Schwann cells and macrophages are the main immune cells involved in peripheral nerve injury. After injury, Schwann cells produce an inflammatory response and secrete various chemokines, inflammatory factors, and some other cytokines to promote the recruitment and M2 polarization of blood-derived macrophages, enhancing their phagocytotic ability, and thus play an important role in promoting nerve regeneration. Macrophages have also been found to promote vascular regeneration after injury, promote the migration and proliferation of Schwann cells along blood vessels, and facilitate myelination and axon regeneration. Therefore, there is a close interaction between Schwann cells and macrophages during peripheral nerve regeneration, but this has not been systematically summarized. In this review, the mechanisms of action of Schwann cells and macrophages in each other's migration and phenotypic transformation are reviewed from the perspective of each other, to provide directions for research on accelerating nerve injury repair.

2.Metabolic and bariatric surgery′s historical progression and transformative shifts induced by GLP-1 receptor agonists

With obesity rates climbing worldwide, metabolic and bariatric surgery has evolved over seven decades into a pivotal therapeutic approach for treating severe obesity and related disorders. Recent research highlights that new anti-diabetic and weight-loss drugs, especially GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA), are catalyzing a paradigm shift in obesity management. Within this context, the key scientific challenge in metabolic surgery is thoroughly investigating how pharmacological interventions and surgical procedures work together in weight management, especially evaluating if new drugs can match bariatric surgery's long-term effectiveness, complication management, and metabolic changes. Resolving this interdisciplinary debate will influence precision medicine in obesity treatment and reshape future multidisciplinary care models for metabolic disorders.
3.Longitudinal study on anxiety and intolerance of uncertainty among Chinese college students

Objective:
To explore the longitudinal changes and related predictive factors of anxiety and intolerance of uncertainty (IU) among Chinese college students, so as to provide theoretical reference for promoting students mental health.
Methods:
Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale-short Form and the 7 item Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale were administered among 5 683 students from 22 universities in Guangdong Province from September 10 to October 17, 2021 (T1, baseline survey), and from March 15 to April 22, 2023 (T2). Using paired sample t-test to analyze the changes in anxiety and IU among college students, a linear regression model was established to explore factors that can predict anxiety, IU and their changes during T1 and T2 periods.
Results:
During the T1 period, the average scores of anxiety and IU among college students were (3.26±3.46, 34.88±7.96), while during the T2 period, they were (4.41±4.16, 36.40±8.07). During the T2 period, the levels of anxiety and IU among college students were higher than those during the T1 period ( t=19.59, 13.67, P <0.01). The linear regression results showed that age ( B = -0.02 ), moderate ( B =-0.18) and poor ( B =-0.88) mental health status, as well as online browsing of Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) epidemic (later called as epidemic) related information for >1-<3 hours ( B =-0.30) and ≥3 hours ( B =-0.22), all of which could negatively predict changes in anxiety during T1 to T2 periods. Living in rural areas ( B =0.11) could positively predict changes in anxiety during T1 to T2 periods ( P <0.05). Moderate ( B =-0.19) and poor ( B =-0.47) mental health status, browsing epidemic related information online for >1-<3 hours ( B =-0.32) and ≥3 hours ( B =-0.33), academic performance being moderately affected by the epidemic ( B =-0.10), and personal planning being moderately affected by the epidemic ( B =-0.13) and severely affected ( B =-0.22), all of which could negatively predict changes in IU during T1 to T2 periods ( P <0.05).
Conclusions
Levels of anxiety and intolerance of uncertainty increases significantly after epidemic. Mental health status of college students should need long term monitoring, and students with poor mental health should need special attention.
4.False-positive HIV-1 nucleic acid testing results in patients with severe thalassemia after receiving cell and gene therapy

A 11-year old female patient with severe thalassemia, receipt a lentivirus-based cell and gene therapy (CGT) therapy in Shenzhen Children′s Hosptial on July 27th, 2021. At the two follow-up visits after discharge, patient were continuously tested positive for HIV screening through HIV Ag/Ab Combo assay (chemiluminescence Immunoassay), and the viral load results of HIV-1 nucleic acid testing (NAT) were both>5 000 copies/ml. The patient can be diagnosed with HIV infection according to the National Guideline for Detection of HIV/AIDS(2020 Revised Edition). The thorough investigation findings and supplementary experiment results indicated that the false-positive HIV-1 NAT results was caused by cross-reactivity between the target sites detected by conventional HIV-1 NAT reagents and the lentiviral vectors fragments integrated into the genome of patient′s hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells. In conclusion, it is important for laboratories to select appropriate HIV-1 NAT testing platforms which won′t cause cross-reactivity for the testing of samples from patients who have been treated with HIV-derived vectors. It is also recommended to design and develop NAT testing platforms with multiple target regions labeled by different fluorescents for HIV NAT supplementation experiment to reduce the risk of false-positive diagnoses of HIV infection.
5.Bibliometric analysis of current status of global and Chinese anesthesiology research in 2023

