Wilson disease (WD) is one of the few treatable neurogenetic disorders. Currently, Western medicine remains the main treatment method for WD, while since the 1990s, multiple studies conducted by Professor Yang Renmin and his team have shown that traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) also has a favorable therapeutic effect. Based on the principle of low-copper diet for WD, this article systematically elaborates on the advantages, limitations, and key considerations of current Western medicine therapies (pharmacotherapy, liver transplantation, and splenectomy) and reviews the research findings of TCM in China, especially the wide application of Gandou Decoction in clinical practice. Studies have shown that Gandou Decoction can effectively improve neurological symptoms, protect hepatic and renal function, and avoid the adverse drug reactions associated with metal chelating agents, and therefore, it can be used an effective long-term adjuvant therapy for WD. It should be noted that symptoms and signs should be considered in integrated traditional Chinese and Western medicine therapy for WD, and high-copper TCM drugs should be avoided to prevent deterioration.

Enamel demineralization, the formation of white spot lesions, is a common issue in clinical orthodontic treatment. The appearance of white spot lesions not only affects the texture and health of dental hard tissues but also impacts the health and aesthetics of teeth after orthodontic treatment. The prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of white spot lesions that occur throughout the orthodontic treatment process involve multiple dental specialties. This expert consensus will focus on providing guiding opinions on the management and prevention of white spot lesions during orthodontic treatment, advocating for proactive prevention, early detection, timely treatment, scientific follow-up, and multidisciplinary management of white spot lesions throughout the orthodontic process, thereby maintaining the dental health of patients during orthodontic treatment.

Blood products are biological products derived from human plasma for use in clinical treatment. As such, they inherently carry the risk of blood-bome viral contamination, which has garnered significant attention from regulatory agencies worldwide regarding the viral safety of these products. This article compares and discusses the differences in domestic and international regulations on viral safety for blood products, focusing on aspects such as raw material selection and viral testing.Additionally, the article explores further impactful measures for viral safety control, namely, viral reduction during the manufacturing process and strategies to prevent cross-contamination.Moreover,we propose corresponding recommendations for China's regulatory framework to further enhance the viral safety of blood products in the country.

As an important part of TCM diagnosis, eye diagnosis is of great significance and value in identifying the symptoms of diseases and predicting the regression of diseases. With the progress of science and technology, the research on"syndrome differentiation by observing the eyes"is gradually converging towards digitalization, standardization and objectification.Based on the theoretical foundation of"syndrome differentiation by observing the eyes",this article reviewed the modern clinical applications of objectifying eye diagnosis from aspects such as observing the scleral vessels, observing fundus signs, and observing eye movement information, and found that modern technological means such as eye diagnostic instrument, eye movement instrument and artificial intelligence algorithms have provided accurate and objective diagnostic bases for TCM syndrome differentiation by observing the eyes to identify the syndrome and have greatly promoted the development of the objectification of eye diagnosis. However, the objective application of eye diagnosis still faces challenges related to technology, data and standardization, calling for further in-depth research and the establishment of unified standards.Exploring the current research status and strategies can provide theoretical references for the objectification of TCM eye diagnosis and the improvement of clinical visual diagnosis accuracy.
6.Wernekinck commissure syndrome caused by ischemic stroke
Journal of Apoplexy and Nervous Diseases 2025;42(3):249-254
Objective Wernekinck commissure syndrome(WCS)is a rare syndrome in clinical practice caused by Wernekinck commissure lesions, with the clinical manifestations of bilateral limb ataxia and dysarthria. This article analyzes the clinical features and other characteristics of WCS caused by ischemic stroke through a literature review, in order to improve the understanding of this syndrome among clinicians. Methods CNKI, Wanfang Data, and PubMed databases were searched for articles on WCS caused by ischemic stroke, and the clinical manifestations of reported WCS cases were analyzed and summarized. Results Among the 57 patients with WCS caused by ischemic stroke,48(84.2%) had bilateral cerebellar ataxia,48(84.2%) had dysarthria, 36(63.2%) had varying degrees of limitation of eye movement, 36 (63.2%)had dizziness,30(52.6%)had nystagmus,12(21.1%) had disturbance of consciousness,9(15.8%)had Holmes tremor, and 7(12.3%)had palatal myoclonus. When lesions involved Wernekinck commissure and the adjacent structures, patients might have the manifestations such as bilateral ataxia, dysarthria, limitation of eye movement, nystagmus, Holmes tremor, and disturbance of consciousness. Conclusion WCS caused by ischemic stroke has the main manifestations of bilateral limb ataxia, dysarthria, and eye movement disorder, and palatal myoclonus is relatively rare in the early stage and usually occurs along with hypertrophy of the inferior olivary nucleus in the late stage.

Objective:To investigate the current prevalence and control status of coal-burning-borne endemic fluorosis in key areas of the disease in Zhenxiong County of Yunnan Province, thereby providing scientific basis for formulating subsequent prevention strategies and measures. Methods:From October to November 2023, a simple random sampling method was used to conduct a survey in three key townships (towns) in Zhenxiong County, Chishuiyuan Town, Yanyuan Town, and Linkou Yi and Miao Ethnic Township. Three administrative villages were selected from each township (town) as survey sites, and dental fluorosis examination on children aged 8 - 12 years who were born and lived in the local area was conducted. Thirty households were selected from each survey site, the use of household stoves and the formation of related healthy living behaviors were investigated. At the same time, a survey was conducted among primary school students and housewives to investigate their knowledge of coal-burning-borne endemic fluorosis prevention and control. The control and elimination of endemic areas were evaluated according to the "Assessment Protocol for Control and Elimination of Key Endemic Diseases (2019 Edition)".Results:A total of 1 172 children were examined, and the detection rate of dental fluorosis was 7.76% (91/1 172), with a dental fluorosis index of 0.11. A total of 295 households were investigated, and the qualified improved stoves rate and the correct use rate of qualified improved stoves were 95.59% (282/295) and 100% (282/282), respectively. The correct drying rate of edible corn and chili peppers was 79.66% (235/295). The awareness rates of coal-burning-borne endemic fluorosis prevention and control knowledge among housewives and primary school students were 46.69% (409/876) and 82.49% (440.5/534), respectively. Among the 9 villages investigated, two villages had met the criteria for eliminating endemic disease areas, two villages had met the criteria for controlling endemic disease areas, and the remaining 5 villages were uncontrolled. Conclusions:After implementing the comprehensive prevention and control measures mainly based on changing stoves, coal-burning-borne endemic fluorosis condition in Zhenxiong County has been effectively controlled, but there is still a significant gap between the elimination goals of some endemic fluorosis areas. Therefore, it is necessary to continue to strengthen prevention and control measures and promote health education.
