Abstract
To promote adolescents active participation in physical activity and improve sleep quality, the article analyzes the relationship of adolescent physical activity with subjective sleep satisfaction, sleep latency, sleep continuity, sleep efficiency, and sleep duration. It explores potential mechanisms underlying the link between physical activity and sleep quality, including physiological mechanisms (circadian rhythms, body temperature, neuroendocrine systems, and immune function), and psychological mechanisms (stress relief, improvement of negative emotions, and promotion of mental relaxation). Based on existing research, it is recommended that adolescents engage in moderate to vigorous physical activity daily to promote improved sleep quality.

Acute symptomatic osteoporotic thoracolumbar compression fracture (ASOTLF) can lead to chronic low back pain, kyphosis deformity, pulmonary dysfunction, loss of mobility, and even life-threatening complications. Vertebral augmentation is currently the mainstream treatment method for this condition. In 2019, the Editorial Board of Chinese Journal of Trauma and the Spinal Trauma Group of Orthopedic Surgeons Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association collaboratively led the development of Clinical guideline for vertebral augmentation for acute symptomatic osteoporotic thoracolumbar compression fractures. Six years later, with advances in clinical diagnosis and treatment techniques as well as accumulating evidence in related fields, the 2019 guideline requires updating. To this end, the Spinal Trauma Group of Orthopedic Surgeons Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, the Spinal Health Professional Committee of China Human Health Science and Technology Promotion Association, and the Minimally Invasive Orthopedics Professional Committee of Shaanxi Medical Doctor Association have organized experts in the field to develop the Clinical guideline for vertebral augmentation of acute symptomatic osteoporotic thoracolumbar compression fractures ( version 2025) , based on the latest evidence-based medical researches. This guideline incorporates 3 recommendations retained from the 2019 version with updated strength of evidence, along with 12 new recommendations. It provides recommendations from six aspects of diagnosis, pain management, treatment option selection, prevention of postoperative complications, anti-osteoporosis therapy, and postoperative rehabilitation, aiming to provide a reference for standard treatment of vertebral augmentation for ASOTLF in hospitals at all levels.

Background:Optimizing cultivation techniques for traditional Chinese medicine has become a crucial means to improve the quality of medicinal materials.Microbial agents,as environmentally friendly and efficient plant growth promoters and soil conditioners, have increasingly attracted attention in eco-agriculture research. Objective:Our understanding remains limited regarding how the application of microbial agents, alone or in combination, affects changes in the rhizosphere microbiome and its association with the bioactive components of medicinal materials. Methods:In this study,Epimedium pubescens Maxim.was employed as a model plant to examine the effects of 2 microbial agents(Paenibacillus mucilaginosus and Bacillus subtilis)applied individually and in combination on plant growth and the accumulation of bioactive components.Additionally, this study explored the relationship between the rhizosphere microbiome and plant development. Results:The application of microbial agents increased the yield of E.pubescens leaves by 20.30%to 33.66%and enhanced the total flavonol glycosides content by 11.40%to 29.94%.Meanwhile,microbial treatments reshaped the rhizosphere microbiome, promoted the enrichment of beneficial microorganisms(e.g.,Frankia and Paenibacillus),suppressed phytopathogenic fungi such as Didymella and Scytalidium, and enhanced the stability of the soil microbial co-occurrence network. The partial least squares path model suggested that microbial agents not only directly impact the quality of medicinal herbs but also indirectly alter the accumula-tion of bioactive components by modulating the soil microbiome. Conclusion:These findings deepen our understanding of the relationship between medicinal plant quality and rhizosphere micro-biomes as mediated by microbial agents. They also provide a basis for designing and manipulating synthetic microbial communities to promote sustainable development in eco-agriculture.

