BACKGROUND: Spicy food consumption has been reported to be inversely associated with mortality from multiple diseases. However, the effect of spicy food intake on the incidence of vascular diseases in the Chinese population remains unclear. This study was conducted to explore this association. METHODS: This study was performed using the large-scale China Kadoorie Biobank (CKB) prospective cohort of 486,335 participants. The primary outcomes were vascular disease, ischemic heart disease (IHD), major coronary events (MCEs), cerebrovascular disease, stroke, and non-stroke cerebrovascular disease. A Cox proportional hazards regression model was used to assess the association between spicy food consumption and incident vascular diseases. Subgroup analysis was also performed to evaluate the heterogeneity of the association between spicy food consumption and the risk of vascular disease stratified by several basic characteristics. In addition, the joint effects of spicy food consumption and the healthy lifestyle score on the risk of vascular disease were also evaluated, and sensitivity analyses were performed to assess the reliability of the association results. RESULTS: During a median follow-up time of 12.1 years, a total of 136,125 patients with vascular disease, 46,689 patients with IHD, 10,097 patients with MCEs, 80,114 patients with cerebrovascular disease, 56,726 patients with stroke, and 40,098 patients with non-stroke cerebrovascular disease were identified. Participants who consumed spicy food 1-2 days/week (hazard ratio [HR] = 0.95, 95% confidence interval [95% CI] = [0.93, 0.97], P <0.001), 3-5 days/week (HR = 0.96, 95% CI = [0.94, 0.99], P = 0.003), and 6-7 days/week (HR = 0.97, 95% CI = [0.95, 0.99], P = 0.002) had a significantly lower risk of vascular disease than those who consumed spicy food less than once a week ( Ptrend <0.001), especially in those who were younger and living in rural areas. Notably, the disease-based subgroup analysis indicated that the inverse associations remained in IHD ( Ptrend = 0.011) and MCEs ( Ptrend = 0.002) risk. Intriguingly, there was an interaction effect between spicy food consumption and the healthy lifestyle score on the risk of IHD ( Pinteraction = 0.037). CONCLUSIONS Our findings support an inverse association between spicy food consumption and vascular disease in the Chinese population, which may provide additional dietary guidance for the prevention of vascular diseases.

Objective:To conduct a comprehensive review on the current research status of postpartum follow-up for patients with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP), and provide a basis and guidance for the management of postpartum follow-up for HDP patients.Methods:Guided by the methodological framework of the scoping review, the literatures on postpartum follow-up of HDP patients in Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, China Biomedical Literature Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, VIP and Wanfang databases were retrieved, and search for relevant literature by the snowballing method. The search time range is from the establishment of the database to February 1, 2025. The included literature was analyzed and summarized.Results:A total of 32 literatures were included, including 31 in English and 1 in Chinese. The participation rate of postpartum follow-up for HDP patients is generally low, and the disease has a significant impact on long-term health. In addition, there is considerable variation in the content, format and time of follow-up. The follow-up content includes the patient's physical health status, long-term health risks and the availability of medical resources, etc.Conclusions:There are still deficiencies in the current implementation of postpartum follow-up for HDP patients. Existing follow-up studies lack high-quality randomized controlled trials as evidence support, and the influencing factors are complex and diverse. In the future, it is necessary to strengthen cooperation among multiple disciplines, closely integrate clinical guidelines with practical needs, and systematically evaluate the effectiveness of follow-up in clinical practice to enhance the scientific and effectiveness of follow-up and provide better health management support for HDP patients.

Objective To investigate the effects of citicoline sodium and Ureicrin on the expression of miR-17-5p and miR-29b in patients with ischemic stroke.Methods A total of 100 patients with ischemic stroke treated in the hospital were divided into control group and combination group by random table method.From February 2023 to February 2024,they were respectively given Eurecrine monotherapy and citicoline sodium and eurecrine combination therapy.Cerebral blood perfusion indexes,inflammatory factors,oxidative stress,miR-17-5p,miR-29b levels and clinical efficacy were detected in the two groups,and adverse reactions were statistically recorded.Results There was no significant difference in CBF,CBV,hs-CRP,miR-29b,IL-6,TNF-α and miR-17-5p between the two groups before treatment(P>0.05).After treatment,the levels of CBF,CBV,miR-29b,SOD and GSH-Px increased,while the levels of hs-CRP,IL-6,TNF-α,miR-17-5p and MDA decreased,and the levels of CBF,CBV,miR-29b,SOD and GSH-Px in the combined group were higher than those in the control group.The levels of hs-CRP,TNF-α,IL-6,miR-17-5p and MDA were significantly different from those of the control group(P<0.05).The incidence of adverse reactions and the total effective rate of treatment in combination group were higher than those in control group(P<0.05),and the adverse reactions were mild and tolerable.Conclusion The combination of citicoline sodium and Ureicrin can improve the clinical efficacy and prognosis of patients.

