In recent years, the rapid development of transportation and sports industries, coupled with the accelerated population aging in China, has led to a steady increase in the incidence of articular cartilage injuries, wear, and degenerative changes. Currently, the clinical treatment options for cartilage defects primarily include conservative therapies and surgical interventions, both of which have certain limitations. Cartilage tissue engineering (CTE), as a novel technology, provides an infinite prospect for cartilage regeneration and repair. Because of the abilities of scaffolds to mimic the natural cartilage structure, exhibit excellent biocompatibility and biomimetic mechanical properties, and promote cell adhesion and proliferation, scaffolds are considered effective delivery systems for growth factors, genes, and drugs. This review summarizes the clinical treatments for cartilage defects and their limitations, discusses the materials and preparation techniques of scaffolds used in CTE, with a particular focus on drug-loaded scaffold delivery systems in cartilage repair and regeneration, and offers a perspective on the future application of drug-loaded CTE. The aim is to provide theoretical guidance and new approaches for the repair of cartilage defects.

Journal of Sichuan University (Medical Sciences) 2025;56(4):900-906
Obesity and overweight remain major global public health challenges. In this paper,we examine current applications of digital nutrition technologies in weight management using the scoping review framework of Arksey and O'Malley.Visual recognition technologies have evolved from early-stage food image recognition into more advanced systems, although the vast diversity of food types continues to pose challenges for accuracy and generalizability. The combination of wearable devices and non-wearable sensors has increased the diversity of collected data and improved user comfort.Data integration and analysis tools, such as digital virtual twins, support personalized interventions by integrating multidimensional data.In addition, emerging applications have demonstrated encouraging clinical outcomes. However, existing studies have limitations, such as small sample sizes, high levels of information bias, and low evidence quality.Barriers, such as limited accessibility and high initial costs, further constrain the scalability of digital nutrition tools.Future studies should focus on expanding sample sizes, improving population diversity, and developing effective assessment methods and adjustments for specific target populations.Privacy and data security concerns must also be addressed to ensure safe implementation.Overall, digital nutrition technologies offer a promising approach to weight management, but continuous efforts in research and cost reduction are needed to fully realize their potential in weight management and to promote health for all.

Cinnamomi Ramulus and Alismatis Rhizoma are commonly used in the treatment of external-contraction diseases. Cinnamomi Ramulus is pungent, sweet, and warm, with the effects of ventilating lung and dispersing cold, warming Yang and transforming Qi, and promoting water and liquid flow from Taiyang meridian to remove dampness. Alismatis Rhizoma is sweet and cold, with the effects of draining dampness and promoting urination, regulating the waterway, removing water retention in lung, and promoting urination to remove dampness and heat. Herbal pairs are extracted from the accumulated experience of medical practitioners over the ages in the use of medicines and have been proved by clinical application to be composed of simple and effective combinations for specific diseases. The herb pair Cinnamomi Ramulus-Alismatis Rhizoma is an important part in ancient classic formulas such as Wulingsan. Both herbs play a role in draining dampness and promoting urination, warming Yang and transforming Qi, being a representative herb pair used for treating external-contraction exterior syndrome and water retention inside. The review of ancient medical publications revealed that there were a large number of compound formulas containing Cinnamomi Ramulus-Alismatis Rhizoma for dispersing cold and removing dampness, which were widely used for thousands of years in clinical practice. Modern pharmacological studies have shown that the active pharmacological components of Cinnamomi Ramulus (cinnamaldehyde and cinnamic acid) and Alismatis Rhizoma (alisol A and 23-acetate alisol B) have anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and immunoregulatory effects and high safety. Qingfei Paidu decoction containing this herbal pair played an important role in fighting against COVID-19. Despite the extensive pharmacological studies on Cinnamomi Ramulus and Alismatis Rhizoma, few studies have been carried out regarding this herb pair. This paper summarizes the traditional Chinese medicine knowledge about Cinnamomi Ramulus and Alismatis Rhizoma in the treatment of external-contraction diseases and summarizes the chemical composition, pharmacological effects, toxicology and other aspects of the two herbs before and after compatibility, aiming to provide a reference for further research and clinical application.

Osteoporotic vertebral compression fracture (OVCF) is the most common fragility fracture. Along with growth of population and increase of average life expectancy, the incidence of OVCF is rising constantly. As a common complication of OVCF, vertebral refracture not only possesses a high incidence, but also places a heavy physical, mental and financial burden on patients due to the pain and motor dysfunction. How to effectively prevent and treat the vertebral refracture has become a clinical focus at home and abroad. Vertebral refracture is a cumulative result of multiple factors, including patient factors as well as treatment factors. Accordingly, the authors summarize the related risk factors of vertebral refracture in OVCF patients in terms of systemic, local and therapeutic factors, so as to provide a certain reference for reducing the incidence of vertebral refracture and follow-up researches.
