1.Visual analysis of the effect of apoptosis on ischemic stroke

BACKGROUND:Ischemic stroke is a highly prevalent disease associated with apoptosis.Neuronal death occurs after cerebral ischemia,including necrosis and apoptosis.The ischemic core region is dominated by necrosis,while delayed neuronal death in the penumbra is dominated by apoptosis.The penumbra has become a target for the treatment of ischemic stroke.This bibliometric analysis was used to identify the characteristics,hotspots,and frontiers of global scientific output related to apoptosis in ischemic stroke over the past 5 years. OBJECTIVE:To analyze the role of apoptosis and its mechanisms in the pathological process of ischemic stroke through a bibliometric approach. METHODS:A total of 927 relevant literature records from 2018 to 2022 were retrieved from Science Citation Index Expanded(SCI-Expanded)and Social Science Citation Index Expanded(SSCI-Expanded)of the Web of Science Core Collection.Research trends and hotspots of apoptosis in ischemic stroke were visualized using Citespace,VOSviewer and Bibliometrix. RESULTS AND CONCLUSION:From 2018 to 2020,the number of papers on the role of apoptosis in ischemic stroke showed an upward trend,but in 2020,the number of papers began to reduce.China had the largest number of publications,and the United States ranked the second.Capital Medical University and BRAIN RESEARCH BULLETIN were the institutions and journals with the most articles,respectively.In recent years,the two keywords"expression"and"oxidative stress"have appeared more frequently.The bibliometric study showed that in the past 5 years,most of the studies focused on basic research,in which research on the role of apoptosis in ischemic stroke has gradually decreased in the last 3 years,showing a downward trend.On the contrary,nerve regeneration has gradually become a research hotspot,especially the regulation of neurotrophic factors under the influence of different mechanisms,and the research on angiogenesis and glial cell repair is on the rise.At the same time,apoptosis in nerve regeneration is a potential point of discovery.

Epidemiological studies on spinal cord tumors are rare, and studies on primary intramedullary tumors are even rarer. The incidence and survival of patients with primary intramedullary spinal cord tumors have not been well documented. We aimed to study the incidence and survival of patients with primary spinal cord malignant and borderline malignant tumors based on data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database and provide information for revealing the epidemiology and exploring the prognosis of patients with primary intramedullary tumors.
Methods:
Patients in the SEER database with microscopically diagnosed malignant and borderline malignant primary spinal cord tumors from 2000 and 2019 were included in this study. We analyzed the distribution of patients according to the demographic and clinical characteristics. Then, we extracted the incidence rate and 5-year relative survival for the whole cohort and different subgroups of the cohort. Finally, multivariate Cox proportional hazards models were used to analyze the independent prognostic factors associated with overall survival.
Results:
A total of 5,211 patients with malignant and borderline malignant primary spinal cord tumors were included in this cohort study. Ependymoma, astrocytoma (including oligodendrogliomas and glioblastoma), lymphoma and hemangioblastoma were the most common pathological types. The age-adjusted incidence rates of primary spinal cord ependymoma was 0.18 per 100,000. The incidence rate for females was significantly lower than that for males. The incidence rate was highest in Caucasian. The incidence rate of ependymoma was significantly higher than that of other pathological types. The incidence of astrocytoma was highest among people aged 0–19 years, the incidence of ependymoma was highest among people aged 40–59 years, and the incidence of lymphoma was highest among people aged 60 years or older. The 5-year observed survival and relative survival rates for the whole cohort were 82.80% and 86.00%, respectively. Patients diagnosed with ependymoma had significantly better survival than their counterparts. We also found the impact of surgery and chemotherapy on the prognosis of patients with different tumors varies a lot.
Conclusion
We conducted a population-based analysis of malignant and borderline malignant primary spinal cord tumors with the aim of revealing the epidemiology and survival of patients with primary intramedullary spinal cord tumors. Despite some shortcomings, this study provides valuable information to help us better understand the epidemiological characteristics of primary intramedullary spinal cord tumors.

7.Effects of neuroendoscopic hematoma removal versus soft channel drainage in the treatment of chronic subdural hematoma

Objective:To investigate the clinical efficacy of neuroendoscopic hematoma removal versus soft channel drainage in the treatment of chronic subdural hematoma. Methods:The clinical data of 102 patients with chronic subdural hematoma who received treatment in Jincheng People's Hospital from May 2018 to May 2020 were retrospectively analyzed. They were divided into the neuroendoscopy group ( n = 50) and the soft channel group ( n = 52) according to different surgical methods. Perioperative indexes, hematoma clearance rate, China Stroke Scale score, the activity of daily living score, and oxidative stress indexes were compared between the two groups. All patients were followed up for 3 months. The incidence of complications during the follow-up period was calculated. Results:The retention time of the drainage tube in the neuroendoscopy group was shorter than that in the soft channel group [(2.45 ± 0.63) days vs. (3.30 ± 0.78) days, t = 6.06, P < 0.001]. The length of hospital stay in the neuroendoscopy group was shorter than that in the soft channel group [(7.14 ± 1.65) days vs. (9.07 ± 2.11) days, t = 5.15, P < 0.001]. The hematoma clearance rate at postoperative 7 days in the neuroendoscopy group was higher than that in the soft channel group [(93.45 ± 5.50)% vs. (81.86 ± 7.24)%, χ2 = 9.12, P < 0.001]. There were no significant differences in operation time and intraoperative blood loss between the two groups (both P > 0.05). At postoperative 30 days, the China Stroke Scale score in the neuroendoscopy group was lower than that in the soft channel group [(12.74 ± 2.23) points vs. (18.67 ± 2.45) points, t = 12.79, P < 0.001]. The activity of daily life score in the neuroendoscopy group was significantly higher than that in the soft channel group [(77.69 ± 7.11) points vs. (91.35 ± 7.25) points, t = 9.60, P < 0.001]. At postoperative 7 days, glutathione peroxidase level in the neuroendoscopy group was significantly lower than that in the soft channel group [(130.75 ± 13.66) U/L vs. (148.60 ± 14.64) U/L, t = 6.37, P < 0.001]. Malondialdehyde level in the neuroendoscopy group was significantly lower than that in the soft channel group [(5.11 ± 0.65) nmol/L vs. (6.19 ± 0.74) nmol/L, t = 7.83, P < 0.001]. Superoxide dismutase level in the neuroendoscopy group was significantly higher than that in the soft channel group [(275.60 ± 22.33) U/L vs. (254.60 ± 18.55) U/L, t = 5.15, P < 0.001]. There was no significant difference in the incidence of complications between the two groups ( P > 0.05). Conclusion:Compared with soft channel drainage, neuroendoscopic hematoma removal can obtain better short-term curative effects and less oxidative stress response in the treatment of chronic subdural hematoma. Neuroendoscopic hematoma removal does not increase the incidence of postoperative complications and is highly safe.
8.Effects of atosiban on various indexes of patients with threatened preterm birth