Objective:To detect the prevalence of mosaic loss of chromosome Y in adult men in ten study areas in China, describe the epidemiological distribution of mosaic loss of chromosome Y (mLOY) carriers and assess its prospective association with lung cancer.Methods:Based on the data from baseline survey, genetic analysis and follow-up (as of December 31, 2018) from China Kadoorie Biobank, we used Mosaic Chromosomal Alterations pipeline to detect mLOY carriers in 10 areas in China and described the epidemiological characteristics of mLOY carriers in adult men, including age, area distribution, lifestyle and disease history. We used multivariate logistic regression model to identify the potential relevant factor of mLOY. Cox proportional hazard regression model was fitted to assess the prospective association of mLOY with lung cancer. Stratification analysis were conducted to evaluate the potential modification effects of smoking and age. We also conducted mediation analysis to assess the mediating effect of mLOY in the association between smoking and lung cancer.Results:A total of 42 859 adult men were included in our analysis, in whom 2 458 mLOY carriers were detected (5.7%). The detection rate increased with age ( P<0.05). The detection rate was higher in urban area (7.3%±0.2%) than that in rural area (4.7%±0.1%). The results of logistic regression analysis indicated that smoking might be a risk factor for the detection of mLOY ( OR=1.49, 95% CI:1.36-1.64). After follow-up for average 11.1 years, 1 041 lung cancer cases were observed. The prospective analysis showed that mLOY carriers had an increased risk for lung cancer by 24% compared with non-mLOY carriers ( HR=1.24, 95% CI:1.01-1.52) and expanded mLOY carriers (mLOY cell proportion ≥10%) had an increased risk for lung cancer by 50% ( HR=1.50, 95% CI:1.13-2.00). Stratification analysis showed no modification effects of smoking and age in the association between mLOY and lung cancer (interaction P>0.05). Mediation analysis showed that mLOY could be a mediating factor in the association between smoking and lung cancer, the estimated effect was 0.09 (0.01-0.17). Conclusions:There were significant differences in the detection rate of mLOY in adult men with different social-economic characteristics and lifestyles in ten areas in China. Besides, mLOY carriers, especially expanded mLOY carriers, had increased risk for lung cancer and mLOY might be a mediating factor in the association between smoking and lung cancer.

Objective:To evaluate the associations of meeting intensive systolic blood pressure (SBP) control goals with risk for incident cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases among the adult hypertensive patients in China.Methods:We used data from adult hypertensive patients from the China Kadoorie Biobank. logistic regression models evaluated the influencing factors of meeting intensive and standard SBP control goals. Cox proportional hazard models evaluated the associations between meeting intensive vs. standard SBP control goals and risk for incident cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases.Results:A total of 3 628 hypertensive patients who reported continuous medication use were included in this study, of which 5.0% of the participants met the goals of intensive SBP control (≤130 mmHg). Participants with higher educational attainment ( OR=2.36,95% CI: 1.32-4.04), healthier diet ( OR=2.09,95% CI: 1.45-2.96), daily intake of fresh fruit ( OR=1.67,95% CI: 1.17-2.36) and combination treatment ( OR=1.82,95% CI: 1.03-3.09) were more likely to meet intensive SBP control goal after adjustment of age, sex and urban/rural areas. During an average follow-up of (10.0±3.7) years, 1 278 cases of composite cardiovascular outcome were recorded. This study did not find a statistical correlation between achieving the goal of enhanced SBP control and the occurrence of composite cardiovascular and cerebrovascular outcomes ( HR=0.89, 95% CI: 0.63-1.25). For major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE), cerebrovascular diseases, stroke, and ischemic stroke, we observed a trend of decrease in risk of outcomes with more intensive SBP control (trend test P<0.05). Conclusions:We observed decreased risk for MACE and cerebrovascular diseases with more intensive SBP control. However, there was no significant risk reduction for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases when meeting the intensive SBP control goal, compared to the standard SBP control goal.

Objective To study the correlationship between type Ⅰcollagenα1 (COL1A1) gene polymorphism and the occurrence of osteosarcoma. Methods Peripheral blood from 54 patients with osteosarcoma and 126 normal ones were collected, rs1061970 genotype of COL1A1 gene was amplified with PCR and products were analyzed by pyrosequencing among the samples. Results The allele frequency of TT (13.0%) and CT (48.1%) was significantly higher in pathologi-cal group than that in the normal control group, which manifested a allele frequency of TT(11.9%) and CT(30.2%) (P<0.05). Additionally, allele frequency of T in patients with osteosarcoma was 37.0%, higher than the control group (27.0%), with OR of 1.59 and 0.99-2.57 of 95%CI, with no difference of statistically significant (P>0.05), but the risk was still on the rise of osteosarcoma. Conclusion COL1A1 gene polymorphism may be related with the incidence of osteosarcoma, patients who carry the T allele of gene of COL1A1 may increase the risk of osteosarcoma occurrence.

OBJECTIVETo investigate the role of imatinib in induction therapy for newly diagnosed adult patients with Philadephia chromosome-positive acute lymphoblastic leukemia (Ph⁺ALL), as well as the status of allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) in the treatment of adult Ph⁺ ALL in imatinib era.