Objective:To analyze the current status of anesthesiology research in the world and China in 2023 and to identify the anesthesiology research hotspots using bibliometrics.Methods:The literature related to anesthesiology published in PubMed in 2023 was searched, and the country and author of the literature, as well as the key words of the literature were visually analyzed by using the software CiteSpace6.2. R4.Results:A total of 22 473 articles were included, the country with the largest number of publications was the United States, and China ranked second. The author with the highest number of publications in the field of anesthesiology in the worldwide in 2023 was Kaye Alan D from the United States. Chronic pain, general anesthesia and pain management were the research hotspots in the field of anesthesiology worldwide in 2023. The research hotspots in the field of anesthesiology in China focused on general anesthesia, oxidative stress and neuropathic pain.Conclusions:The United States is the leader in the research in the field of anesthesiology, with China following behind. The keywords of the literature in the field of anesthesiology between China and the world are roughly the same, reflecting the convergence of Chinese scientific research with global scientific research. Domestic anaesthesia practitioners can refer to or learn from the research hotspots of related countries and strengthen communication and cooperation between teams while conducting academic research.
6.Effect of biotherapy for psoriasis on tuberculosis infection and relevant mechanisms

In recent years, biological agents have played a positive role in the treatment of psoriasis, especially severe, refractory and special subtypes of psoriasis. However, their safety has attracted increasing attention, especially the risk of tuberculosis infection. This review summarizes the effect of biological agents with different targets on tuberculosis infection and relevant mechanisms, aiming to provide a theoretical basis for psoriasis patients to choose appropriate biotherapy.
7.Development and Challenges of Additive Manufactured Customized Implant

Additive manufacturing(3D printing)technology aligns with the direction of precision and customization in future medicine,presenting a significant opportunity for innovative development in high-end medical devices.Currently,research and industrialization of 3D printed medical devices mainly focus on nondegradable implants and degradable implants.Primary areas including metallic orthopaedic implants,polyether-ether-ketone(PEEK)bone implants,and biodegradable implants have been developed for clinical and industrial application.Recent research achievements in these areas are reviewed,with a discussion on the additive manufacturing technologies and applications for customized implants.Challenges faced by different types of implants are analyzed from technological,application,and regulatory perspectives.Furthermore,prospects and suggestions for future development are outlined.
8.Diagnostic Value of Phosphorylated tau217 and Other Plasma Biomarkers for Cognitive Dysfunction in the Populations of Deyang City,Sichuan Province,China

Objective Alzheimer disease(AD),a continuous disease spectrum,includes the symptomatic stages of the period of mild cognitive impairment(MCI)and the dementia period,also known as AD dementia.Focusing on MCI and AD dementia screening,i.e.,AD spectrum screening,we analyzed the value of plasma biomarkers for diagnosing cognitive dysfunction in the local populations of Deyang City,Sichuan Province,China to provide evidence for the early screening and diagnosis of cognitive dysfunction.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted between August 2023 and October 2023 among people aged 50 years or older in Deyang City,Sichuan Province.The survey covered demographic information,information on medical history,and cognitive function assessment.Subjects with MCI were included in the MCI group,those with AD dementia were included in the AD group,and the others were included in the healthy controls(HC)group.A partial sample,including all patients with AD dementia and a randomized sample of MCI patients and HC,was drawn.Then,the plasma levels of four cognition-related biomarkers,including phosphorylated tau217(p-tau217),were measured using an ultrasensitive digital chip immunoassay technology independently developed in China.Amyloid beta(Aβ)deposition was determined by positron emission tomography(PET)using Aβ molecular probes in all AD dementia patients and some of the MCI patients.The diagnostic value of the plasma biomarkers for cognitive dysfunction was assessed.Results A total of 2833 subjects were investigated,including 30(1.1%)with AD dementia,437(15.4%)with MCI,and 2366(83.5%)with HC.We measured the plasma levels of 4 biomarkers of 30 AD dementia patients,50 MCI patients,and 35 HC.Plasma p-tau217 performed best in differentiating AD dementia from HC and MCI,with the area under the curve(AUC)of receiver operator characteristic curves being 0.96(95%CI:0.91-1.00)and 0.93(95%CI:0.87-0.98),respectively.Plasma p-tau217 levels in the AD dementia,MCI,and HC groups were(2.32±1.27),(0.54±0.45),and(0.42±0.19)pg/mL,respectively,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.000 1).A total of 36 patients underwent Aβ PET examination.Plasma p-tau217 showed the best performance in the diagnosis of Aβ deposition(AUC:0.99,95%CI:0.96-1.00).Plasma p-tau217 levels were higher in Aβ-deposition-positive patients([2.52±1.17]pg/mL)than those in Aβ-deposition-negative patients([0.53±0.19]pg/mL),and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.000 1).Plasma p-tau217 levels were significantly and positively correlated with Aβ PET uptake values in multiple brain regions of the frontal,temporal,and occipital lobes(r>0.70,P<0.000 1).Conclusion Plasma biomarkers measured with a technology independently developed in China demonstrate good performance in diagnosing AD dementia.Plasma p-tau217,in particular,demonstrates the highest diagnostic value and can be used for AD dementia screening of large populations.
9.Evaluation of left ventricular structural and functional abnormalities and vascular calcification in kidney transplant recipients and the effect of bone metabolism on them