The xylitol dehydrogenase(XDH)is a crucial enzyme involved in the xylose utilization in pentose-catabolizing yeasts and fungi. In addition to producing xylulose,XDH can also be employed to develop a biosensor for monitoring xylitol concentration. In this study, the gene encoding the thermophilic fungus Talaromyces emersonii XDH(TeXDH)was heterologously expressed in Escherichia coli BL21(DE3)at 16 ℃ in the soluble form.Recombinant TeXDH with high purity was purified by using a Ni-NTA affinity column.Size-exclusion chromatography and SDS-PAGE analysis demonstrated that the puri-fied recombinant TeXDH exists as a native trimer with a molecular mass of approximately 116 kD,and is composed of three identical subunits, each with a molecular weight of around 39 kD.The TeXDH strictly preferred NAD+as a coenzyme to NADP+.The optimal temperature and pH of the TeXDH were 40 ℃and 10.0,respectively.After EDTA treatment, the enzyme activity of TeXDH decreased to 43.26%of the initial enzyme activity, while the divalent metal ions Mg2+or Ca2+could recover the enzyme activity of TeXDH,reaching 103.32%and 110.69%of the initial enzyme activity, respectively, making them the optimal divalent metal ion cofactors for TeXDH enzyme. However, the divalent metal ions of Mn2+,Ni2+,Cu2+,Zn2+,Co2+,and Cd2+significantly inhibited the activity of TeXDH.ICP-MS and molecular doc-king studies revealed that 1 mol/L of TeXDH bound 2 mol/L Zn2+ions and 1 mol/L Mg2+ion.Further-more,TeXDH exhibited a high specificity for xylitol, laying the foundation for the development of future xylitol biosensors.

Objective:To evaluate the clinical efficacy of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) combined with sodium hyaluronate solution for facial microdroplet injection in improving facial skin photoaging. Methods:A prospective randomized controlled trial was conducted. From January to July 2024, patients with facial photoaging problems were recruited from the Plastic Surgery Department of the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University and randomly divided into a monotherapy group (sodium hyaluronate solution droplet injection) and a combination therapy group (BTX-A + sodium hyaluronate solution droplet injection) by hierarchical block randomization method. The treatment regimen was 3 months, with one treatment for each month, with a total of 3 treatment. The combination therapy group only used a combination therapy of two drugs (BTX-A 25 U+ 5 ml sodium hyaluronate solution) during the first injection. During the three treatments of the monotherapy group and the second and third treatments of the combination therapy group, 5 ml of sodium hyaluronate solution was injected as the solo ingredient. Follow up was conducted at 1, 2, and 4 months after the last treatment. Serum superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels were detected by test kit. Five skin texture indicators (moisture content, transepidermal water loss rate, elasticity, glossiness, and pH) were evaluated using the German CK skin tester. VISIA skin detector was used for facial two-dimensional photography and skin condition analysis. Clinical efficacy (significant improvement, obvious improvement, improvement, no improvement) and global aesthetic improvement scale (GAIS) scores on a 5-point scale were recorded. Patient satisfaction levels (very satisfied, satisfied, and dissatisfied) were investigated. The data were analyzed using SPSS 27.0 software. Count data was presented as examples and(or) percentages, and analyzed using a chi-square test. Normal distribution measurement data was represented by Mean±SD and analyzed using t-test. Results:A total of 100 patients were included, with 50 cases in each group. There were 17 males and 33 females in the monotherapy group, with an age of (31.3±7.1) years, and there were 5, 14, 29 and 2 patients in the Ⅰ to Ⅳ types of Glogau skin photoaging classification, respectively. There were 15 males and 35 females in the combination therapy group, with an age of (32.1±8.4) years old, and there were 4, 15, 27 and 4 patients in the Ⅰ to Ⅳ types of Glogau skin photoaging classification, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference in gender composition, age, and Glogau skin photoaging classification between the two groups (all P>0.05). One month after the first treatment, both groups showed an increase in SOD activity and a decrease in MDA levels, with more significant changes observed in the combination therapy group ( P<0.01 for both). At the follow-up of 1, 2, and 4 months after the last treatment, the combination therapy group outperformed the monotherapy group in all 5 skin texture indicators (all P<0.05). One month after the last treatment, the total effective rate of the combination therapy group was 76.0% (38/50), which were significantly higher than that of the monotherapy group’s 50.0% (25/50) ( P<0.05); in addition, the combination therapy group showed significant advantages in facial aesthetic GAIS scores, as well as patient satisfaction, with a satisfaction rate of up to 98.0% (49/50), which was higher than the 88.0% (44/50) of the monotherapy group ( P<0.01). Throughout the entire treatment process, neither group experienced serious adverse reactions. Conclusion:Facial microdroplet injection of BTX-A combined with sodium hyaluronate solution effectively improves symptoms of facial skin photoaging, enhancing skin hydration and elasticity, reducing transepidermal water loss, improving skin gloss, regulating skin pH, and enhancing skin antioxidant capacity, ultimately achieving facial skin rejuvenation. This method is safe, effective and holds high clinical relevence and patient satisfaction.

