BACKGROUND:Satellite cells are myogenic stem cells located between the muscle fiber membrane and the basement membrane. However,a comprehensive review of the aging mechanisms of satellite cells and their potential mitigation strategies is still lacking. This gap in knowledge hinders the effective guidance for current strategies aimed at attenuating skeletal muscle aging. OBJECTIVE:To review the mechanisms of satellite cell aging in skeletal muscle and the relevant strategies for mitigating this aging process. METHODS:Major databases were searched up to May 2023,including Web of Science,PubMed,China National Knowledge Infrastructure(CNKI),WanFang Data, and VIP.Chinese and English search terms included"skeletal muscle, satellite cells, aging, mechanism, and solution strategy".After strict inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied,78 articles were finally included. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:(1)Satellite cells, situated between the muscle fiber membrane and basement membrane, possess proliferative and differentiative potential. They usually remain in a quiescent state but become activated in response to muscle tissue stimuli, participating in processes of repair and restoration of normal tissue structure.Aging leads to a reduction in satellite cell numbers, resulting in symptoms such as muscle weakness and decreased endurance.(2)Mechanisms of satellite cell aging primarily involve diminished regenerative capacity, perturbed niche interactions with changing ecology,age-dependent loss, and heterogeneity changes.Reduced satellite cell numbers and activity due to aging lead to slower muscle regeneration and increased injury recovery time.Errors during differentiation may occur, resulting in decreased muscle quality and function deterioration.(3)Strategies for mitigating satellite cell aging encompass modulation of the receptor environment of intra-body satellite cells, peripheral interventions to promote satellite cell regeneration, construction of human muscle models, and exercise and nutritional interventions to induce satellite cell proliferation. These strategies hold promise in offering novel insights and methods for satellite cell regeneration and treatment of skeletal muscle diseases.(4)Future research should delve into the mechanisms of satellite cell aging, explore the interaction between satellite cells and their niches, investigate the relationship of satellite cells with the immune system and mitochondrial function, and develop human muscle models to enhance research depth and accuracy.

ObjectiveChronic heart failure (CHF) is the terminal stage of cardiovascular disease. The adverse cardiovascular events of CHF patients with weakness have increased significantly. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has a good effect on CHF. However, there are few reports on the clinical observation of the treatment of CHF with weakness in elderly patients by TCM combined with conventional health-preserving exercises. This study aimed to explore the clinical efficacy of Qiangxin decoction combined with Baduanjin in the treatment of elderly patients with CHF and weakness. MethodSixty CHF patients with Qi deficiency, blood stasis, and water retention syndrome admitted to the Cardiovascular Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine from January 2020 to December 2021 were enrolled. The patients in the control group were treated with conventional western medicine according to the guidelines, while those in the treatment group received additional Qiangxin decoction and Baduanjin exercise based on the therapeutic protocol of the control group. The levels of serum N-terminal B-type brain natriuretic peptide precursor (NT-proBNP),creatine kinase (CK),lactate dehydrogenase (LDH),free fatty acid (FFA),left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF),left ventricular end-diastolic dimension (LEVDD),6-minute walk distance (6MWD),Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire (MLHFQ), and Tilburg Frailty Indicator (TFI) scores of the two groups were observed before and one month after treatment. At the same time, the re-admission within three months was compared between the two groups. ResultThere was no significant difference between the two groups in terms of the general data and the therapeutic indexes before treatment. After treatment, the NT-proBNP,CK,LDH,FFA,LVEDD,MLHFQ, and TFI scores of the two groups were lower than those before treatment(P<0.05,P<0.01), and the LVEF and 6MWD were higher(P<0.05,P<0.01). The efficacy of the treatment group was superior to that of the control group after treatment (P<0.05,P<0.01). The re-admission rate within three months in the treatment group was 7.1% (2/28), lower than 30.8% (8/26) in the control group (χ2=4.897,P<0.05). ConclusionQiangxin decoction combined with Baduanjin is helpful to improve the body energy metabolism, heart function, quality of life, and weakness level of elderly CHF patients with weakness, and reduce the rate of re-admission.

OBJECTIVETo study the effect of chrysin in inducing apoptosis of human hepatic carcinoma cells and explore the possible mechanism.
METHODSHuman hepatic carcinoma SMMC-7721 cells treated with DMSO or chrysin at different concentrations (5-200 μg/mL) were examined for changes in the cell proliferation using CCK-8 assay. The morphological changes of SMMC-7721 cells were observed in response to treatment with 5, 10, or 20 μg/mL chrysin, and the changes in the cell nuclei were observed using DAPI nuclear staining. Annexin Ⅴ-FITC/PI flow cytometry was used to determine the cell apoptosis rate. The changes in the apoptosis-related proteins (PARP and caspase-3) and MAPKs signal pathway were detected with Western blotting.
RESULTSChrysin treatment obviously suppressed the proliferation of SMMC-7721 cells in a dose-dependent manner below the concentration of 60 μg/mL. Chrysin (20 μg/mL) also caused significantly increased cell apoptosis and significant cleavage of PARP and caspase-3. Chrysin significantly activated MAPKs signaling pathway in a time-and dose-dependent manner, with the peak activation level occurring at 15 min. Pretreatment of the cells with specific inhibitors of the MAPKs pathway obviously inhibited the effect of chrysin in inducing cell apoptosis.
CONCLUSIONSChrysin inhibits the proliferation and promotes apoptosis of SMMC-7721 cells by regulating the activation of MAPKs signaling.

