Gastric cancer has high incidence and mortality rate. Chemotherapy is the first-line treatment for gastric cancer and has achieved considerable success. However, due to genetic variations and tumor heterogeneity, the effectiveness of chemothrapy drugs varies among different patients. Therefore, accurate assessment of patient’s sensitivity to chemotherapy drugs is crucial for personalized treatment. Gastric cancer organoids serve as effective tools for predicting patient’s sensitivity to chemotherapy drugs. This review summarizes the applications and related research progress of gastric cancer organoids in determining chemotherapy drug sensitivity, discusses the strengths and limitations of organoid models, and proposes outlooks for future research directions, hoping that organoids can provide more effective personalized treatment options and a greater range of drug choices for gastric cancer treatment.

Objective To investigate the levels of gross α and gross β activities in different water types within a 40-kilometer radius around the Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Plant prior to its operation. Methods In 2018, drinking water samples were collected from the area surrounding the nuclear power plant during both the wet and dry seasons, including source water, treated water, tap water, and well water. The gross α and gross β activity concentrations were measured using a low-background α/β counter, followed by statistical analysis. Results A total of 80 water samples from different sources around the Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Plant were collected. The average gross α and gross β activity concentrations during the wet season were (0.110 ± 0.036) Bq/L and (0.643 ± 0.028) Bq/L, respectively, while those during the dry season were (0.124 ± 0.032) Bq/L and (0.624 ± 0.026) Bq/L, respectively. There were no significant differences in the gross α and gross β activity concentrations between the wet and dry seasons for the overall sample set (P > 0.05). However, there were statistically significant differences in the gross α and gross β activity concentrations between the wet and dry seasons for source water and well water (Zwet = −2.005, −2.123; Zdry = −1.943, −3.090; P < 0.05). Conclusion The radioactivity levels in different water types within various ranges around the Zhangzhou Nuclear Power Plant before its operation were determined. The measured activity concentrations were at the same level as those from previous investigations in other regions of Fujian Province.

Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus is the dried bulb of perennial herbaceous plants in the Fritillaria genus(Liliaceae family) and is a representative traditional Chinese medicinal material with distinctive regional characteristics. Clinically, it is widely used in the treatment of dry cough, bronchial asthma, and other respiratory diseases, possessing significant medicinal and economic value and being highly esteemed in TCM. Currently, Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus primarily relies on wild harvesting. However, due to excessive collection, its wild resources have drastically declined, and all source species have been classified as category Ⅱ in the List of National Key Protected Wild Plants, exacerbating the supply-demand imbalance in the market. To mitigate this issue, large-scale cultivation through the domestication of wild Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus has become an inevitable trend. However, its strict environmental requirements, low propagation efficiency, high seedling mortality, and immature cultivation techniques have severely hindered industrialization. This study investigates the domestication process of Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus, focusing on seed propagation, seedling cultivation, and medicinal material production. It also reviews the species and distribution of wild resources, their endangered status, market supply-demand dynamics, and the historical and current development of domestication. The findings indicate that enhancing propagation efficiency, optimizing cultivation models, and distinguishing between seed propagation and medicinal material production are key measures to accelerate the industrialization of domesticated Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus. This research aims to promote the industrialization of Fritillariae Cirrhosae Bulbus domestication and provide a reference model for the conservation and sustainable utilization of rare and endangered medicinal plant resources.

