods:The retrospective study included children and adults who underwent temporal bone CT scans at Beijing Tongren Hospital from November 2014 to April 2023. A total of 620 participants were included, including 368 males and 252 females. Patients were divided into 20 age-ralated groups: infants under one year old (3 to 11 months) were divided into monthly subgroups (9 groups); children and adolescents aged 1 to 18 years were grouped biennially (9 groups); adults were divided into two groups: 19 to 29 years and 30 to 40 years. Using multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) techniques, the CT images of the temporal bone were reformatted into oblique transverse sections to maximize the visibility of the cochlear basal turn. The cochlear basal turn angle was defined as the angle between the vertical axis of the cochlear basal turn and the mid-sagittal plane of the skull. Statistical analysis was performed to compare age-related differences in cochlear basal turn angles. Two additional patients were included to compare Stenvers position X-ray images with corresponding temporal bone CT scans, assessing the visibility of cochlear implant electrodes post-implantation.Results:Among infants aged 3 to 11 months, the cochlear basal turn angle was 29.4°±4.5°, with no significant differences observed between subgroups ( P>0.05). However, significant differences were found between infants (<1 year old) and the 1-2-year-old group compared to each age group from 3 to 40 years ( P<0.05). Additionally, the angles differed significantly between the 3-14-year-old groups and the 19-40-year-old groups ( P<0.05), whereas no significant differences were found among the remaining groups ( P>0.05). The visibility of the cochlear implant electrodes, appearing round in shape on standard Stenvers position X-ray images, closely resembled that observed in temporal bone CT scans. Conclusion:Age-related variations in the cochlear basal turn angle provide a valuable reference for optimizing Stenvers position radiography angles after cochlear implantation, improving the accuracy and quality of post-implantation imaging.

Objective:To measure the radial artery (RA) diameter and explore its related factors by using optical coherence tomography (OCT).Methods:This was a cross-sectional study conducted in Cardiac Care Unit of Beijing Luhe Hospital, Capital Medical University. Patients who underwent first-ever right forearm access and OCT guided coronary intervention via right distal RA, and measurement of the whole portion of RA diameter with OCT in our center between January 2021 to December 2021 were enrolled. Following the coronary intervention, OCT was used to assess the entire RA. The RA diameter was measured from the RA ostium to 2 cm above the radial styloid process, with a 1 mm interval. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to determine the factors related the RA diameter. Results:The study enrolled 124 patients with an age of (61.6±12.6) years, of whom 98 (79%) were male. The total length of the RA was (19.5±1.8) cm, for males (20.2±1.3) cm and females (17.2±1.2) cm. The average RA diameter was (3.13±0.50) mm, and the RA diameter at 2 to 5 cm above the radial styloid process was (2.98±0.53) mm. The average RA diameter was significantly larger for male patients than for female patients ((3.21±0.50) mm vs. (2.84±0.37) mm, P<0.001). Multiple linear regression analysis indicated that gender was significantly associated with RA diameter ( P=0.019). Conclusions:The average RA diameter measured by OCT is (3.13±0.50) mm, (2.98±0.53) mm at 2 to 5 cm above the radial styloid process. Gender is identified as a factor related to the RA diameter.

There exist risks of ionizing radiation in radiodiagnosis examinations. Implementing shielding protection following the optimization and as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) principles represents a measure to reduce radiation doses to patients. The implementation of shielding protection in clinical practices should meet high requirements due to variations in the modalities and items in radiodiagnosis examinations, the characteristics and irradiation method of X-ray beams, the method of automatic selection of image quality and radiation dose-related parameters by imaging equipment, the radiation sensitivity of human tissues and organs. This review introduced the shielding products, methods and effects in various radiodiagnosis examinations, as well as the current status and challenges in their applications, aiming to provide a reference for future related research and clinical practices.

Objective To explore the mediating role of eating disorders in the relationship between body image satisfaction and anxiety symptoms among college students, and further examine the moderating effect of mindfulness on this mediating pathway. Methods By using convenience sampling,we conducted baseline and follow-up surveys among freshmen and sophomores at two universities in Xizang Autonomous Region from September to December 2021.Measurements included the Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale, the body image satisfaction subscale of the Multidimensional Body-Self Relations Questionnaire, the Eating Attitudes Test, and the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale.Data analyses performed using SPSS 23.0 included Pearson correlation analysis, mediation(model 4),and moderation(model 58)effect analysis. Results A total of 2 993 students participated in both the baseline and follow-up surveys, including 1 007 males(34.3%)and 1,666 Tibetan and other ethnic minorities(56.8%),with an average age of 19.8(SD=1.3)years.Body image satisfaction significantly predicted anxiety symptoms, and this relationship was partially mediated by disordered eating. The presence of mindfulness moderated the impact of body image satisfaction on disordered eating and the influence of disordered eating on anxiety symptoms, indicating varying strengths of these relationships at different levels of mindfulness. Conclusion This study demonstrates that body image satisfaction can significantly predict anxiety symptoms, with disordered eating playing a mediating role in this relationship. The moderating effect of mindfulness further reveals that students with high levels of mindfulness are less likely to experience eating disorders influenced by body image dissatisfaction.Interventions for college students'mental health should consider including management of body image and eating behaviors,as well as mindfulness training.
