Closed-loop neuromodulation, especially using the phase of the electroencephalography (EEG) rhythm to assess the real-time brain state and optimize the brain stimulation process, is becoming a hot research topic. Because the EEG signal is non-stationary, the commonly used EEG phase-based prediction methods have large variances, which may reduce the accuracy of the phase prediction. In this study, we proposed a machine learning-based EEG phase prediction network, which we call EEG phase prediction network (EPN), to capture the overall rhythm distribution pattern of subjects and map the instantaneous phase directly from the narrow-band EEG data. We verified the performance of EPN on pre-recorded data, simulated EEG data, and a real-time experiment. Compared with widely used state-of-the-art models (optimized multi-layer filter architecture, auto-regress, and educated temporal prediction), EPN achieved the lowest variance and the greatest accuracy. Thus, the EPN model will provide broader applications for EEG phase-based closed-loop neuromodulation.

Objective:To investigate the correlation of SERPINC1 and SERPINE1 gene polymorphisms with venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients with malignant tumors. Methods:A retrospective case-control study was conducted. A total of 227 patients with malignant tumors in the Cancer Hospital Affiliated to Xinjiang Medical University from November 2023 to February 2024 were selected, of which 47 cases developed VTE (VTE group) and 180 cases did not develop VTE (non-VTE group). The patients' venous blood was collected, and D-dimer level was analyzed by using fully automatic coagulation analyzer; fluorescence staining was performed by using digoxin staining solution, and SERPINC1 rs2227589 locus and SERPINE1 rs1799762 locus were used as candidate genes, and fluorescence sequencing was performed by using multichannel fluorescence quantitative analyzer, and the frequencies of C, T, 4G and 5G genes were calculated. Results:There were no statistically significant differences in the age, gender, smoking, alcohol consumption, anticoagulant use, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, coronary artery disease, surgical treatment, intravenous cannulae, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and targeted therapy between the 2 groups (all P > 0.05). The level of D-dimer in the VTE group was higher than that in the non-VTE group [(8.7±6.9) kg/m 2vs. (2.8±1.0) kg/m 2], and the difference was statistically significant ( t = 5.15, P < 0.001). The differences in C and T genotypes and gene frequencies at the SERPINC1 rs2227589 locus between the VTE group and the non-VTE group were not statistically significant (all P > 0.05). The differences in 4G and 5G genotypes and gene frequencies at the SERPINE1 rs1799762 locus between the VTE group and the non-VTE group were statistically significant (all P < 0.05), and 4G allele frequency in the VTE group was higher than that in the non-VTE group (52.13% vs. 39.72%), and the difference was statistically significant ( χ2 = 4.70, P = 0.030). Conclusions:The elevated expression of 4G allele at the SERPINE1 rs1799762 locus in patients with malignant tumors is associated with development of VTE.

Objective:To construct a biosafety evaluation index system for major emergency public health events in medical institutions. Methods:Based on previous laboratory biosafety evaluation work, relevant regulations and standards on biosafety in China were collected through literature research and expert consultations. Candidate indicators for constructing the biosafety evaluation system for major emergency public health events in medical institutions were selected, and a framework was established. Two rounds of expert questionnaires were conducted to determine the content of the index system based on experts′ evaluation, and each indicator′s relevance and importance were scored. Finally, two rounds of Delphi consultations were carried out, and the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) was applied to calculate the weights of indicators. Results:The response rates for the total four rounds of questionnaire surveys were all 100%. The first two rounds focused on determining the framework, while the latter two focused on determining the weights for each indicator. The authority coefficients of the expert consultations for the two rounds of weights were 0.65 and 0.70, respectively, indicating the reliability of the research results. In the final round of survey, the Kendall′s coefficients of concordance at each level were all greater than 0.1. Through statistical testing, the P-values were all less than 0.05, indicating good coordination of expert opinions. Ultimately, we established an operational biosafety evaluation system for major emergency public health events in medical institutions, consisting of 4 primary indicators, 26 secondary indicators, and 119 tertiary indicators, with additional deduction items, bonus items, unacceptable items, and monitoring indicators. Conclusions:Based on scientific theory, a biosafety evaluation system for major emergency public health events in medical institutions was constructed, achieving the integration of routine and emergency measures. This system can be used for self-assessment of laboratory biosafety during emergency public health events, addressing the lack of unified standards in biosafety evaluation. Through regular self-assessment, it can enhance the level of biosafety management in medical institution laboratories, to realize the value of application and dissemination.

Objective To investigate the differences in cortical activation and functional connectivity during speech under different cognitive loads in young individuals. Methods Twenty-one participants(mean age 21.9±1.33 years)were instructed to read short sentences embedded with color words under both congruent(where the color words matched the font color)and incongruent(where the color words did not match the font color)condi-tions.The color words required reading the font color instead of the word itself.Functional near-infrared spectros-copy(fNIRS)was utilized to analyze differences in cortical activation(changes in HbO concentration)and functional connectivity(Pearson correlation of HbO between brain regions)in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex(DLPFC)and supplementary motor area(SMA)bilaterally. Results The fNIRS results revealed significant increase in HbO con-centration changes in the RDLPFC(t=3.4,P=0.003),LDLPFC(t=2.58,P=0.019),RSMA(t=3.59,P=0.002),and LSMA(t=4.06,P=0.001)under the incongruent condition compared to the congruent condition.Additionally, there was a significant enhancement in the correlation between RDLPFC and LDLPFC(t=2.44,P=0.025).However,the differences in correlation between left and right SMA,as well as between SMA and DLPFC,were not statistically significant(P>0.05).Conclusion These findings suggest that during speech under incongru-ent conditions, increased cognitive load leads to elevated cortical activation in the DLPFC and SMA,along with in-creased functional connectivity between the left and right DLPFC.