This study explores the mechanism of Guben Jiannao Liquid on Alzheimer's disease(AD) by regulating autophagy based on the liver kinase B1(LKB1)/adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase(AMPK)/mammalian target of rapamycin(mTOR) pathway. Male SD rats were randomly divided into the blank group, model group, low-dose and high-dose groups of Guben Jiannao Liquid, and rapamycin group, with 10 rats in each group. Except for the blank group, all other groups of rats were injected bilaterally in the hippocampus with β-amyloid(Aβ)_(1-42) to establish the AD model. The low-dose(6.21 g·kg~(-1)) and high-dose(12.42 g·kg~(-1)) groups of Guben Jiannao Liquid and rapamycin group(1 mg·kg~(-1)) were given the corresponding drugs by gavage, and the blank and model groups were given an equal volume of saline by gavage for four weeks. Morris water maze was used to test the learning and memory ability of rats in each group; hematoxylin-eosin(HE) and Nissl staining were used to observe the morphological and quantitative changes of neurons and Nissl bodies in the CA1 region of rat hippocampus; immunohistochemistry was utilized to detect Aβ-positive cell expression in the CA1 region of rat hippocampus; transmission electron microscopy was employed to observe ultrastructural changes in rat hippocampal tissue, and Western blot was used to examine the protein expression levels of LKB1, p-AMPK/AMPK, p-mTOR/mTOR, Beclin1, p62, and LC3-Ⅱ in the hippocampal tissue of the rats. The results showed that compared with those in the blank group, rats in the model group had elevated evasion latency and decreased number of platform transversal and residence time in the platform quadrant. The number of neurons in the hippocampal area was reduced, and the morphology was impaired. The average integral optical density value of Aβ-positive cells was elevated; the expression levels of LKB1, p-AMPK/AMPK, Beclin1, and LC3-Ⅱ were decreased, and the expression levels of p-mTOR/mTOR and p62 were increased. Compared with those in the model group, rats in the low-dose and high-dose groups of Guben Jiannao Liquid had shorter evasion latency, higher number of platform transversal, longer residence time in the platform quadrant, increased number of neurons, decreased expression of Aβ-positive cells and average integral optical density values, and increased number of autophagic lysosomes in hippocampal tissue. The expression levels of LKB1, Beclin1, and LC3-Ⅱ were elevated in the hippocampus of rats in the low-dose group of Guben Jiannao Liquid. The expression levels of LKB1, p-AMPK/AMPK, Beclin1, and LC3-Ⅱ were elevated in the hippocampal tissue of rats in the high-dose group of Guben Jiannao Liquid, and the expression levels of p-mTOR/mTOR and p62 were decreased. The findings suggest that Guben Jiannao Liquid can improve cognitive impairment in AD rats, and its mechanism of action may be related to the activation of the LKB1/AMPK/mTOR signaling pathway and the up-regulation of autophagy level.

China Journal of Chinese Materia Medica 2025;50(8):2041-2049
Ischemic stroke(IS) is a complex pathological process involving multiple cellular and molecular mechanisms and it is characterized by high mortality, high disability, and high recurrence. In recent years, the incidence of IS in China has been increasing year by year, and it has a trend of occurring in increasingly young individuals. Herb pairs are the smallest unit of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM) compatibility and an important part of TCM compounding, and the research on them is of great significance in guiding the clinical medication. Pharmacological studies have confirmed that certain herb pairs can exert anti-ischemic effects through various pathways such as reducing inflammation, alleviating oxidative stress, protecting the nervous system, and promoting neovascularization. By reviewing the relevant articles in the past decade, this paper probes into the combination rules, modern experimental studies, and combination ratios of the commonly used herb pairs from the etiology and pathogenesis of IS and summarizes 18 commonly used and deeply studied herb pairs, with a view to providing reference for the application, research, and development of clinical medicines.
