Chinese Medical Ethics 2025;38(1):116-122
Clinically, the occurrence of the breaking bad news is inevitable. For patients, they not only need to accept and cope with bad news, but also need to inform the bad news to their families with clear thinking and appropriate language, seeking their support and cooperation. This paper analysed the connotation and informing dilemma of bad news, investigated patients’ informing tendencies, as well as evaluated the advantages and disadvantages of three disclosure methods, including concealment, immediate informing, and staged informing. On these bases, a detailed response strategy for patients to inform their families was proposed in three parts, including pre-preparation, mid-articulation, and post-summary. In the initial phase, thorough preparation is essential. During the middle stage, when delivering bad news, use plain language and help family members adjust their emotions. In the final phase, ensure that all information and viewpoints have been fully communicated. In addition, the roles and analysis steps that doctors should play were analysed from their perspective and combined with the degree of doctor-patient trust. Effective informing of bad news is not only about communication skills, but also involves a deep understanding and respect for the psychological needs of patients and their families. Through meticulous preparation, appropriate expression, emotional support, and clear confirmation, communication and trust are promoted to face and overcome difficulties together.
2.Correlation between depressive symptom and traditional Chinese medicine constitution among school aged children and adolescents
Chinese Journal of School Health 2025;46(9):1222-1225
Objective:
To explore the correlation between traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) constitution and depressive symptom among school aged children and adolescents, so as to provide evidences for informing constitution based regulation and prevention of depressive symptom.
Methods:
From June to December 2024, a total of 4 729 students aged 6-14 were recruited by cluster random sampling from 10 primary schools in Baoding (Hebei Province), Heze and Liaocheng (Shandong Province). General information, TCM constitution and depressive symptom were collected. Restricted cubic spline (RCS) models were used to analyze related factors and threshold effects of depressive symptom. Binary Logistic regression was applied to examine the association between depressive symptom and TCM constitution, with subgroup analyses conducted.
Results:
The detection rate of depressive symptom among the included children and adolescents was 25.82%. RCS analyses indicated non linear associations between depressive symptom and age (inflection point at 10 years old), bedtime (inflection point at 22:00), and wake up time (inflection point at 6:30 ) (all P non linearity <0.01). Linear associations were observed with body mass index (BMI) and sleep duration (all P non linearity > 0.05 ). After adjusting for covariates such as age, BMI and sleep status, binary Logistic regression analyses showed that Yin deficient constitution ( OR =1.26, 95% CI =1.09-1.45) and Phlegm-dampness constitution ( OR =1.42, 95% CI =1.11-1.82) were significantly associated with depressive symptom among children and adolescents (all P <0.05).
Conclusions
Depressive symptom among school aged children and adolescents is primarily associated with Yin deficiency and Phlegm dampness constitutions in TCM constitution. Active attention should be paid to susceptible TCM constitution among children and adolescents. Targeted health guidance and interventions should be implemented to improve TCM constitution health status for preventing the occurrence of depressive symptom.

5.Advances in the role of macrophages in the immunoregulatory treatment mechanism of uveitis
International Eye Science 2024;24(7):1068-1072
Uveitis is a common and refractory inflammatory blinding disease involving the uvea, retina, retinal vessels, and vitreous body. Its occurrence is related to the imbalance of immune mechanisms in various cell subpopulations. Macrophages play a central role in the body's innate immune system and can effectively clear pathogenic bacteria from the body. In stress responses, macrophages can participate in the body's pathogen response and inflammation regulation through polarization. Therefore, in order to systematically understand the important role of macrophage polarization balance in the immune regulation mechanism of uveitis, this article mainly links it with the occurrence and development of uveitis disease through the study of the source recognition of macrophages and the mechanism pathway, and finally summarizes the progress of related diagnosis and treatment.

Chinese Journal of Stomatology 2024;59(11):1120-1125
Objective:To evaluate the effect of polyetheretherketone (PEEK) periodontal splints and splints made from other materials under static loading on stress distributions in periodontal tissues, cement layer, and splints themselves. Methods:A finite element model based on cone-beam CT imaging data of a 25-year-old male patient (treated at the Department of Prosthodontics, School of Stomatology, The Fourth Military Medical University in October 2021 for a cracked maxillary molar) with a healthy and intact mandibular dentition and periodontal health was constructed. The finite element model included anterior mandible dentition, mandibular bone model without bone resorption (WBR group), a periodontally compromised mandible model (control group), and three types of periodontal splints: a PEEK periodontal splint (0.7 mm thick, Young′s modulus: 4.1 MPa), a fiber-reinforced resin (FRC) splint (1.0 mm thick, Young′s modulus: 37.0 MPa), and a titanium splint (1.2 mm thick, Young′s modulus: 110.0 MPa). The bone resorption models fixed with different periodontal splints constituted the experimental groups (PEEK group, FRC group and titanium group). Loading of 100 N was applied on the midpoint of the incisal edge of tooth 41. The direction was set at 0°, which was parallel to the long axis of the tooth and downward. The buccal to lingual and downward angles were 30°and 60°, respectively, perpendicular to the long axis of the tooth and 90° to the lingual side. The finite element analysis software was utilized to analyze the stress distribution characteristics of the periodontal tissues, adhesive layer, and the splint itself in the anterior mandibular teeth among the different group. Results:Under the different loading simulation, in the control group, the maximal von Mises stresses of periodontal ligament and bone were 15.7-50.2 MPa and 38.8-130.3 MPa, respectively, and in the WBR group, the maximal von Mises stresses of periodontal ligament and bone were 3.6-6.4 MPa and 16.5-42.7 MPa, respectively. Under the same loading conditions, the magnitude of maximal von Mises stresses in periodontal tissues in the PEEK group was 4.6-6.2 MPa, and the magnitude of stresses in the periodontal ligament of 41 teeth in the WBR group was similar to that in the PEEK group, but higher than that in the FRC and titanium groups. The maximal von Mises stresses of each group is primarily distributed in the periodontal ligament and alveolar bone at the cervical area of the tooth. The higher the elastic modulus of the splint, the higher its own maximal von Mises stresses, and the smaller the maximal principal stresses transmitted to the adhesive layer. In the PEEK group and titanium group, the stress distribution area in the adhesive layer and the splint was near the splint connection adjacent to tooth 41.Conclusions:Periodontal splints fabricated from three types of materials, are effective in distributing stress within the periodontal tissues of the abutment teeth. Compared to FRC and titanium group, the higher PEEK splint stress value was obtained, and the smaller the stress value was transmitted to its adhesive layer.