We isolated and enriched mixed microorganisms SWA1 from landfill cover soils supplemented with trichloroethylene (TCE). The microbial mixture could degrade TCE effectively under aerobic conditions. Then, we investigated the effect of copper ion (0 to 15 μmol/L) on TCE biodegradation. Results show that the maximum TCE degradation speed was 29.60 nmol/min with 95.75% degradation when copper ion was at 0.03 μmol/L. In addition, genes encoding key enzymes during biodegradation were analyzed by Real-time quantitative reverse transcription PCR (RT-qPCR). The relative expression abundance of pmoA gene (4.22E-03) and mmoX gene (9.30E-06) was the highest when copper ion was at 0.03 μmol/L. Finally, we also used MiSeq pyrosequencing to investigate the diversity of microbial community. Methylocystaceae that can co-metabolic degrade TCE were the dominant microorganisms; other microorganisms with the function of direct oxidation of TCE were also included in SWA1 and the microbial diversity decreased significantly along with increasing of copper ion concentration. Based on the above results, variation of copper ion concentration affected the composition of SWA1 and degradation mechanism of TCE. The degradation mechanism of TCE included co-metabolism degradation of methanotrophs and oxidation metabolism directly at copper ion of 0.03 μmol/L. When copper ion at 5 μmol/L (biodegradation was 84.75%), the degradation mechanism of TCE included direct-degradation and co-metabolism degradation of methanotrophs and microorganisms containing phenol hydroxylase. Therefore, biodegradation of TCE by microorganisms was a complicated process, the degradation mechanism included co-metabolism degradation of methanotrophs and bio-oxidation of non-methanotrophs.

OBJECTIVETo determine the expressions of miR-155, miR-34a and miR-30a in diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) and to explore their potential correlation with clinicopathological characteristics.
METHODSThe expression level of miR-155, miR-34a and miR-30a in 46 DLBCL samples were determined with TaqMan real-time polymerase chain reaction. Interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization (I-FISH) was performed to detect MYC and p53 genes' status, and immunohistochemistry (Envision method) was used to evaluate the expression of CD3, CD10, CD20, BCL-6 and MUM-1 in DLBCL. The DLBCLs were classified into germinal center B cell-like (GCB) and non germinal center B cell-like (non-GCB) subtypes according to Hans' criteria.
RESULTSCompared with normal controls, miR-155 expression level was significantly higher in DLBCL. The expression level of miR-155 in non-GCB type was higher than that in GCB type. It was shown that the patients with MYC rearrangement had lower expression level of miR-155 than the negative controls. Compared with p53 normal group, the expression level of miR-34a was significantly lower in p53 deletion group. It was also shown that the patients with BCL-6 protein expression had lower expression of miR-30a compared with the negative group.
CONCLUSIONmiR-155 expression level is different in normal controls, DLBCL and patients with subtype DLBCL. It therefore has a diagnosis value for DLBCL. miR-34a is of great prognostic significance. miR-155, miR-34a and miR-30a may be potential therapy targets for DLBCL.

Journal of Clinical Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery 2011;25(11):486-488
OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the relationship between the subjective sensation of nasal obstruction and the corresponding objective parameters of acoustic rhinometry.
METHOD:
Three hundred and sixty-five patients with nasal diseases were divided into two groups: one group included 220 cases with nasal obstruction, and the second group of 145 cases without nasal obstruction. Seventy healthy adults were selected as control. Each one were assessed for nasal minimal cross-sectional area (NMCA), volume of nasal cavity (NV), nasal airway resistance (NAR) and distance of the minimal cross section area from the nostril (DCAN) by using acoustic rhinometry, and the subjective test were performed using the VAS scores. The results were statistically analyzed.
RESULT:
NV, DCAN and NAR had a significant difference between nasal obstruct group and control group (P < 0.05). The VAS score had linear correlation with NMCA, NV, DCAN and NAR, and the correlation coefficient were R(NAR) = 0.7385, R(NV) = -0.853 2, R(NMCA) = -0.745 4 and R(DCAN) = 0.369 7, respectively.
CONCLUSION
Since NAR and NV coincide with the subjective perception of patients with nasal obstruction, they can be used as the sensitive parameters to evaluate subjective symptoms of patients.
