Alzheimer's disease(AD),a common geriatric ailment, exerts a severe impact on people's lives.Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)demonstrates a favorable effect on the intervention of AD,while the mechanism remains in the exploratory phase.Recent studies have indicated that astrocytes play a significant role in AD.The mechanism of TCM in the treatment of AD from the perspective of astrocyte regulation was explored, and the roles of astrocytes in the pathogenesis of AD was summarized, namely maintaining energy metabolism, regulating synaptic plasticity, and mediating inflammatory responses, thereby providing a TCM-based solution with a clear mechanism for clinical and scientific intervention in AD.

Follicular lymphoma(FL)is a type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and its treatment options face many challenges. This paper discusses the pathogenesis and treatment of FL based on the clear-turbid theory in traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)."The clear and the turbid being related, and the rise and fall of qi being disorderly"is the basic pathogenesis of FL.As the disease progres-ses,"evil qi being blocked inside, and turbid evil harming the clear"aggravates, and finally"evil qi is strong and the disease progres-ses,and evil poison is generated inside".Based on this theory, the method of raising the clear and lowering the turbid and the method of dispersing the clear and removing the turbid are proposed to treat FL.The emphasis of raising the clear and lowering the turbid is to take raising and lowering as the key, movement and stillness as the pivot, and to treat the middle jiao;the emphasis of dispersing the clear and removing the turbid is to clear the triple jiao, warm the yang and invigorate the qi,and harmonize the spleen and kidney.Ca-ses are attached to illustrate, providing new ideas for the TCM treatment of FL.
4.Efficacy of staged kinetic chain rehabilitation after arthroscopic surgery for knee chronic meniscal injury
Journal of China Medical University 2025;54(4):364-368
Objective To assess the clinical efficacy of postoperative staged kinetic chain rehabilitation(SKCR)in patients with knee chronic meniscal injury undergoing arthroscopic surgery. Methods This study included 100 patients with chronic meniscal injury who underwent arthroscopic surgery between May 2019 and March 2023.There were 50 patients each in the regular knee rehabilitation(control)and SKCR groups. The patients completed sociodemographic questionnaires, including the Lysholm knee joint scoring scale,SF-36 health survey, and medical coping modes questionnaire(MCMQ).Results The Lysholm knee joint score for patients in the SKCR group was sig-nificantly higher than routine postoperative rehabilitation group(89.50±8.09 vs.69.34±11.97,P<0.05).The total knee joint score was significantly higher in the SKCR group compared to that in the control group(P<0.05).Notably,all subscales of the SF-36 evaluation, except general health and witality, showed significant improvements(P<0.05).In addition, the MCMQ score analysis revealed a signifi-cantly higher score for the facing strategy of the SKCR group compared to that of the control group(20.80±3.12 vs.18.14±4.42,P<0.05).Conversely,the control group showed significantly higher scores for avoidance and acceptance-resignation strategies(P<0.05).Further correlation analysis showed a positive correlation between the Lysholm and SF-36 scores with the facing component of the MCMQ scale in the SKCR group, whereas a negative correlation was observed with the acceptance-resignation component in the conventional rehabilita-tion group. Conclusion Compared to conventional rehabilitation treatment,SKCR can improve knee function, quality of life, and clinical efficacy after arthroscopic meniscal surgery more significantly, highlighting the importance of postoperative psychological interventions for enhancing patient well-being.

Objective To investigate the mechanism by which 4-week high-intensity interval training(HIIT)regulates the mitochondrial unfolded protein response(UPRmt)in skeletal muscle and improves mitochondrial function in a rat model of chronic unpredictable mild stress(CUMS).Methods Male SPF-grade SD rats(6~8 weeks old)were divided randomly into control(C),model(M),HIIT+control(HC),and HIIT+model(HM)groups.Rats in the M and HM groups were subjected to CUMS for 8 weeks to establish a depression model, while rats in the HC and HM groups received HIIT for 5 d a week for 4 weeks. The exercise regimen consisted of 3 min high-speed(85%~90%Smax)combined with 1 min low-speed(50%~55%Smax)uninterrupted repetitive training(Smax is maximum training speed).Behavioral changes were evaluated at weeks 4 and 8.Tissue samples were taken 24 h after the last behavioral test and skeletal muscle mitochondria were examined by transmission electron microscopy. The ATP and reactive oxygen species(ROS)contents were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays and protein expression levels of activating transcription factor(ATF)4,ATF5,C/EBP homologous protein(CHOP),and heat shock protein 60(HSP60)were detected by Western blot.Results(1)The body mass, number of crossing grids, number of upright positions,sugar-water preference rate, and ATP content were significantly decreased in group M compared with group C(P<0.01),while the number of damaged mitochondria,ROS content,ATF4,ATF5,CHOP,and HSP60 protein expression were significantly increased(P<0.01).(2)After 4-weeks of HIIT intervention, the ATP content and ATF4 and ATF5 protein expression levels were significantly increased in the HC group compared with C group(P<0.05,P<0.01).The number of crossing grids, number of upright positions,sugar-water preference rate,ATP content, and ATF4 protein expression were significantly increased in the HM group compared with M group(P<0.01),while the number of damaged mitochondria,ROS content, and ATF5,CHOP,and HSP60 protein expression levels were significantly decreased(P<0.01).(3)After 4 weeks of HIIT intervention, the number of crossing grids in CUMS rats was significantly positively correlated with ATF4 protein expression, and ROS content was correlated with CHOP protein expression, number of damaged mitochondria, and ATF5 protein expression(|r|>0.75,P<0.01;|r|>0.75,P<0.05).Upright frequency was significantly negatively correlated with ATF5 and HSP60 protein expression, the number of crossing grids, the sugar-water preference rate, and the expression of CHOP and HSP60 proteins(|r|<0.75,P<0.05).Conclusions 4-week HIIT intervention can improve mitochondrial dysfunction and alleviate depressive-like behavior in CUMS rats by regulating skeletal muscle UPRmt.