Methods A total of 23 villages in 8 counties (districts) along the Jiulong River, Zhangjiang River, and Dongxi River basins in Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province were selected as survey sites during the period from November 2020 through March 2023, and snail and freshwater crabs were sampled from 1 to 3 streams and ditches neighboring residential areas in each village. Morphological identification of snails was performed according to the external morphological characteristics of collected snail shells, and the unidentified snail species sampled from the natural foci of paragonimiasis in Yunxiao County were subjected to se-quence analysis of the mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase 1 (CO1) gene. The crab species was identified by observing the morphological characteristics of the terminal segment of the first pleopod of male crabs, and Paragonimus cercariae and metacercariae were detected in collected snails. Results The shells of the unidentified snails sampled from the natural foci of paragonimiasis in Yunxiao County were approximately 50 mm in height and 18 mm in width, thick and solid, long tower cone-shaped, and had 8 to 10 whorls. CO1 gene sequence analysis identified the snail species as Sulcospira hainanensis. A total of 6 freshwater snail species belonging to 5 genera within 3 families, identified 23 survey sites, including Semisulcospira libertina, Paludomus zhangchouensis and S. hainanensis that belonged to the Family Pleurceridae, Tricula fujianensis and T. huaanensis that belonged to the subfamily Triculinae, Family Pomatiopsidae, and Melanoides tuberculata (Family Thiaridae), and 11 species of freshwater crabs belonging to 5 genera within 2 families were identified, including Sinopotamon genus of S. jianglense, S. pinheense, and S. zhangzhouense, Huananpotamon genus of H. planopodum and H. zhangzhouense, Nanhaipotamon genus of N. huaanense and N. longhaiense, and Minpotamon genus of M. nasicum and M. auritum that belonged to the Family Potamidae, and Somanniathelphusa genus of S. huaanensis and S. zhangpuensis (Family Parathelphusidae). In addition, the prevalence of P. westermani cercariae infections was 0.08% (2/2 317) in P. zhangchouensis from Danyan Village in Changtai District and 0.09% (1/1 039) in S. hainanensis from Jinkeng Village in Yunxiao County, and the prevalence of P. westermani metacercariae infections was 25.81% (8/31) in S. jianglense from Danyan Village in Changtai District, and 26.31% (5/19) in S. zhangzhouense from Jinkeng Village in Yunxiao County, respectively. Conclusions There is a population diversity in the intermediate host snails and crabs along the Jiulongjiang River, Zhangjiang River, and Dongxi River basins in Bopingling Mountain, southern Fujian Province, and P. zhangzhouensis and S. hainanensis are, for the first time, confirmed as the first intermediate hosts of P. westermani.

Objective To explore risk factors of poor early prognosis in the treatment of COVID-19 by nematevir and ritonavir tablets Paxlovid and establish the prediction model to provide reference for improving the effect of such patients. Methods 92 inpatients of COVID-19 treated with Paxlovid in three military tertiary hospital in southern Fujian from January 2023 to March 2023 were retrospectively analyzed. The clinical indicators of 92 inpatients were collected for univariate and multivariate analysis by single factor and multiple factors and the independent risk factors of poor early prognosis in Paxlovid were screened out. Logistic model equation was transformed to construct the combined predictors, and ROC curve was used to determine the area under the curve (AUC) and the optimal critical value of the combined predictors. Results Among 92 patients, 31 (33.70%) developed poor early prognosis, including 11 deaths (35.48%), 17 critical cases (54.84%) and 3 severe cases (9.68%). Multi-factor Logistic regression analysis showed that the disease days, lymphocyte count, aspartate aminotransferase(AST), C reactive protein(CRP) and ventilator-assisted ventilation were independent risk factors for poor early prognosis in Paxlovid. A formula for calculating the combined predictors (Y) was established as Ycombinedpredictors=7.875Xdisease days+126.188Xlymphocyte count+1.438XAST+XCRP+220.500Xventilator-assisted ventilation based on the above independent risk factors, and the ROC curve was drawn. With the maximum area under the ROC curve of the combined predictors being 0.939, the prediction value was best, and the optimal critical value of the ROC curve corresponding to the maximum Youden index (0.756) was 447.920.Theoretical accuracy of the model was 89.10%. Conclusion The disease days, lymphocyte count, AST, CRP and ventilator-assisted ventilation were independent risk factors for poor early prognosis in Paxlovid. Combined predictors could be calculated by the above risk factors before medication. The efficiency should be improved by taking more active treatment, including combining with other anti-COVID-19 drugs when the prediction result exceeds 447.920.