【Objective】 To investigate the effects of atosiban combined with ritodrine hydrochloride on clinical efficacy, serological indicators and maternal and infant outcomes of patients with threatened premature delivery. 【Methods】 A total of 138 patients with threatened preterm delivery in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of The First Affiliated Hospital of Air Force Military Medical University from June 2018 to June 2020 were collected and divided into two groups according to random number table method, with 69 patients in the control group treated with ritodrine hydrochloride and 69 patients in the study group treated with atosiban on the basis of the control group. Clinical efficacy, changes in serological indicators, maternal and child outcomes, and drug safety were compared between the two groups. 【Results】 There were 65 effective cases in the study group (94.20%) and 56 effective cases in the control group (81.16%). There were statistically significant differences between the two groups (P<0.05). The study group had significantly shorter onset time of the drug and significantly longer duration of pregnancy than the control group (P<0.05). Before treatment, there was no statistical difference in timp-1, il-8, il-6, NO and PGE2 levels between the two groups (P>0.05). After treatment, timp-1, il-8, il-6, NO and PGE2 levels in the study group were significantly lower than those in the control group (P<0.05). The success rate of fetal preservation, gestational age, neonatal weight and Apgar score were significantly higher in the study group than in the control group, while the rate of premature delivery was significantly lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). The incidence of drug-induced adverse reactions (5.80%) was significantly lower in the study group than in the control group (26.09%) (P<0.05). 【Conclusion】 Atosiban combined with ritodrine hydrochloride can effectively prolong pregnancy, reduce the level of serological indicators, improve maternal and infant outcomes, with fast effect, safe and significant efficacy. Therefore, it is worthy of application and promotion in the treatment of patients with threatened premature delivery.
9.Effectiveness of the "14 plus 7 day quarantine" and "nucleic acid plus total antibody testing" strategy for screening imported patients with COVID-19 in Xiamen

Objective:To analysis effectiveness of the "14 plus 7 day quarantine" and "nucleic acid plus total antibody testing" strategy (combined screening strategy) for screenin the imported patients with COVID-19 in Xiamen.Methods:The study populations were overseas travelers arriving in Xiamen from March 17 to December 31, 2020, and overseas travelers who had quarantine outside Xiamen for less than 21 days from July 18 to December 31, 2020. Data were collected and analyzed on the timing of detection, pathways, and test results of the imported patients with COVID-19 after implementing combined screening strategy.Results:A total of 304 imported patients with COVID-19 were found from 174 628 overseas travelers and 943 overseas travelers from other cities. A total of 163 cases (53.6%) were diagnosed by multitime, multisite intensive nucleic acid testing after positive finding in total antibody testing. Among them, 27 (8.9%) were first positive for nucleic acid in 14 plus 7 day quarantine and 136 were first positive for nucleic acid in 14-day quarantine. Only 8 of these individuals were tested positive for nucleic acid after positive total antibody testing. The other 128 individuals were tested positive for nucleic acid after being negative for average 2.3 times (maximum of 6 times). Aditional 155 cases might be detected by using the combined "14 plus 7 day quarantine" and " nucleic acid plus total antibody testing" strategy compared with "14-day quarantine and nucleic acid testing" strategy, accounting for 51.0% of the total inbound infections. So the combined screening strategy doubled the detection rate for imported patients with COVID-19. No second-generation case caused by overseas travelers had been reported in Xiamen as of February 26, 2021.Conclusions:Xiamen's combined screening strategy can effectively screen the imported patients with COVID-19 who were first positive for nucleic acid after 14 day quarantine. Compared with "14 day quarantine and nucleic acid testing", the combined screening strategy improved detection rate and further reduced the risk of the secondary transmission caused by the imported patients with COVID-19.
10.Analysis of TCOF1 mutation in a Chinese patient with Treacher-Collins syndrome.

OBJECTIVETo detect potential mutation of TCOF1 gene in a Chinese family affected with Treacher-Collins syndrome.
METHODSClinical data of the patient was collected. The analysis included history taking, clinical examination and genetic testing. All coding regions of the TCOF1 gene were subjected to PCR amplification and Sanger sequencing.
RESULTSA novel mutation c.2261ins G (p.E95X) of the TCOF1 gene was discovered in the patient. The same mutation was not found in his parents and 100 healthy controls.
CONCLUSIONThe c.2261insG (p.E95X) mutation of the TCOF1 gene probably underlies the disease in the patient. Genetic testing can facilitate diagnosis and genetic counseling for families affected with TCS.
