OBJECTIVE:
To investigate the regulatory effects of two traditional mineral medicines (TMMs), Gypsum Fibrosum (Shigao, GF) and Terra Flava Usta (Zaoxintu, TFU), on gut-beneficial bacteria in mice, and preliminarily explore their mechanisms of action.
METHODS:
Mice were randomly divided into 3 groups (n=10 per group): the control group (standard diet), the GF group (diet supplemented with 2% GF), and the TFU group (diet supplemented with 2% TFU). After 4-week intervention, 16S rRNA gene sequencing was used to analyze the changes in the gut microbiota (GM). Scanning electron microscopy, in combination with coumarin A tetramethyl rhodamine conjugate and Hoechst stainings, was used to observe the bacteria and biofilm formation.
RESULTS:
Principal coordinate analysis revealed that GF and TFU significantly altered the GM composition in mice. Further analysis revealed that GF and TFU affected different types of gut bacteria, suggesting that different TMMs may selectively modulate specific bacterial populations. For certain bacteria, such as Faecalibaculum and Ileibacterium, both GF and TFU exhibited growth-promoting effects, implying that they may be sensitive to TMMs and that different TMMs can increase their abundance through their respective mechanisms. Notably, Lactobacillus reuteri, a widely recognized and used probiotic, was significantly enriched in the GF group. Random forest analysis identified Ileibacterium valens as a potential indicator bacterium for TMMs' impact on GM. Further mechanistic studies showed that gut bacteria formed biofilm structures on the TFU surface.
CONCLUSIONS
This study provides new insights into the interaction between TMMs and GM. As safe and effective natural clays, GF and TFU hold promise as potential candidates for prebiotic development.

Objective To analyze the efficacy of two-hole and four-hole laparoscopic surgery in patients with sigmoid carcinoma, and to explore the influencing factors leading to complications. Methods The clinical data of 130 patients with sigmoid carcinoma who underwent laparoscopic surgery in our hospital from October 2020 to December 2022 were analyzed. The patients were divided into groups according to the surgical perforation methods.Sixty-eight patients in two-hole group were treated with two-hole laparoscopic surgery and 62 patients in four-hole group were treated with four-hole laparoscopic surgery. The perioperative indexes, visual analogue scale(VAS)scores and postoperative complications of patients in the two groups were observed and compared, and the influencing factors of complications were analyzed. Results The total incision length, first time to get out of bed, first postoperative exhaust time, postoperative hospital stay and VAS score at each time point after surgery of patients in two-hole group were significantly shorter/lower than those in four-hole group(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in the incidence of complications between the two groups(P>0.05).Univariate analysis showed that there were statistically significant differences in the age, preoperative albumin, operation time, intraoperative blood loss, first time to get out of bed, first postoperative exhaust time, postoperative hospital stay,VAS scores at the 3rd day and 5th days after surgery of patients in the occurrence group and the non-occurrence group(P<0.05).Further Logistic regression analysis showed that operation time and preoperative albumin<35 g/L were the main influencing factors for the occurrence of complications(P<0.05).Conclusion Compared with four-hole laparoscopic surgery,two-hole laparoscopic surgery for patients with sigmoid carcinoma has shorter time of perioperative recovery, less postoperative pain, and no difference was found in postoperative complications between the two methods.Operation time and preoperative albumin level<35 g/L were the main influencing factors for the occurence of complications.

Objective:To investigate the effect and mechanism of Chaihu Jia Longgu Mulitang (CJLM) on hippocampal NOD-like receptor protein 3 (NLRP3)inflammasome pathway in rats with depression. Method:Sixty male SD rats were randomly divided into a normal group,a model group, a MCC950 (1 mg·kg-1) group, and high- (13 g·kg-1), medium- (6.5 g·kg-1), and low-dose (3.25 g·kg-1) Chaihu Jia Longgu Mulitang groups, with 10 rats in each group. The depression model was induced by isolation combined with chronic unpredictable mild stimulation(CUMS) in rats except for those in the normal group. Rats were treated correspondingly for 21 days by intraperitoneal injection in the MCC950 group and gavage in other groups. The normal group and the model group received an equal volume of normal saline. The depression-like behaviors of rats were observed by sucrose preference test (SPT) and novelty-suppressed feeding test. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was used to determine the levels of interleukin-1

Recent Advances in Ophthalmology 2018;38(2):121-125
Objective To investigate the relationship between the expression of astrocyte elevated gene-1 (AEG-1) and its clinical pathological features in uveal melanoma. Methods Paraffm tissue specimens of 50 patients (50 eyes) with confirmed diagnosis of uveal melanoma (UM) were collected as experimental group, and samples from 11 patients (11 eyes) who underwent ocular excision due to trauma, still with largely intact uveal tissue, were selected as control group in the Department of Ophthalmology of Beijing Tongren Hospital from January 2013 to May 2017.Then the expression of AEG-1 in paraffm-embedded specimens was detected by immunohistochemical methods, and the correlation of AEG-1 expression with the clinical pathological data was analyzed. Results AEG-1 protein staining presented accurate pink or red granules, mainly located in UM nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane. In the experimental group, negative expression of AEG-1 was in 21 eyes (42.0%),and positive expression was in 29 eyes (58.0%),while AEG-1 were negatively expressed in the control group, and the difference in the two groups was statistically significant (P =0.000),suggesting that the expression of AEG-1 was upregulated in UM.In the experimental group,AEG-1 positive expression rate in patients with clinical pathological risk factors was significantly higher than that in patients without high risk factors (all P < 0.05),and the positive expression rate of AEG-1 in UM with involvement of the ciliary body and iris neovascularization, the maximum diameter of tumor base > 16 mm,tumor thickness > 8 mm,tumor cell type belonging to mixed cell type and epithelioid/mixed cell type, and extra ocular tumor growth was 73.1%,73.9%,95.2%,82.4%,83.3%,74.1% and 69.4%,respectively.However,there was no significant difference in AEG-1 expression among general clinical data including gender, eyes, age, optic disc involvement, secondary retinal detachment, epithelioid cell type and scleral duct invasion (all P > 0.05).Conclusion AEG-1 is overexpressed in UM and has a significant correlation with multiple clinical risk factors, suggesting that high expression of AEG-1 may be one of the important prognostic indicators for UM.

Chinese medicine prescriptions are a type of medical documents written by doctors after they understand the patients' conditions for syndrome differentiation. Chinese medicine prescriptions are also the basis for pharmacy personnel to dispense medicines and guide patients to use drugs. It has the legal, technical and economic significances. Chinese medicine prescriptions contain such information of names, quantity and usage. Whether the names of drugs in Chinese medicine prescriptions are standardized or not is directly related to the safety and efficacy of the drugs. At present, nonstandard clinical prescriptions are frequently seen. With "Chinese medicine prescription", "names of drug in Chinese medicine prescription" and "standards of Chinese medicine prescription" as key words, the author searched CNKI, Wanfang and other databases, and consulted nearly 100 literatures, so as to summarize current names of drugs in traditional Chinese medicine prescription, analyze the reasons, and give suggestions, in the expectation of standardizing the names of drugs used in traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions.
