As one of the most serious global public health concerns, malaria is highly prevalent in Africa and has severely hindered local social and economic developments. Anti-malaria aid underpinned by artemisinin has emerged as an iconic practice of China’s engagement in global health governance in the context of evolving global health governance, which continuously exerts its distinctive impact. The Artemisinin Anti-Malaria Team at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine is dedicated to safeguarding global health, committed to transforming artemisinin, a precious gift of traditional Chinese medicine to the world, into tangible impetus for malaria elimination. At the convergence of the China-Africa Year of People-to-People Exchanges and World Malaria Day, a review of China-Africa health cooperation is of specific significance. Based on the practices of international anti-malaria projects led by the Artemisinin Anti-Malaria Team at Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, this paper systematically summarizes the theoretical innovations, practical values and humanistic core of China’s anti-malaria approaches, and analyzes the core challenges in global malaria elimination programmes in the new era.

Objective To explore the efficiency of indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence imaging-guided hepatectomy and its short-term prognosis in patients with primary liver carcinoma. Methods Retrospective analysis was conducted on 166 patients diagnosed with primary liver carcinoma and admitted to the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery of Shanghai General Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine from June 2018 to June 2021. Patients were categorized into ICG group (n=72) and non-ICG group (n=94) based on the utilization of ICG during surgery. Moreover, the clinical information of preoperation, intraoperation, and postoperation were collected and compared between the two groups. ICG fluorescence images of the lesions in the ICG group were recorded for analysis. Results ICG fluorescence intensity is associated with the histopathology, differentiation grade of primary liver cancer, and the presence of liver cirrhosis. Hepatocellular carcinoma lesions predominantly displayed partial fluorescence, while intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma lesions showed circular fluorescence. Well differentiated tumors exhibited complete fluorescence (7/11), moderately differentiated tumors demonstrated partial fluorescence (28/51), and poorly differentiated tumors displayed circular fluorescence (7/10). Most patients with liver cirrhosis exhibited partial fluorescence (18/35) or complete fluorescence (13/35).Compared to the non-ICG group, the ICG group demonstrated higher serum albumin levels on the first (34.6 g/L vs. 31.4 g/L) and the third postoperative days (32.4 g/L vs. 31.2 g/L)(P<0.001). Conversely, the ICG group showed shorter operation time (170 min vs. 210 min), lower rate of intraoperative hepatic portal blockade (9.7% vs. 33.0%), less intraoperative blood loss (400 mL vs. 430 mL), shorter postoperative hospital stay (10 d vs. 14 d), and lower incidence of short-term postoperative complications (4.2% vs. 20.2%) (P<0.05) compared to the non-ICG group. Conclusions ICG fluorescence intensity is associated with the histopathology, differentiation grade of primary liver cancer, and the presence of liver cirrhosis.The judicious application of ICG fluorescence imaging technology alongside surgical techniques holds promise for improving short-term prognosis and expediting the postoperative recovery.

Methods: Noninvasive sampling and 16S rRNA high-throughput sequencing were used to compare the composition and function of the gut microbiota of three dog breeds: the Chinese Kunming dog (CKD), German Shepherd dog (GSD), and Belgian Malinois dog (BMD). Results: The gut microbiota of the three dog breeds consisted of 257 species across 146 genera, 60 families, 35 orders, 15 classes, and 10 phyla. The dominant bacterial phyla across the three breeds were Firmicutes (57.44%), Fusobacteriota (28.86%), and Bacteroidota (7.63%), while the dominant bacterial genera across the three breeds were Peptostreptococcus (21.08%), Fusobacterium (18.50%), Lactobacillus (12.37%), and Cetobacter (10.29%). Further analysis revealed significant differences in the intestinal flora of the three breeds at the phylum and genus levels. The intestinal flora of BMD was significantly richer than that of CKD and GSD. The functional prediction and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes analysis showed that the primary functions of the gut microbiota in these breeds were similar, with significant enrichment in various metabolic pathways, including carbohydrate and amino acid metabolism, secondary metabolite biosynthesis, and microbial metabolism in different environments. The intestinal flora of these breeds also played a crucial role in genetic information processing, including transcription, translation, replication, and material transport. Conclusions and Relevance: These results provide novel insights into the intestinal flora of intervention dogs and suggest novel methods to improve their health status, which help increase microbial diversity and normalize metabolite production in diseased dogs.