METHODSRetrospectively analyzed 97 newly diagnosed adult Ph⁺ ALL patients from 2005 to 2013. According to whether administrated imatinib in the induction therapy and the administrating duration (≥3 d) , they were divided into imatinib (n=37) and non-imatinib group (n=60), and the former group was further divided into early-use (n=26) and late-use imatinib groups (n=11) (bounded by the fourteenth day of induction chemotherapy). We compared the overall response rate (ORR) and the negative rate of BCR-ABL fusion gene in patients who achieved complete remission (CR) or CR with incomplete recovery of blood cells (CRi) among the three groups at the end of the first induction therapy. There were 44 cases underwent allo-HSCT (transplant group) and 33 cases only adopted imatinib-based chemotherapy (non-transplant group) in 77 patients who administrated imatinib as a maintenance therapy, we further compared the incidences of overall survival (OS) , disease-free survival (DFS), relapse and nonrelapse mortality (NRM) between the two groups; and dynamically monitor polymerase chain reaction (PCR) negativity of patients who were in CR1 state before transplant (n=34) at the following timepoints of achieving CR or CRi, the first consolidation therapy, beginning the pretreatment of transplant and attaining hematopoietic reconstruction after transplant.

RESULTSAfter the first induction therapy, the ORR of imatinib group was significantly higher than of non-imatinib group (97.3%, 72.9% respectively, P=0.002), but early-use and late-use imatinib groups had no statistical significance in ORR (100% , 90.9% respectively, P=0.297); the rate of negativity of imatinib and non- imatinib groups were 20.0% and 0 respectively (P=0.041) in patients who achieved CR or CRi. The negative rate of patients in CR1 state before transplant attained 20.8%, 42.3%, 51.8%, 76.8%, respectively at the previously described 4 timepoints. And the differences between the fourth and the third, the third and the first timepiont all reached statistical significance (P=0.044, 0.022, respectively). The 5-year OS of transplant and non- transplant groups showed statistical difference (47.0%, 28.0% respectively, P=0.016), also for 5-year DFS (P=0.001) and the cumulative rate of relapse (P=0.000) of the former surpassing the latter; the cumulative rate of NRM between these two groups had no statistical significance (P=0.370).

CONCLUSIONConventional induction chemotherapy in combination with imatinib in the first induction therapy of adult Ph⁺ ALL, not only improved the rate of hematologic remission, also the rate of molecular response. Imatinib used as a consolidation and maintenance therapy after remission, and allo-HSCT scheduled as soon as possible improved the prognosis.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the value of multi-slice CT angiography (MSCTA) in the diagnosis of super mesenteric artery (SMA) and super mesenteric vein (SMV), and discuss the 3D reconstruction method for detecting mesenteric vessel lesions. METHODS: Thirty-three patients suffering from mesenteric vessel diseases were analyzed. There were 14 SMA lesions, including 9 thromboses, 3 dissecting aneurysms, 1 pseudoaneurysm, and 1 malrotation. There were 19 SMV thromboses. The 3D reconstruction included volume rendering (VR), maximum intensity projection (MIP), and multi-planner reformation (MPR). RESULTS: The lesions appeared clear by MSCTA in the 33 patients. The SMA thrombosis was shown clear in the MIP in all 9 patients, and only 4 of them were detected in the VR. There was significant difference between MIP andVR in detecting SMA thrombosis (P=0.0294). Three dissecting aneurysms were best shown in the MPR; 1 pseudoaneurysm and 1 malrotation were clearly manifested in the VR. The thrombosis of SMV was clearly shown by both MIP and MPR in all 19 patients. Collateral vessels were clearly shown in the MIP in 12 patients; the collateral vessels were detected by VR only in 5, and the other 7 failed to show the collateral vessels. There was significant difference between the MIP and the VR in showing lateral collateral vessels (P=0.0046). CONCLUSION Both lesions of SMA and SMV can be detected by MSCTA. MIP is an ideal reconstruction method for SMA thrombosis and collateral vessels around the SMV.

Objective To accumulate operating experience and background data for housing mice in individually ventilated cages (IVC).Methods 5 weeks old Balb /c male mice(n =80) were allocated to 8 groups(n =10), which then housed in 5 or 10 per cage in 3 IVC systems(30,50 and 70 air changes /h, respectively) and one open-top cages (OTC) shelf for 8 weeks.Body weight was assessed at the initial date and every week .By the end of the experiment, necropsy was done and organs were separated and weighed .Excelland SPSS software statistics was made to draw the growth curve, and comparative analysis of body weight and organ coefficients was performed between the groups .Results 1.The growth curves of 5-mice per cage were better than that of 10-mice per cage.2.In the IVC groups, the curves trend and fluency of 50 air changes /h were more similar to that of 5-mice housed OTC group.3.The previously mentioned differences were statistically not significant (P >0.05).4.In the liver coefficients, there was a statistically significant difference between the 10-mice housed OTC group and 5-mice housed IVC group with 30 air changes /h(P <0.05), there wasn`t any other significant statistically difference with the organ coefficients between groups (P >0.05).Conclusions Based on the results of this study, the air change frequency on 50 times per hour and keeping 5 Balb/c mice per cage is recommended as the best condition for mouse housing in IVC .
