Brain tinnitus is a common clinical condition whose pathogenesis is not yet fully understood, and it still lacks effective therapies in clinical practice.Professor Liu Maocai believes that the clinical manifestations of brain tinnitus are usually characterized by deficiency syndrome, and sometimes are complicated excess syndrome. The disease is located in the brain and is closely related to the liver, spleen, and kidney. The treatment of brain tinnitus should be focused on tonifying the liver and kidney, and strengthening the spleen, and methods of calming the liver to extinguish wind, resolving phlegm to open the orifices, and activating blood circulation to unblock collaterals can be used for excess syndrome. In clinical practice,Professor Liu Maocai is skilled in using herb pairs such as Astragali Radix-Codonopsis Radix,Eucommiae Cortex-Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix,Paeoniae Radix Alba-Bupleuri Radix,Angelicae Sinensis Radix-Chuanxiong Rhizoma,Gastrodiae Rhizoma-Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis, and Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma-Polygalae Radix.Professor Liu Maocai's experience in treating brain tinnitus from the perspective of the liver, spleen, and kidney can provide valuable references for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of brain tinnitus with traditional Chinese medicine.

Objective To reveal pathogenesis and etiology in adrenal incidentaloma. Methods The clinical data of 116 patients with adrenal incidentaloma from January 1, 2015 to January 1, 2017 were retrospectively analyzed. Results In 116 patients with adrenal incidentaloma, 49 cases (42.2%) were male and 67 cases (57.7%) were female; there were 14 cases (12.1%) aged from 20 to 40, 63 cases (54.3%) aged from 40 to 60, and 39 cases (33.6%) > 60 years. Forty-three patients (37.1%) were found by health examination, 26 patients (22.4%) were found because of hypertension, 27 patients (23.3%) were found by CT detection because of other diseases, and 20 cases (17.2% ) were found because of other reasons. The result of endocrine function examination showed that nonfunctioning adrenal tumor was in 56 cases (48.3%); functional adrenal tumor was in 44 cases (37.9%), among whom primary aldosteronism was in 27 cases, Cushing syndrome was in 10 cases, and pheochromocytoma was in 7 cases;nonfunctioning non- adenoma was in 16 cases (13.8% ). Conclusions It is frequent that the adrenal incidentaloma is found by health examination. The patients with adrenal incidentaloma should examine the endocrine function and identify the benign or malignant. And if necessary, surgical treatment should be performed.

Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy of transcatheter super-selective hepatic artery embolization (TAE) in treating symptomatic polycystic liver disease (PLD). Methods A total of 8 patients with PLD, who were admitted to authors’ hospital during the period from 2009 to 2013 to receive TAE, were enrolled in this study. The patients included 6 females and 2 males with a mean age of 59.5 years (54-65 years). The used embolic agents were polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) microspheres and micro spring coils. Both plain and contrast-enhanced CT scans of the upper abdomen were performed before TAE as well as at 12 months after TAE; the total volume of the hepatic cysts was measured and the changes of the cystic volume were determined. Statistical analysis was conducted using paired t test. Results The technical success rate was 100%. After TAE, the patients developed fever and different degrees of discomfort at liver area, which were disappeared after active symptomatic medication, and no serious complications occurred. The patients were followed up for 12 months , the mean total volume of the intrahepatic cysts decreased from preoperative (5 794±2 066) cm3 (range 3 120-8 935 cm3) to postoperative (3 832±1 525) cm3 (range 2 019-5 925 cm3), the difference was statistically significant (t=6.971, P<0.001). The reduction ratio of total volume of intrahepatic cysts was 34.6%±11.3%(24.3%-60.4%). Conclusion For symptomatic polycystic liver disease, transcatheter super-selective hepatic arterial embolization is a newly-developed treatment. This technique is safe and effective with reliable response and fewer complications. Therefore, it should be recommended in clinical practice.