Objective:To evaluate left ventricular structural and functional abnormalities and vascular calcification in kidney transplant (KT) recipients, explore their influencing factors and examine the effects of mineral and bone disorders.Methods:From January 2017 to December 2019, retrospective analysis was performed for 292 KT recipients. Biochemical markers of bone metabolism, bone mineral density (BMD), left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF), left ventricular diastolic function, coronary artery calcification (CAC) score and thoracic aortic calcification (TAC) score were assessed. Linear regression and binary Logistic regression analyses were employed for evaluating the influencing factors of cardiovascular parameters and the influence of abnormal mineral and bone metabolism.Results:Postoperative abnormalities in mineral and bone disorders were manifested mostly as hypercalcemia (8.9%, 26/292), hypophosphatemia (27.1%, 79/292), low 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)vitD) (67.0%, 196/292), hyperparathyroidismhigh parathyroid hormone (PTH) (50.6%, 148/292), elevated bone turnover markers and bone loss rate of 25%-30%. The prevalence of LVH, LVEF<50%, left ventricular diastolic dysfunction, high CAC score and high TAC score were 39.9%(116/292), 0%, 13.1%(38/292), 17.3%(50/292) and 39.9%(116/292) respectively. The results of multivariate analysis indicated that LVH was correlated positively with hypertension and serum calcium (Ca) (95% CI: 1.242-28.080, P=0.026; 95% CI: 1.714-277.584, P=0.018); LVEF was correlated positively with lumbar vertebrae BMD (95% CI: 0.000 1-0.005 5, P=0.041); Left ventricular diastolic dysfunction was correlated positively with age, diabetes and parathyroid hyperplasia/nodules (95% CI: 1.050-1.176, P<0.001; 95% CI: 2.118-43.813, P=0.003 and 95% CI: 1.419-9.103, P=0.007); High CAC score was correlated positively with recipient age and dialysis time (95% CI: 1.036-1.160, P=0.001; 95% CI: 1.009-1.041, P=0.002); High TAC score was correlated positively with age (95% CI: 1.095-1.215, P<0.001). Correlation analysis indicated that TAC was correlated positively with serum Ca ( r=0.233, P=0.003), bone-specific alkaline phosphatase (BALP)( r=0.325, P<0.001) and type Ⅰ collagen cross-linked N-terminal peptide (NTX)( r=0.204, P=0.011) and negatively with femoral neck BMD ( r=0.194, P=0.017). Conclusions:There is a high prevalence of left ventricular structural and functional abnormalities and vascular calcification. It is closely correlated with mineral and bone disorders.
10.Peritoneal dialysis-related peritonitis caused by Campylobacter fetus: a case report and literature review

This paper reports a case of peritonitis caused by Campylobacter fetus in a continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) patient. The patient was a middle-aged man, with chronic kidney disease stage 5 secondary to chronic glomerulonephritis, and had been on CAPD for 6 years. He was admitted to our department with a 7 day history of abdominal pain and cloudy effluent. Peritoneal effluent culture was negative and metagenomic next-generation sequencing suggested Campylobacter fetus. Intraperitoneal treatment with amikacin was failed. Peritoneal dialysis catheter was removed and hemodialysis treatment was performed. After treatment of erythromycin oral for 4 weeks, the patient's symptoms was improved and discharged.
